What if he interviews poorly? This is the type of tunnel vision we want to avoid if we are going to turn things around.

Good thing we don't make the decisions so a I.E. posters "tunnel vision" doesn't matter.

Jimmy Lake on Friday??? (please-o-please-o-please)

With the news of Elko interviewing I have to go do a couple of things I never imagined I'd do:

1. Go look at WF's offers & commits

2. See if they have any WDE/OLB's or CB's worth snagging.

Anyone know anything about Elko's recruiting prowess? Granted he's been at Wake Forest, so it may be hard to judge based on that.

Fuck interviews. His interview has been what he's done at Wake with far less talent than he'll have at his disposal here. Hire the dude. Profit.

This. The proof is in the pudding. And TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to poo poo all over his interview performance anyways, despite the outcome of it, finding a reason to name Elston DC to keep "the circle of trust" going.

I've said it several times before. This is my guy. He's done very well at WF given the talent he has to work with. He would improve our defense immediately. If he didn't, then BK and company are way off in evaluating talent.

so dead period starts today. Can we hire a dc today? I don't want to hear "have to wait til after bowl season". Other teams and coaches aren't.

There have a large number of head coaches hired over the last two weeks. How many coordinators have been hired?

What's taking LSU, OSU, Texas, Houston, etc so long to have their staff completely in place?

Screw that. This is Notre Dame damnit!

Interview should go something like this:

BK/JS: Michael, thank you for interviewing. When can you start? *slides blank check across the table*

ME: I already have. *wink; double pistol*

Like BVG and Diaco? That's a recruiting tag team right there.

Right, well poor recruiting by the previous DCs is a huge reason why the defense was terrible this season. If any of the candidates said that they prefer to be hands off in the recruiting process a la Diaco or BVG, that'd be a huge red flag, even for Elko.

Elko isn't in the Top 83 Recruiter Coach Rankings in the ACC. 6 other WF coaches did make the Top 83 FWIW.

Elko has two commits under his belt according to 247. So recruiting i say isn't exactly familiar to him - not saying he wouldn't be good at it.

I hope he lands on his feet. Seems to be a good person. Wish him all the best... but it had to be done.

That would still be an upgrade. Hire. Him.

So you are saying the guy who was on literally no one's radar before maybe a month or two ago and who, by the way, no other program is targeting right now, is someone we should 100% hire?

It's not about whether he would be an upgrade over the current situation, it's about whether or not he would be an upgrade over other potential candidates. He certainly might be the best option but you have to at least interview other guys and see what each has to offer.

The only thing i could see is if they get a feel that he doesn't want to put the extra mile in recruiting.

Or maybe he is an atheist.

Or maybe he comes unprepared for the interview.

I personally think he would be a good hire but I don't think a guy we know very little about is necessarily a sure thing and one we "should not let leave without a contract."
