Gunner is the most likely IMO.

Why? Seems weird that he would choose a school based on distance from home, then want to leave after only a year.

Not that I think Hendrix is any more likely to transfer. He will stay for his degree.

Gunner doesn't have the chest to transfer.

If Tommy ends up in jail, I doubt we honor his scholarship.

Hendrix has one more year to get his degree.

If Golson gets the nod for the next few years, Gunner would only have 2 years to be the starter if he comes back for a 5th year. I don't think he will, but he would be 'most likely' for that reason.

We will have this qb dilemma until
1. Rees and hendrix graduate
2. Golson figuresmit out
3. Kiel steps in and becomes the man
4. Zaire shocks all of us and leap frogs everyone and kiel, and golson transfer

I personally feel we ride this issue out until rees and hendrix graduate. Kiel will certainly have his fair shot to start next year. We will see but either way kelly will find and play a winner that will be a nd icon with all of our talent.

I think we'll take 3 more. Dream Scenario would be Hawkins, Redfield, and Muhammad. We'll see.

That would be really nice! Ok so hypothetical, if the above 3 do decide for us and Alexander says damn that looks really nice come signing day, do you think Kelly finds room for him? I gotta think he does. Thoughts?

It kills me to say this but I don't see how we'd have room for him in that hypothetical. The more I think about it the more I think there is just no way we can take fewer than 4 5th-years.

No way we don't leave a scholarship for AM.

This Hawkins/Redfield stuff seems almost too good to be true but its welcomed.

Rack Em nailed it. This isn't the SEC.

Well... Roberson could play... he was even practicing... but he couldn't play at a "high enough" level and went on medical. I don't think it's much of a stretch.

Their will be at least one transfer or medical. It happens every year don't see why that would change this year. I don't have a clue who it will be, but that leaves us four spots left

With as much as we heard about AQM last week I was thinking we'd hear more about him this week, so we'll see. However I know some people don't believe in the silent verbals but I think he could be one. A lot of people that r in the know were pretty confident that he was ready to committ last week.

That's a good point! There was a lot of noise just a few days ago so he could very well be. Definitely want him in this class!

You should know better than to think you can read the QB tea leaves so far in advance. Furthermore, you are writing off a #1 overall QB recruit because we currently have a redshirt freshman starting? Maybe you haven't noticed, but Everett isn't even playing well. Kiel will get an opportunity at ND at some point through injury, backup duty or simply beating out the other QB's in the inevitable future QB competition. Writing him off under such unfounded hypothetical is silly.

Fact: Gunner sticks it out at least one more year. You dont transfer bc you redshirt your freshman year. Next year he could be one play away from playing. He can look at options 3rd year.

Fact: ND is at a scholly crunch

Fact: ND is playing it perfect. Giving Hawkins the ball in his court is a beautiful way to play it. Either way they get a read on him and can go from there. If he brings his family....Hes irish. ND already sold his family on the class of the program and deepened the relationship.

Fact: The only players kicking a 5th year out are Redfield, Mackensie, Willis, Treadwell.

Examples:
1.Hawkins commits tomorrow...They still go after MacKensie/Willis

2. Mackensie/Willis commit tomorrow...CB is done. You still recruit Hawkins/Moore but they know the writing on the wall.

Then you still have room for Best Available. aka Treadwell/Willis...if not...shut it down.

Fact: Timing is everything, and you know the staff isnt going to pressure any kid....but the kids they are recruiting are kids that 1. Are committed elsewhere
2. Elite talent
3. Icing on the cake to a great class already.
4. You dont get the kid it sucks, but not going to cripple the class.

Fact: Theres a scenario where they can get 4...but like as previously mentioned it will take transfers/medical/5th years and the right players. You dont mess with 5th years bc they are too valuable. The 5th year kids that arent going to be there next year have already been factored in ... then theres kids on the edge that if that right combo arises ... you got that degree and thanks for 4 good years. But it will also create depth problems if they are careful. Tausch...you need...Brindza cant be the only kicker on the roster. Carlo you will need for leadership with 5 frosh arriving and has gotten better.

Is it true we likely don't have any room for A. Muhammad? I wonder if our staff regrets any of the early commitments they took... I'd assume not, but there sure are some studs out there I think they wish they had room for one way or another. They sure do look smart though the way they held off on Tre Bell, etc.

It's funniest to me because this is likely what last year's class was intended to do... but we didn't win games.

Yep. There was a few days last January where people on here were seriously talking about not giving a fifth year to KLM, because of a perceived scholarship crunch and the potential to land two Armstead brothers. Today, that seems ridiculous.
Kids get hurt. They have weird heart conditions. They transfer for their girlfriend. They decommit to play for The Home State U or because we don't have "a good enough track program." They make stupid last-minute decisions to go to Houston. Or maybe it turns out they never actually qualified academically to play college football. **** happens.
So I guess you think long and hard, and let the string play out, before you bump veteran starters, who've won big tough games, for unproven high school kids. I agree it's a delicate balance, and I don't want us to get in an oversigning situation and I do want us to upgrade our talent level. But sometimes the bird in hand is worth keeping for another year.

Hang tight there big dog. I'm not writing him off. I was giving a hypothetical for why 1 of our QBs MIGHT leave. I honestly don't believe Kiel's going anywhere. All I was saying is that I could understand why he would be frustrated if Golson is a 4 year starter...nothing more.
