Uphill battle for recruits in Cali and Texas will be even harder now with Kiffin and Mack gone, and Mora and Sumlin staying

He is absolutely crazy if he doesn't take the job.

He is absolutely crazy if he doesn't take the job.

Except he could go to Florida next year, which would be a much better fit IMO.

Maybe he can hire dynamic Coordinators to be the mouthpiece for the LHN......ha ha.

This feels like a reach........I think everyone turned them down.

His average class at Louisville has not been much better than before he got there.

I hear ya. I just think a situation like this is perfect for him because he will continue to get all the kids that will be Longhorns no matter who coaches and he is going to pull a couple studs from outside the state (Florida) every year.

Yeah, Louisville has something like 36 players from the state of Florida. He loves to recruit that state. I hope he goes to Texas, though, considering we play them soon.

Still can't believe Muschamp kept his job.

Florida might be a better "fit" but there's no guarantee it's going to open up next year.

Hasn't Strong's recruiting methods been deemed "unsound" by some too? He will be under a microscope at Texas.

Who really gives two shits if he doesn't want to be on the network? If he is producing on the field you think they are going to care? Forde just didn't want him to leave Louisville, he lives there.

Wow - Vegas had it right for weeks.

Very surprised this is how it ended up.

Yea....I just feel that even though he is a very good coach, the fit isn't right. In the fit sense, it's kind of like Rich Rod to scUM.

Honestly whenever or if Brian Kelly ever left for the NFL. My first choice was always Charlie Strong, I think he is a great freaking coach. He will kill it at Texas.

Maybe. Or maybe Forde has a unique perspective because he lives in the market. Bottom line...yes, if he wins, no one in Austin will care.

Maybe it was here, but I read somewhere South Carolina was Strong's absolute "dream job," in the real sense, and he would go there no matter where he was when Spurrier retired.

Why would Forde care who coaches Louisville football? Though he may have sources in the Louisville athletic department who've been talking down the idea of Strong to Texas.

Thing is, coaching a top-tier program like Texas (or ND) is as much about face-of-the-program stuff as it is about x's and o's. No idea what Strong thinks about all that but it'll be a big change from what he has to do at Louisville. If he's cool with that part, he seems like a solid hire for them.

Everyone has said all along Charlie hates the media. UT knew this coming into the search. I seriously doubt that Charlie will have the same media demands as Mack (Longhorn Network wise). The guy was there for 16 years and was the face of everything. They needed filler on their shitty network and Mack loved that stuff so it fit. Won't be like that right away for Strong.

On the other hand...

Was just told by a source that #Texas has not made any decision on its head coach. So many people trying to break the story first. Will be funny if it turns out he won't be their coach.

Considering how the media jumped the gun already on this search... My first thought was, 'watch it not happen'

“@TheCardConnect: Strong said to players "I'll call you back" after multiple tried to reach out after seeing Twitter breaking news. This is real.”

“@nfldraftscout: I'm told by Louisville players that coaches are not responding to calls or texts regarding Coach Strong”

Totally disagree with this reasoning. We're in a different media market than we were 15 years ago. I think it will be worse for the new hire (assuming it's Strong) than for Mack.

I'm not saying he won't have to do Brian Kelly type things because he definitely will. I am saying I don't think they will make him do all the extra network stuff Mack did because that was his cup of tea and he wanted to do it.

I think a pre-requisite for the UT coach should be "likes working with the media."
