Original reporter of the Tressell news saying her original report was false. Browns official also denied it

“@ChipBrownOB: I'm told if #Baylor's Art Briles had been offered the #Texas job instead of an interview, he'd have gone to Austin.”

Maybe it's just me, but that is just plain stupid and makes me think much less of Briles.

I don't think it's dumb at all. Quite the opposite. Assuming Briles is more than content with staying at Baylor, what good would interviewing for UT and NOT being offered the job do him? Would only cause backlash and make him look like a douche to his current of prospective players. However, if he takes the stance that if offered the job (sans interview) then he will never have to live down trying to leave Baylor - he'll either NOT be offered or he'll bolt without having to answer to Baylor. Win/win in my book here.

Totally agree. Since Texas is on our future schedule, them ending up with Franklin is the best case scenario for us. imo

I believe a similar thing happened with ND and Gary Barnett. ND wanted to interview him and likely hire him. Barnett had just signed an extension with Northwestern and didn't want to interview. He would have accepted if offered the job. ND then hired Bob Davie.

Will admit, I've never been in the mix for a major college head coaching job, but I'd expect I'd need to interview for any job of that magnitude, not just be handed it. Really, I'd want to interview, if for no other reason than to get the measure of the people I'd be working for, especially in a minefield of a job like Texas.
I get the concern about word seeping out and then not getting the job. But if you ask all involved to be discreet, there are ways to avoid that. Saying "I'd take it if offered, but..." kind of sounds like something you say if you realize you're not a leading candidate. Not a good look.
Of course, all this is anonymous sourcing, so who knows who's really saying what.

Growing up 45 minutes from Beaver Stadium...well within the bubble of delusion...tends to do that to many independently thinking people.

Certainly did for me. I love watching their program burn...I do feel for the players though.

You're not the only one that feels for the players, see Sandusky, Jerry.

Is Matt Millen calling this game? Good Lord he's awful. He said that OSU has the best o-line he has seen this year, but I've seen Miller sacked 4 times already.

What if Tom Hammond and Matt Millen called a game together? My ears would bleed

EDIT: Posted in the wrong thread, my bad

Thanks. FWIW, Forde thinks he'll be a disaster.

Y! SPORTS

(Strong would, in fact, be the absolute worst fit for the job anyway. He is the anti-Mack Brown, completely averse to extensive interaction with media and boosters. Strong is from the Greta Garbo school – he wants to be left alone. That wouldn't fly at Longhorn Network University. If he's hired, you're free to wonder whether the people involved with the search asked the right questions and got the right answers.)

Good lord, what a freaking shit show... Well we discussed it earlier in the week, every school, even the best ones screw up hires... Even if Strong is a success I can't see ever believing that was the best they could have done.

They were turned down by every "home run" hire they could have had.
