Would USC take Vanderdoes, Bigelow and Robinson at DT?

Orrrrr does that say something about their confidence in keeping Eddie??

Interesting developments on the #recruiting front. #NDTrain

So if I am understanding the most recent posts here, TP's tweet above has nothing to do with Sythe's decommit, as it appears he is not decommiting to get on the "NDTrain"?

He would not be getting on the train even if he wanted to

It isn't the flashy name, but if there is a spot at the end of the year I am for it. He runs solid routes and catches well in traffic.

How has Welch's recovery/rehab been? Maybe there is a reason the staff is reaching out to Durham.

Christian confirmed that it is Smythe.

Interesting and surprising. Danny Mattingly replacement? I watched a short video of junior highlights, but no defensive highlights; just TE.

I did think his tape was impressive. I've been saying for months that I think we could use a second TE in this class, with all the 2 tight end stuff we did this year.

With a limited spots we have. I really, really don't want to use it on a tight end that wont sniff the field until he is a Junior

There has not yet been official word if Smythe is no longer considering Texas, or if he's just decommitting to explore his options. However, the rumor is that Smythe is done with Texas and won't be heading to Austin. Stanford and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been mentioned as strong possibilities.

Smythe is a huge loss in the class, as Texas has been searching for a reliable tight end that can both block effectively and be an asset in the passing game. Smythe is considered an above-average pass catcher, and the hope was that he would be able to blossom into a good blocking end as he developed at Texas. As for now, it's back to the drawing board for the Longhorns.

Let me guess, you called Russell starting at corner and Neal getting virutally no P.T. other than punt return too?

Yeah I'm pretty sure he had that, along with being the only one who wanted Goodman to get a 5th year.

Great point ... I have heard nothing about Welch at all. For all I know he's the one going on medical schollie (not saying I've even heard rumors to that effect; just saying we don't know what his condition is).

No, I thought he was a great get but I had no idea where he would play. We are drowning in talent at TE especially with with surprising play by Niklas, I just don't see him playing for a couple years if he did come here. I would much rather take Hollins who could be in the rotation by the time he is a sophomore

Disagree. Koyak has shown nothing, Niklas has a ways to go before he is a complete TE, and Heuerman is a complete unknown, plus who know what Welch's status is.

I can't imagine that we'd be lucky enough to get Robinson, but he does seem to be looking around. Apparently he buddied up with Su'a Cravens at USC and was really liking the trip. He also showed in his early fall comments that he was interested in FSU and Alabama. All this indicates to me that he wants to be surrounded by big-time talent and have a run at a championship. If so, maybe our new-found street cred could make a difference.

Going against everybody but Texas is Mama. She's been pretty adamant about A'Shawn not going far away from home.

Can't watch his highlights right now. Does this kid have the ability to play defense too? Possible that we are interested in him for versatility?

I agree with what you're saying. I guess if the staff wants him then bring him in but I will question this one

II has been talking about taking a second TE over the last week and this plays right into that. With that said Jake Brown today posted that this isn't take right now scenario. This is a possible official visit in late January after we've figured out where the other chips fall.

This. What a fan may see as a 'stacked' position on paper can very easily turn into a one of need in the blink of an eye. Plus, again remember that BK and his staff don't see these kids as strictly TEs or any other specific positions. Smythe, like Matuska, Niklas, etc is a big skill type athlete that probably can be moved around based on need.

I don't know if drowning is the right term. Hypothetically, if Welch's rehab isn't going well we would have Koyack (3rd year but never full time starter), Niklas (only on year as TE used mostly as blocker), and Heuerman (true frosh) and that is it.

To be fair, Eifert hadn't shown much before Rudolph left either.
