Silly Season 2015/2016 (Coaching Changes)

"Elko’s Bowling Green defense excelled at forcing turnovers and stopping opponents on third down. Over his five seasons as defensive coordinator, the Falcons forced 106 turnovers or 1.7 per game. Bowling Green held opponents to just 35.9 percent third down conversions over those five seasons. In both 2012 and 2013, the Falcons ranked in the top 10 in the nation in both total defense and scoring defense.

The 2012 season was a banner year for the BGSU defense, finishing the season ranked sixth in the country in total defense (296.6) and 10th in scoring (16.7). The Falcons held the opposition to under 100 yards rushing in nine contests as BGSU had six different players earn All-MAC Honors, including three first-team members (Chris Jones, Gabe Martin, BooBoo Gates). Jones would go on to be named a first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).

The 2012 defense would finish as the fourth-best third down defense in the nation, allowing a first down just 28.1 percent of the time. Their fourth down defense was just as good, finishing fifth in the country at 26.3 percent. They would end the season ranked 11th in sacks (38), 12th in rushing defense (106.5), 13th in pass defense (190.1) and fifth in first downs allowed (15.1). All of this was accomplished with just two senior starters."

Per his WF bio - sorry I don't have the link but that's where this is pulled from.

ch-ch-ch-ch-changes...

I read the article and it didn't say anything about Booker?

However multiple sources have said its true... I am torn... We have gotten good TE recruits I think in large part because of him.. Unfortunately he is not a great coach

Irish247 has confirmed that Notre Dame tight ends coach and special teams coach Scott Booker will not return to South Bend with the Fighting Irish next season.
(Photo: Tom Loy, 247Sports)

We reached out for comment, but Booker did not immediately respond.

Booker is from Pittsburgh, Pa. He attended Kent State, where he played safety. He came to Notre Dame as an intern in the 2010-2011 season. He was promoted to tight ends coach and special teams coordinator in 2012.

His special teams unit struggled in 2016, but prior to that, the Irish scored four touchdowns on special teams in 2015, which is the most by Notre Dame in a season since 2000.

Regarding the 2017 class, Booker landed two of the nation's best tight ends in Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair four-star Brock Wright, who already signed grant-in-aid paperwork as an early enrollee, and Arlington Heights (Ill.) St. Viator four-star Cole Kmet. Both are fully expected to stick with their pledge to Notre Dame.

Upon hearing the news, Kmet shared a comment on whether or not this impacts him.

"Doesn't impact me in any way," said the U.S. Army All-American. "I did not pick a school because of a coach, so I am solid with where I am at."

I believe solid when the name is faxed in on signing day, and even then I am not 100%.

That'd be awesome for Weis Jr.. He went Marian High School in Mishawaka and has worked hard to get where he is at

nepotism helped too im sure

Oh for sure, but that applies to like half of coaches. Everyone acts like Kelly is the only guy who brings in people he's familiar with, but that's so far from the truth. To become a college coach is extraordinarily hard. Impossible without connections of some kind.

I'm sure Weis Jr has learned plenty too. Might be real good someday for all we know.

You know, I feel a bit bad for Booker. I don't think Special Teams or TEs was his natural place to coach (he had been a defensive backs coach before he got here), but I'm sure he was the one petitioning for a chance to be on this coaching staff even if it meant in a position he had never coached before. I wish the best for coach Booker and hope he can find a nice job quickly.

Man Big 12 football is about to change with Orlando at Texas and Snow at Baylor. No more 70-63 games when these guys are playing.

I wouldn't be so sure... we heard the same when Strong went to Texas. The offenses (and offensive talent) in the Big XII are still way ahead of the defensive talent.

don't think so. HS ball in Texas dictates Big12 play style alot and they are still throwing the ball and trying to outscore each other in shoot outs rather than aiming to keep scores down.

I don't know why this made me chuckle a little... You had Two OC's for a pretty good offense, a week later none

It will be good for him to go run a program get the feel for the job and give him an opportunity to work out problems. I can't see why he wouldn't want to come back to ND.

I truly think he'll win 10+ games a year and then hop back to ND once Kelly is out... whether that's in one year or five I don't know.

Pure gut on his desire to return to ND specifically or is there some insight here?

WKU is set up so well for success on offense.

The real test for Sanford is going to be hiring defensive coaches to get that unit in order. Nick Holt is a good d-coordinator that was in the middle of developing a decent unit, and might be able to continue that rebuild if there is continuity, but I haven't heard if he's following Brohm to Purdue or not.

The previous WKU coaches didn't make the huge jump to blue blood did they? Is this more of a 2 years then jump to mid-P5 school and then be a hot coaching candidate?
