Spring Practice Thread 2012

I'm with NDOM on Goodman. In no way should he be playing offense or returning next year. He's just not good enough. Daniels or Smith need to pass him on the depth chart to give the new QB some targets. Eifert at WR should be fun to watch, but one play with Goodman on offense is one too many.

Goodman is fine. He is one of our fastest receivers. He will stretch the field. Our strength this year will be that we have so many different receivers, that have different strengths, that play in configurations that show different looks. We now have four stud TE's, three of which can line up at WR! We can also put at least six receivers on the field that are 6'3" or taller!

Day looks bigger than i thought!
And Gunner has got guns!!

Day is not very tall; but he is quicker than greased lightening. I didn't bother him but we were standing in close proximity at the SC rally last year. 6'2" is an exageration. But he is fast, I mean FAST. It is hard to explain, but he is strong as a bull, and really quick in all of his movements like some smalller guys are. I watched him move around a couple of people that zigged when they should have zagged, and he was around them like they didn't even know where.

I was really pumped that so many people misidentified Councell for McDaniels. Dude is 6'5"! McDaniels has a stocky build; no one made a mistake like that last year!

Wasn't their talk last year that Jalen Brown was the fastest corner we had? Davaris ran right by him in that clip.

Sheldon really reminds me of Trevor Laws. Strong and quick, quick quick! Dude can be a real beast for us!

im pretty sure Josh is maybe the fastest on the team. Him Bennett and George are supposed to run 4.3s now and josh was the fastest at track

umm...thanks I guess. Wasn't what I asked, but solid info.

I went and dug through Jalen's profile and here is what I found (not to quote myself)

Und.com practice video august 9th said Jalen ran a 4.37 40 at camp making him one of the fastest on team.

Also, if everyone remembers Michael Floyd thanked Jalen for his hard work on the scout team against him.

Davaris could be real special!

Update is up on und.com. Rather short one though, only 3 1/2 minutes.

TJ running right by Lo in the video and Cam making a good play on the ball.

Also, Davaris has some chicken legs.

The caption on the picture I seen said they were doing throwing drills. Just good timing by the photographer.

!

So how long do you think until he is moved to nose to back up Big Lou? IMO Day is more of a 3 technique in a 4 man front or (if he can bulk up a little more and still be that fast) a headache for centers as a nose in the 3 man front....

IMO I don't see him playing end in our base 3-4.....

And to think, we don't even have Jarron, Shumate, Prosise, etc.....

I've been saying it for months, this team could benefit by addition from subtraction

It's the first day, so who really knows. Just good to see the guys on the field... shake the rust off, get into drills, etc. Anxious to see how it all plays out. This is the third year for Kelly's offense. For a lot of this guys, this should be second nature.

I do like these videos though. Remember a few years ago when this stuff wasn't even thought of? It's crazy how I'm able to watch a practice report every day and then go see the spring game in person and pick up on the improvement of this group in only a month. It's awesome.

Luke Massa is #14, right? He looked pretty good. He could be a great red-zone weapon next year.

Agreed even it was against the 2nd or 3rd Defense.... we can only speculate but if he stays at WR there is a reason.....

First of all, this video pumped me up! Secondly, Gunner Kiel has the best facemask...give the starting job to him.

Kelly said practice pattern was MWF and Saturday, because that best fit in with getting the guys to classes.

I thought it was 3 days no contact, upper shells are allowed on day 3 and contact can start day 4. I do know that it is zero contact till day 4 regardless of gear.

Closed practice to the media today but und.com will post a video later today of some clips (at least that is how it has worked in the past). Interviews after practice will include the Kraken and DD.
