To quote the great Clark Griswald:

"Catherine, if this turkey tastes half as good as it looks, we're all in for a real treat!"

Then it promptly shriveled as he cut open the driest turkey known to man. Let's hope Mike Elko isn't a dry turkey on the inside.

A ray of sunshine! lol

This ^^^

After checking flight logs out of Winston Salem, my soruces tell me he's flying in overnight and meeting his real estate agent at Starbucks.

True because everyone knows BK is a Duncan Donuts guy and the press will be circling DD like turkey buzzards.

That just isn't true. Using the 247 composite rankings, they had a top 10 roster. I believe it was 6th. There was/is plenty of talent on the roster to compete with. Especially, when compared to the teams we lost to. We have absolutely smoked Duke, VT, NC State, and Navy in recruiting. And have bested Stanford and MSU, overall, for a majority of Kelly's tenure. You win those games, and this season is just fine.

We need the wins in another category.

Loy said that he still thinks Elko will be the new DC but a deal is not done yet.

I'm treating this like a high school recruit. I'll get excited when it becomes official lol

I'm excited if/when Elko is the new DC not because of his reputation that he is building but because he's from the ACC. Since ND plays 4-5 ACC teams a year, having the experience that Elko has going up against them each year will make the learning curve for game planning against them much more comfortable and not so steep.

FWIW, Wake's recruiting rankings on 247:

2012: 66 (0 - 4 stars, 18 3-stars).
2013: 67 (0 - 4 stars, 19 3-stars).
2014: 65 (0 - 4 stars, 21 3-stars).
2015: 53 (0 - 4 stars, 22 3-stars).
2016: 60 (0 - 4 stars, 19 3-stars).

He never coached a 4 star player while at WF.

In fairness, people said the same thing when Kelly came here... "Look at his recruits at Cinci, look at Central.. This guy has been a great coach and has never had talent.. what happens when he comes here and coaches real talent!"

So what happens when Kelly is fired next year? Does Elko stay? I'd hate to sign this guy and then brush him out for the next regime.

Yeah but what's his pedigree aka how many years did he spend at GVSU?

Dude kills the game for UK as a recruiter. He is a legend among their fanbase, and is a thorn in OSU's side when it comes to recruiting their backup-plans away from Ohio.

TE production isn't great at UK, but they are a really weird run-first air-raid.

Who would you guys prefer between Grinch and Elko?

Either... Both are fresh blood who have proven they can have top 25 Defenses at schools who typically don't have good defenses... This isn't hiring BVG who hadn't been a good college DC in a decade.. These guys both understand the game today and know what it takes to have a good defense

The etc's = DJ Morgan and Spencer Perry who are on the sideline waiting on a position assignment.

Exactly I think we have the personal to make it work. Hopefully he has been talking to a few more safeties unless we move either Coleman or White to safety.

To be quite honest, not many SEC teams have elite TEs. Howard for Bama has been the brightest in the past 5-7 years.

So now that booker is out... Do they hire from the outside?

I think Quinn needs to be promoted; whether he should be promoted to QB coach or Tight Ends coach, that is obviously up to BK. But I would prefer if they did an outside hire for special teams and just have that guy only focus on special teams.

FWIW, Wiltfong believes that hiring Vince Marrow to replace Booker is a no brainer and that he is an elite recruiter and great coach.

If you're a TE recruit, I would think you could only be more committed with the exodus of Booker. I can't see production at the position being any worse under another coach. 12 receptions all year by a TE! Regardless if BK doesn't utilize the TE in his offense this year, he did at one point.

I would pick Grinch solely on name alone. Imagine the memes..

If I'm reading correctly, Grinch has only been a DC for 2015 and 2016. He was a safeties coach before that.
