RIP. Had no idea he was battling cancer. ESPN lost one of the good ones today.

Terrible. His ESPY speech just a few months ago was so inspiring. Hate to see him go.

Yes it was

I believe he's battled it on and off for years. I didn't realize it was this bad this time around. Good broadcaster, better man. May he rest in peace.

He was great. Loved all of the booyahs. Sad day.

As cool as the other side of the pillow...something I use today.

Credit to these guys on air today...some are on the verge of breaking down on camera. Gotta be difficult.

He was one of the best broadcasters, and by all accounts, a really good guy. May he RIP. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

He had "it" as a broadcaster...he brought you in. He could engage on any sport, and do it well. The guy was all at once easy to listen to, but professional as hell.

RIP...huge loss to sports journalism...Prayers to his family.

One of the few at ESPN worth a damn. His ESPY speech is on ESPN right now if anyone wants to watch.

RIP.

He was fun and good for the craft. He put a street spin on the Patrick - Olbermann model and made it fun for the next generation while not alienating the old folks.

Here's a nice write-up done in house at ESPN:

Stuart Scott, ESPN anchor, dies at age of 49 - ESPN

We lost a good Chicagoan today... RIP.

RIP Stuart Scott! Great man and great broadcaster!

That really was a great speech, and while it may be cliche to point out but the biggest tragedy is that someone just lost there husband and two young girls just lost their father. Fuck cancer.

Just wanted to add that as the day has gone on, I have continued to be more saddened by this. It's truly an end to an era. Stuart Scott has been the voice of my sports since I was 11 years old. Truly a sad day.

Fantastic human being and one of the greatest TV personalities. Him and Van Earl Wright were my favourite.

Brave is the person that doesn't accept the "norm" in their profession and strives to make it something unique. Stuart Scott made sports broadcasting unique. And he did it by being true to himself. But more brave is the person that makes a difference in the lives of those around him and those he inspired that was able to watch him on television. To say he was special isn't justice... as one can tell by simply listening to the comments of his coworkers. He was uniquely special. He influenced a whole generation of athletes and sports fans and to that there is no greater compliment one can receive. Well done Stuart Scott... well done.
