I posted for Elko a while back. He's my preference over Strong. Look at what he did with mediocre talent.at WF. If we land him, I think we'll all be quite pleased.

To quote the great Clark Griswald:

"Catherine, if this turkey tastes half as good as it looks, we're all in for a real treat!"

Then it promptly shriveled as he cut open the driest turkey known to man. Let's hope Mike Elko isn't a dry turkey on the inside.

I wouldn't be mad if Hoke was our DL coach.

I have a question, say Elko is hired, who do you think will be hired to round out the defensive side of the ball? I know our D-line hasn't played up to par, but do you guys think they retain Todd Lyght? Our upperclassmen DBs didn't play too well but the freshmen showed some promise.

Elko to interview for the DC position

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/WakeForest?src=hash">#WakeForest</a> DC Mike Elko is a hot commodity. Is expected to interview for <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NotreDame?src=hash">#NotreDame</a> DC job early this week, source tells <a href="https://twitter.com/FOXSports">@FoxSports</a>.</p>— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) <a href="https://twitter.com/BruceFeldmanCFB/status/808437827331461120">December 12, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Based on the level of secrecy BK and ND have been able to maintain recently, I think if it got out that he is interviewing, it means that he is going to get the job.

Elko employs mainly a 4-2-5 correct?

Not sure. Thought Wake ran a lot of 3-4 against us last year.

EDIT: per Google, it seems it is 4-2-5. Not sure how that fits our personnel... seems their 5th DB is basically a hybrid kind of linebacker/strong safety so maybe that would work for Bilal, Tranquill, etc. So if that's the case, then it should actually be a rather seamless transition for the guys that were playing the most this year. The problem is our DL looks super questionable for next year so expecting production from the front 4 might be a tough ask unless they can get something out of Okwara... who still weighs like 150 pounds... and Daelin Hayes.

So your argument for Joe Schmidt starting over Nyles Morgan last year is that this year, Morgan (1) was not a finalist for his position award; (2) was not on any All-American teams; and (3) was not the defensive player of the year on his own team? Seriously?

Statistical comparisons aside (I'm sure the "missed tackles" stat would be a shocking comparison), it was evident to everyone who watched games that Morgan was MUCH better this year than Schmidt was last year. That doesn't prove Morgan would have been better than Schmidt last year but I would be very surprised if someone with Morgan's talent could have been worse than the debacle that was Joe Schmidt 2015.

No, my argument is that you people should stop being so pigheaded about it. You can't compare their production, considering how dumbed down this year's defense was once BVG was fired. Morgan is certainly more athletic than Schmidt was. But athleticism isn't much of a help if you are constantly in the wrong spot. I don't KNOW that Morgan would always have been in the wrong spot last year, but I think it is absolutely possible that THAT is what kept Joe Schmidt starting.

The etc's = DJ Morgan and Spencer Perry who are on the sideline waiting on a position assignment.

The places this guy has been are the teams Notre Dame needs to be playing-although that Hofstra game really would have me worried.

What I see in here is "But Mommy, I want a championship NOW!!" LOL

I'm a subway alum but I will say this The University of Notre Dame has a football team that has regressed to the point where it no longer is looked upon as important. It is living in the past in many ways---man it hurts to say that (it really does) but someone needs a dose of reality as to where Notre Dame is today. Of course we don't want the embarrassment of the last Heisman trophy winner's acceptance speech but unless you want to go the way of the dinosaurs you better get some football players in there or lower the schedule and join a less competitive group you are playing. This isn't working. Kelly who in my mind is a very good coach cant do it with one hand tied behind his back. Its not the coaches or the strength coach etc its the players. They are not very good compared to who they are playing. Change something or lessen the schedule and keep some respect. I remind you that 4 years ago they went undefeated and could not build upon that because of the culture of Notre Dame. Be IVY League----no problem from me but start playing an Ivy League schedule-I'd still pull for 'em.

That just isn't true. Using the 247 composite rankings, they had a top 10 roster. I believe it was 6th. There was/is plenty of talent on the roster to compete with. Especially, when compared to the teams we lost to. We have absolutely smoked Duke, VT, NC State, and Navy in recruiting. And have bested Stanford and MSU, overall, for a majority of Kelly's tenure. You win those games, and this season is just fine.

You are talking about statistics and recruiting rankings while I am talking about football players--example---what was Chris Zorich's recruiting ranking. I think he was a 3 star guy if memory serves me correctly. Very glad to hear the good news that we smoked Duke N C State VT and Navy in recruiting as they football played us into losses. Off hand after watching those games I'd say the were better and tougher both mentally and physically. This reaction to the truth is just my point. Actually I'm not sure Zoro was even a 3 star guy.

Stop. ND has more talent than Duke, NC State, VT or Navy. ND lost those games because they are poorly coached and mentally weak.
