II has been talking about taking a second TE over the last week and this plays right into that. With that said Jake Brown today posted that this isn't take right now scenario. This is a possible official visit in late January after we've figured out where the other chips fall.

Nice. Love this strategy. Thanks for relaying this.

True, but that is exactly it. We were still taking other TE's in recruiting.

We're at 4/4 right now, and all of them were highly rated as recruits.

Prior to this season, Welch was regarded as our best blocking TE; Niklas made some big catches this season, and has shown flashes of being a dominant blocker; Koyack struggled early this season, but steadily improved as a blocker, etc.

If Welch's rehab isn't going well, then we should take another TE for depth alone. Hell, with all the 12 personnel we're running these days, we should probably be carrying no less than 5 TEs anyway. And while there's no proven star behind Eifert (nor behind Te'o, Nix, etc.), TE is not lacking in quality depth, especially compared to some other position groups.

I'm not saying we should take this new Texas decommit, but I also agree with those who note we are not "stacked" at TE, at least from a depth perspective. By my count, we'll have four scholarship TEs next year assuming we sign only Heureman (and assuming Welch comes back). This is for a position where we frequently have two TEs on the field at the same time. By comparison, for WR -- a position where we usually have two or three guys on the field at once -- we'll have eleven scholarship guys on the team next year (assuming seven returning WRs and we sign our current four verbals). And at RB, a position where we usually only have one guy on the field at a time, assuming we sign Bryant and Folston and Wood goes pro (all of which most people expect), we'll have six scholarship players next year. By comparison, four TEs does not seem like an abundance to me, especially given the uncertainty with Welch coming off injury.

I know we all love 5:s: players.

Of the 25 players who made AP All-America 1st team, more than half (14) didn't make Rivals.com's top 250 their senior HS seasons.

To be fair, you don't need to be an AA to make an impact.

Totally agree, just a point that the "experts" don't always get it right either. The coaches usually know best.

When Kelly wants to talk to a three star or whatever, consider this guy intrigued.

The majority of pro bowlers are late rd picks and fa's. every coaching staff has its strength and ours is developing players. I will take all the Chris browns and Romeo okwaras and USC can keep the megloegomaniacs that fold like a cheap bag chair when faced with adversity.

So did anyone ever get to the bottom of TP's tweets? Or are we assuming they pertained to MaxRed?

Does anyone ever really get to the bottom of TP's tweets? The tweet last night, some people (me) thought had to do with Folston because we (not me) were visiting him last night. TP dropped in with an 'all is well' on Redfield's thread this evening so I think that is as close to getting to the bottom of it as we are going to get.

If I'm missing something then someone please correct me, especially if I'm missing good news

That's the beauty of them. Whether something is up or not, people only use the times when something happens near his tweets to justify their love affair with him. Anyone could tweet "buzz buzz" during a time when several recruits are getting visits and every pay site is rumor milling, and it would make them look like genius when one of them commits too.

Just typin'...

I've only been on the site this recruiting year, but has he ever been wrong?

Although he only puts vague words, things usually happen pretty soon after regarding a recruit. At least that is what I have seen.

He's been on a lot more than he's been off, unless you subscribe to Wooly's point of view in which case he's a carnie. I happen to think he's legit- too much to be coincidence IMO.

There was an "incident" last year in which he called Brian Poole to ND late in the cycle and it never happened. Seems to be that it may very well have been legit, but that maybe the parents wanted it more than Brian. In any event, some people think TP lost some cred over that. Again, I think he's legit.

If I was a rich man I would sign up for premium sites and see who comes out with info first, but I'm not so yeah lol

edit: Oh I see now Piombino. So one guy he was off on, is enough to say he is not legit?

Count me as a believa

I dunno, I really don't think he's just regurgitating premium info. IMO, it would appear he has a direct link to the program.
