McKenzie said himself he is waiting till he takes all his officials to commit. He has yet to put himself in a position for ND to accept his commitment, so him committing at the usc game is really interesting. Unless something changed from when Wiltfong talked to him and last night, I will tend to believe itll be Dec before he makes any kind of decision. And according to a report tonight saying he was taking the ACT, i hope to God that he got the ACT and SAT confused bc if he is infact taking the ACT then his destination will somewhere other than South Bend.

Que?

ND doesn't accept ACT scores?

I don't know how most places do it, but all of the schools I applied to only required the ACT. I never took the SAT.

He needs the SAT from what I was told by a pretty good person in the know.

Hmmm...That's pretty odd. Have no idea why that would be the case.

Regardless, taking the ACT doesn't mean he isn't also taking the SAT. I took both. He may just be keeping his options open because other schools may require an ACT.

For the record.

Should I take the ACT or SAT?
We will accept either the SAT or the ACT at Notre Dame. We do not have a preference for either test. We suggest to our applicants to take the SAT or the ACT test at least twice because we tend to see a jump in the score, especially between the Spring of junior year and the Fall of senior year. Students will often take both the SAT and the ACT to see if they can score higher. Please submit all scores, SAT and ACT, to Notre Dame for review. We will take your best composite score for the ACT. For the SAT we will take the highest individual scores for each of the three sections: critical reading, math, and writing. These three best scores will make up your highest individual SAT score.

TP, what is the disconnect here? Why are some very confident and others are saying no chance?

I'm still confused. Will he get his grade too late? I know for a fact ND accepts ACT scores.

How? ND accepts the ACT. I know tons of kids who didn't take the SAT.

That makes no sense. Both tests are considered acceptable by any university including ND. It should make no difference which test he takes.

Hmmm...That's pretty odd. Have no idea why that would be the case.

Regardless, taking the ACT doesn't mean he isn't also taking the SAT. I took both. He may just be keeping his options open because other schools may require an ACT.

He needs the SAT from what I was told by a pretty good person in the know.

There were football players getting admitted having only taken an ACT as far back as the Holtz years.

I understand somebody saying, "He still needs a qualifying test score" but not specifying a specific test.

Have Monk and Beauchamp staged a coup?

Aaron Lynch comes to mind. If I remember correctly he didn't have a great score either. It was something like a 18 or a 21 in the ACT.

Lower...much lower if I recall.

Keep in mind that ND uses a sliding scale so:

Lower ACT/SAT score = you must have a higher GPA
Higher ACT/SAT score = you have more leeway with GPA

Something I thought about last night while with regards to McKenzie needing to take the SAT vs. the ACT is that there is no "Science" portion of the SAT (at least as of a few years ago). That's often the section that separates the men from the boys. Maybe that section has kicked his *** and almost guarantees it'll bring his score down too low for ND to accept him? That's the only explanation I can come up with as to why he needs the SAT and not the ACT.

Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give you a topic...

was on power hour yesterday.

Thinks he should be a 5:s: but says it is due to his height.

Thinks he is done growing.

Sees himself as more of a Tavon Austin style player.

Said that his favorite thing about his visit to Notre Dame was that everything was what it should be, it was great, the people were great, and he felt comfortable around the coaches.

Says he is close to getting is qualifications for ND wrapped up.

Said he wants to take his official visits then later says no other visits set up but wants to take visits to Rutgers and Kentucky (probably in December)

On what he wants to see on his official- wants to see if we win and the game day atmosphere.

Looking for comfortable with environment and how he will be used in offense.

ND still leader.

Decision "probably in December."

Something tells me that even if he wants to wait until December, he will commit at USC game. He seems like an emotional, impressionable kid and he loves ND and already knows what it's about.

That scale is lowered for athletes... The minimum requirement for Harvard (on a hockey scholarship) was 3.0 + 1200 SAT Reading + Writing when I was around. I imagine that ND goes even lower than that for football.

Anyways, hope he gets in...

Yes. I just left off that it was lower for athletes. I guess I assumed it was implied. But thanks for clearing that up.

I thought the science section on the ACT was the easiest part of the test lol. Most of it was just reading graphs and being able to take the information from them; I didn't think it required much actual "science" knowledge at all.

When ol' Bugerino took the ACT for the first time, it was the day after the Senior Party. I hadn't slept and was still drunk. I fell asleep during the test and didn't finish d@mn near a third of it.

I scored a 25 still though... werd.

Per TJ, ND has asked that he hold off on making an announcement until he gets a satisfactory test score. He hasn't taken the test yet but as you know will be doing so soon. Not sure that it will all be in order by his USC visit and that will be discussed with him though.

If he can't get things worked out with ND admissions, I think WVU is where he ends up.

Probably why he threw it down. It still blows my mind he doesn't even start for his own high school team and maybe the 5th best player on his team. I know a lot of people are excited about this kid, but he is BALLIN this year.

Throwing him on short routes all day long. He's so explosive in the open field. Small + quick + elusive can mean hard to tackle sometimes.

Hard to tackle most of the time.
