The tale of transferring Ohio State LB Mike Mitchell reminds us why the possibilities in recruiting are so inviting | cleveland.com

The Mitchells are a tight band of high achievers. When Mike signed last year, Ken (his dad) called the chance at early playing time, “a high priority. ... The Mitchells don’t like to sit on the bench.

His old man has been sick also. But as the article above mentoins his younger brother committed to OSU for hoops, so yeah it will be interesting to see how it works out. He was highly ranked by recruiting services but many feel this was for his athletic prowess ( he was called a SPARQ wonder but not a football player) rather than his on-field talents and linebacking skills

Former Alabama QB “saw the writing on the wall” before transfer to Oregon State | CollegeFootballTalk

Del Rio opened up about his departure from Alabama in an interview with The Oregonian Friday. While reflecting on the opportunity to play right away, Del Rio said it was not likely he would have had the same opportunity had he stayed at Alabama. According to Del Rio, Alabama’s caching staff led him to believing he would be receiving a scholarship if he stuck with the team, but eventually head coach Nick Saban made a business decision in deciding Del Rio would not receive a scholarship.

“(Saban) said, ‘We’re not ready to make that commitment yet from a business perspective,’” Del Rio said to The Oregonian. “He said if he had the numbers, then he would have done it. And I respected that.”

Not trying to rekindle the oversigning debate, but damn that sucks for the kid.

You don't need to rekindle it, Saban did that for you. What a Fucking scumbag. Anyone here think Luke Massa would've had his schollie renewed each year?

Or Heggie?

What a freaking douche. But don't worry, Keith, because Paul Finebaum will lecture the world about how the SEC is a fantastic conference. It's not full of liars, cheats, and unethical assholes like Saban.

Or J Turner or J Atkinson or name your non starter. What a Douche Bag. Actually calling him a Douche Bag is an insult to the Douche, which I think is actually quite useful.

The anal zone said this the day before he committed to ND.....

Shoot... we don't even risk 5th years, nonetheless regular scholarships. This class was the tightest we made it in recent years and we could have taken two additional recruits.

I'm curious to hear what Bishop and T Town have to say about this. They already know our opinions about this douchebaggery and we know theirs. But this isn't just speculation, it's straight from the horse's ass...I mean mouth.

So I was thinking of Phillip Ely when we were talking about Del Rio. Apparently he was a walk on and never had a scholarship.

So Del Rio comes to Bama after turning down scholarships from other D1 schools with no guarantee of playing time or a scholarship. He is then told he would not receive one. For that, Saban is a scumbag? He was given every opportunity that the other QBs were given to take the backup position. He didn't.... even with subpar competition. And therefore he didn't get his scholarship. And the story behind the story is pretty simple... Boy Wonder didn't recruit him out of high school and the writing on the wall for Del Rio was that he was not going to see anything significant as far as playing time under LK. Maybe they should have lied to him, kept him around for the next three years, and let him piss away any opportunity to play at the collegiate level.

Del Rio was kinda crazy to go there in the first place, he had scholarship offers for other decent schools and was going to Bama knowing they already had 2 QB's in that class and 6 in total when summer camp came around.

Hmmmm...on one hand I think Del Rio is an idiot for turning down scholarships to other programs if they were available. On the other hand, it's not cool to lead on 17 and 18 year old kids into thinking they're getting a scholarship and then not deliver. Yeah, by 18 they're considered adults in the eyes of the world, but you're letting him think he's going to get a scholarship and then don't deliver? Is that how bad you want to win? That could jeopardize a kid's future, don't lead people on like that. Either say "Yes, you will get a scholarship" and deliver, or say "No, there won't be a scholarship available" and let the kid decide to make the stupid move or not.

I talked to some friends in Lexington just last week and they said that Barker was okay in the spring, but they were confident that Whitlow would once again be the starter if Towles didn't step up... either Stoops/UK are keeping a phenomenal spring from Barker on the hush-hush, or Towles really impressed.

I would love for us to snag a 5Y, immediately-available QB this summer. We have the schollie to give and we could use somebody else to buffer against Kizer having to burn a redshirt if we have an injury or two.

That'd be great, but I imagine most of these 5Y guys are looking for one last rodeo and wouldn't be content to finish out their eligibility on the bench. If there's someone out there willing to do that though, then by all means bring them in.

sounds GREAT in theory, but there is a reason they are transferring...they are buried on depth chart and would be here as well

Right, good points ... it would have to be someone like Wulfeck last year who was transferring primarily for academic reasons.

qb's GENERALLY don't have that kind of personality...they feel they're the best and should be playing..
