I do wonder if the Alabama boards were saying this about replacing Hurts with Tua

It’s an interesting thought. I just don’t see the purpose of dragging one down for the other. Wimbush is far from perfect, but he has sacrificed himself time and time again on the field, and has been an excellent student/athlete representative for ND and the team.

Got my tix - I'll the the guy making his six year old do push-ups all day. Can't believe how many tickets are out there - looks like a beautiful day for football (if the scattered showers stay away in the second half). Can't wait for the Book Club.

Yeah Im having a tough time selling my extra ticket. Not gunna get face value lol

I’m all for Book getting his shot, but this crap of dragging down Wimbush as a leader is absolute junk.

Wimbush has laid it out for the team and sacrificed his body a bunch, but that doesn't mean he's a great leader. I'm no coach, but he doesn't seem to be inspiring or motivational to the guys around him (except for putting his body in harms way). I don't think it's dragging him down by pointing that out. I'm not saying Book is a better, or great leader, but he's going to get his chance to prove it.

It will be interesting to see how the team responds to Ian, and that's what is important IMO. If ND's O can find it's identity and get some swag back, then Book should keep the job. If it's more of the same, I think we are in for a long year of bouncing between the two, and watching a lot of close games that should not be close.

It’s crazy how we are undefeated and a top 10 team, yet we still have a QB controversy lol. My take on it is this. Based on what we have seen, can we realistically expect wimbush to lead us to the playoffs? No. Should that be the goal for our program? Yes. Now let me ask you the same question but for Book. The answer is “yet to be seen.” What I’m getting at is I don’t see the logic in starting wimbush when we as a fan base expect more that just a 10 win season. If we even want the chance to do something special this year we need to start Book. 10 wins isn’t special. Not in year 9. We are a QB away from being competitive in the playoffs.

I’m not just basing it off his physicality, but yes, selflessness as a trait is a sign of leadership. Brandon has never portrayed himself as a me-first guy, and yet he holds himself responsible for the direction of the team. He shoulders his faults the best way he can and never points fingers. We also don’t know all the work he puts in behind the scenes. Unless the players are lying, they believe in him more than most.

Nevertheless, I get that the leadership most fans are looking for is the one that manifests in style and is performance-based (as in victories and the manner in which we win). If Wimbush was handling his business to the utmost on the field, this wouldn’t be a discussion.

I just think the body language criticism is lazy, and Brandon has earned more respect than that. Leadership isn’t limited to one mold.

Alright, take care, guys. Here’s hoping to a great game tomorrow. Go Irish!

I think Bama is a strange case. They are good enough in every other position to win just about every game despite their QB play, or who is behind center. Put Hurts on a team outside the top 10 and I think he struggles mightily. After the Natty performance by Tua, I doubt there were too many hold outs for Hurts (3T/ Bish??). I don't think Hurts is as good as BW either.

What is most interesting to me, is how the WR/TEs respond. I've been saying for over a year, that they are potentially the biggest fall guys of this whole thing. There's been a lot of criticism of both groups, but I'm not sure it's their fault. As a receiver, it's so much easier to get in a rhythm when you trust the guy throwing the ball to deliver it consistently on time, and where it's suppose to be. Several folks have said our WRs don't get separation, but I've seen plenty of open receivers over the course of the last 1.25 years. It's really hard as well for a young WR to learn/grow at practice and in the game when feel you can't rely on your QB to get the rock to you. 50/50 balls are great in certain circumstances, but it should not be your bread and butter.

For me, leadership is a combo of 1) laying yourself on the line (check), 2) being the guy others look to for calmness, motivation, and inspiration (?), and 3) making those around you better (?). He's definitely checked one box. The other two are big questions.

I know mine dont go far, but reps from me too.

BW has laid his butt out there for the 1st down more than I can count. Kid is a good guy, a scholar, and an incredible athlete.

Screw anyone talking smack on him cuz he might not be a great QB.

I personally think our offense has the highest ceiling with Wimbush, but it just hasn't materialized consistently so I can't hate the move. Also, Wimbush as a change of pace to Book makes a lot more sense than Book as a change of pace to Wimbush.

hopefully a lot of Qs will be answered tomorrow. I'll cheer for whoever is under center. I'm glad Book is getting a chance. I'm sad that BW has struggled. I think both have a lot to offer the team.

Book transferring to FAU to play for Charlie Weis?

If Book kills it tomorrow, or going forward, we may be talking about another transfer in the off season.... I hate to even think it. But like Crusader said, it may be all about 5 star Phil regardless.

Most wanted Tua over Jalen even before the title game. The reports coming out of practice last season was that Tua was just so much better that Jalen. We now know that the reports were accurate.

I believe you are spot on with your comments. The Irish offensive skill players will tell us which QB they believe in more. If they believe Book to be the better QB for this Irish team it will show today in how they play.

The local NBC affiliate, WXII, is televising the game. I could not find anything that it is being streamed but have not looked very hard.

Go Irish!!

It's a very trendy pick this week. I'm not sure why. Wake's defense is not good. Our defense is far better than anything they've faced. IMO, the only way we lose is if we fuck up our offense by overthinking the QB situation - which is quite possible.

He is 62% career with a 5-4 TD/INT ratio. Hopefully he comes in and plays like LSU last year and not UNC and we are in great shape going into Stanford.

While we only have a small sample size to go on at this point, this is absolutely correct. He's not shown anything to this point to give anyone a reasonable assumption that he can help this team maximize it's full potential.

Game management will be a whole lot better one Long starts calling a better game plan. I think that should be this weekend because his game plan does seem to work better toward Book’s strengths then to Brandon’s strengths.

Seems to be a question asked often for our program. Are our coaches putting this team in the best position to win?

Just wait until ̶G̶o̶l̶s̶o̶n̶,̶ ̶Z̶a̶i̶r̶e̶,̶ ̶K̶i̶z̶e̶r̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶s̶ ̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶s̶e̶c̶o̶n̶d̶ ̶y̶e̶a̶r̶,̶ ̶W̶i̶m̶b̶u̶s̶h̶ Book. Next is Phil. We have been waiting for BK's QB for 9 seasons. I'm with you on less QB reliance.

Maybe the QB position isn't what needs to change....

Feels like this year's offense lacks big-play makers. If we're going to have to put together longer drives, Book may be the better option. Although I love BW, don't think he's consistent enough to get it done with the offensive weapons we have.
