Per Sampson

sounds like Welch, Wood and Hendrix may follow

I like this move for Hendrix. Miami is an excellent school and has connections to some quality med schools. Good for them.

One of the kids I played with in high school played RB at Miami a few years ago. Seemed to really like it. Miami is a fun school with some smoking sorority girls. Think tailgating in the grove kinda ladies.

If I remember correctly, wasn't he caught bending the rules while HC?

Yeah, if playing in an office NCAA tourney pool is bending the rules (which, ya know, it actually is according to the NCAA because they are assholes), then yes he bent the rules. I'm bothered 0% by that, but I don't want him near ND because I don't think he's much of a football coach.

Kind of reminds me of Funkhouser.

Three top 8 finishes in his 8 combined years at Colorado and Washington. Why don't you think much of him? Seems like a pretty solid offensive mind.

That said, I'd be shocked if he was actually being considered.

Miami is a pretentious, elitist bastion of greek life masquerading as "Ohio's Public Ivy".

But it makes sense for the Cincy boys. They will not be far from home at all (about an hour's drive).

If you know anything about greek life in the South, you proved my point.

And that sounds pretty fun

I recall that that's true, now that you mention it ... I had a classmate who was accepted to Miami undergrad with guaranteed admission to University of Cincinnati med school. Don't know how far the connection extends but I assume there is something there that Hendrix can take advantage of.

Wow, Wood too? That one kind of surprises me. Thought he'd go closer to home. But having a readymade relationship with the head coach has got to help. Martin was a defensive coach for Wood's first two years, right?

He's 100% correct. Case-Western and Ohio State are definitely the two best schools in Ohio (not taking into account small schools like Kenyon, Oberlin, Denison, etc).

Miami is a joke that gets off on pretending to be something it's not. But make no mistake about it, boatloads of smokin' hot women roam the halls there looking for their babydaddy to pay for their every need.

It's where you go if you come from money, don't get into Ohio State, and think Ohio U is too Appalachian.

He earned his nickname, "Slick Rick", the old fashion way, cheating. His recruiting violations at Colorado cost 5 scholarships and two years probation.

At UW his players sent records ... for arrests.

He was a loser a UCLA.

I was familiar with the NCAA pool thing, but I thought he had some more serious issues. Thanks for digging that up. You are correct, he bombed at UCLA.

As someone who has actively recruited from colleges in Ohio, I disagree with a few portions of this.

From a business school standpoint, Miami offers up better applicants than OSU on a regular basis. BusinessWeek rates Miami better as well. Undergraduate Business School Rankings - 2013

My personal findings with Miami kids comes from two points. First, Miami focuses mostly on undergraduate studies and access to professors, which provides a better overall learning experience. Additionally, since the school is much smaller, they are better at job placement. The kids we interview are by and large more prepared and have a better understanding of what life is like outside of school. To be clear, I am hiring for positions in accounting, finance, economics and marketing.

(A link from US News and Reports discussing which schools "teach" the best for undergraduates Best Undergraduate Teaching | Rankings | Top National Universities | US News)

The second point that sways me is that OSU does a terrible job of graduating students in a timely manner. From the stats I have from recruiting, OSU graduates students in 4 years just 41% of the time compared to Miami's 71%.

In summary, I think you are greatly exaggerating the differences between the two universities. I understand your connection with OSU and appreciate that you are in a different program than business school. However, both offer up very good opportunities. I think OSU offers a wider variety of programs which is appealing, but Miami's focus on the undergraduate more than makes up for it. What is most important though, is the eye candy and Miami wins in a landslide there.

While I hire engineers for the most part, and Ohio State and Miami aren't in my pool for the most part, my general experience as relates to big school vs. small school graduates is the same. The investment in real world preparation and placement is pretty pronounced, unless we are talking very specialized areas where certain professors have the ability to place all their kids due to their grant pipelines...

I know he's taken Bill Brechin from GVSU with him. He was the WR coach at GVSU, so I assume the same capacity there?

I work with Bill's sister-in-law.

It is a five year contract, 450k a year. A slight raise over what Miami gave Treadwell.

I'm only posting from memory, but pretty sure It was 1.5 mill a yr? ND assistant's have to be pulling in 450k a year? I'd like to think!
