I thought Theo looked faster in that clip at the end than he did last season. SUPER excited about this years front 7.

Manti is defiantly faster, stronger, etc. best shape so far he said earlier.

It was just one rep but of course Carlo and Prince whif in coverage

I still want Ishaq-Manti-Fox-Shembo but think we will see Spond-Manti-Fox-Shembo which Im good with

Also a lot of four down lineman with Prince and Ishaq being the 4th

Did not know Lo Wood took 150 snaps last year for us. Hmm. Not sure if that makes me feel better or worse.

Am I alone when I say that I just don't see Ishaq giving 100%?

This is true of last years practice films, game time body language, and now with today's focus on linebackers.

Every other LB went through those drills like animals, Ishaq seemed to coast.

I know it was a very small sample, but every time I see him he kind of just looks lackadaisical.

Further, I know there are athletes that are so gifted that they make it look incredibly easy like they're not trying. Robinson Cano used to get a lot of flack because he doesn't look like he hustles in the infield, but he doesn't have to...he's just that good.

I feel like football's a different sport though, we should see some fire out of a guy at some point.

Not my intention to call him lazy, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if I'm completely off.

I just think Williams has more of a laid back personality. Can't really take to much out of his playing time last year, because he was swimming with a completely new position and probably the most difficult defensive position Notre Dame has in its scheme. Maybe if he is still in that mode at the end of this year when he's on the field there can be some concern. Until then, he is still relatively young.

Whoa really? That surprises me. And I don't know what to make of it either. Am I glad to know he avoided giving up Gary Gray-like bad plays or mad that he didn't find a way to stand out by making more good plays?

I think I've noticed what you are noticing, but I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt. I sometimes thought he looked a bit lackadaisical when he got in the games, but I assumed he was hesitating because he was still learning a new position and figuring out where he was supposed to be on the field. Now that I've seen that he looks kind of the same in practice, I think it may be the perceptual thing you mentioned re: Robinson Cano. Some people just move smoothly instead of violently, so it looks like they aren't as strong or fast as someone else, when in fact they are stronger and faster. I think Ishaq is one of those.

So how long do you think until he is moved to nose to back up Big Lou? IMO Day is more of a 3 technique in a 4 man front or (if he can bulk up a little more and still be that fast) a headache for centers as a nose in the 3 man front....

IMO I don't see him playing end in our base 3-4.....

I don't know. He almost doesn't look like a stuff 'em up the middle kinda guy. Might be part of a new four down lineman set. But he would be insane off the other end opposite Aaron Lynch on third and long. If I was a qb I wouldn't want any of that!

Hes not explosive, wasnt in his highschool film really. His movement is awkward for a lb much like Niklas was. ishaq should just be on dline, work on adding muscle to those toothpicks. I actually felt he would move to TE and Niklas would be dline.

I remember a play last year with a great TV angle behind the QB of the opposite team. It was a stretch play to the right. Ishaq came down from the left and rode the tail end of the oline. He was within a man from the guy but never grabbed him. The RB made a 3-4 yard gain but I remember thinking if he had hustled he would have creamed the dude behind the LOS. Considering he was heading straight toward the RB and the RB was stutter stepping to find the hole, it caught me off guard. One of those bad feeling moments. I chose to brush it off thinking he was more worried about the guy cutting back on him. Basically, hole collapsed and the guy just went down with what he had. Ishaq stood over the pile without ever touching a man. I am hoping he plays waaaaaay different.

If it is what I hope it is not, Ishaq may be the guy that leaves JR year for a school like Syracuse that he can start no matter what. I feel like he was just missing something last year and still support him 100%. Kid just needs to feel, himself personally, he can be an AA if he commits 100%.

Hope to see big things from him this year.

Ishaq: I hear ya on this guy. He does seem to have a laid back personality. What stood out for me was that he has not put a lot of weight/muscle onto his frame. I know this is based of small video clips, so....

I hope he brings it-I want this guy to live up to his billing.

He's listed at 255, but he still looks lean. Compared to Lynch, he looks like a wide receiver. There's no doubt that he's most likely stronger, but maybe the coaching staff wants to keep him somewhat slim to help with quickness and agility. Just a thought.

I just saw that, 6'-5" @ 255. He still looks like a stick though-agreed on the WR comment-Ha! Maybe the weight is all in the lower body? He could add another 10-15 lbs IMO.

As long as he is strong, I could care less what he looks like. As much as we want to read into Spring Practice, remember, it's just that, practice in March and April. Way to early to get any sort of read on anybody.

I don't think they practice until noon today to give all of the recruits time to get in.

MT Greg Biggins (@GregBiggins) Just bumped into former #ND DB Tee Shepard here watching his brother, said he's hoping to get healthy and cleared in May

EDIT: Probably a comment that isn't necessary and could derail the thread.

Hopefully the fools on here talking bad about him doesn't change him actually wanting to come back if it works out.

I thought his dad said he wasn't considering coming back to ND. Or was that statement untrue?

I have not seen that. I did read that he said he loved ND when here. Hopefully he does find his way back. I consider him gone for now.

I don't think he means cleared at ND.. It's been stated that he was no longer considering ND. But who knows.. With the way his tenure before and at ND has gone so far we can't rule anything out.

Anyways, back to Goodman. Some of you scoffed when I said he was one of the fastest receivers we had. He is. Stop with your reverse bigotry or man crushes and take a look. Also I said last year that Luke Massa would play at wide receiver, and many of you scoffed. Both of these guys are playing damn good ball! And what does that do to our receiver corps? TN 6'7, TE 6'6", BK 6'6", JG 6'3", AW 6'4", DS 6'4". More? All of these guys can be put in mismatch situations because of the speedy guys that can break long or make a play from underneath. And some of these big guys are speedier than the average bear. Back to where I started from with JGoodman!
