What are some commonly used pronouns?
She, her, hers and he, him, his are the most commonly used pronouns. ---Some people call these "female/feminine" and "male/masculine" pronouns, but many avoid these labels because, for example, not everyone who uses he feels like a "male" or "masculine."
There are also lots of gender-neutral pronouns in use. Here are a few you might hear:
-They, them, theirs (Xena ate their food because they were hungry.) This is is a pretty common gender-neutral pronoun. It can in fact be used in the singular.
-Ze, hir (Xena ate hir food because ze was hungry.)
Ze is pronounced like "zee" can also be spelled zie or xe, and replaces she/he/they.
Hir is pronounced like "here" and replaces her/hers/him/his/they/theirs.
Just my name please! (Xena ate Xena's food because Xena was hungry) Some people prefer not to use pronouns at all, using their name as a pronoun instead.
Never, ever refer to a person as “it” or “he-she” (unless they specifically ask you to.) These are offensive slurs used against trans and gender non-conforming individuals.
I don't see anything particularly wrong with this. All staff and faculty members on a campus are trained to immediately call police if there is ANY potential gun threat.
She's acting a bit butt hurt perhaps (what is wrong with ROTC practicing on campus?), but she should not have been scolded for calling in the potential threat, no matter how minor.
#1 NOTE – NEW LAW TAKES EFFECT IN 2016/2017 AS NOTED BELOW
Effective Dates: August 1, 2016 for all state 4-year colleges and universities; August 1, 2017 for all state 2-year and junior colleges.
The new Texas law will permit individuals who have obtained a concealed handgun license (CHL) to carry their loaded, concealed weapon in college and university buildings. Each college and university may determine certain sensitive areas and buildings* where concealed weapons will continue to be prohibited. Each college and university must publically display campus policies on the official school website, as well as widely publicizing it among correspondence with the institution’s faculty, staff, and students.
Students at the University of Texas at Austin will soon be allowed to carry handguns on campus.
University of Texas President Gregory Fenves approved Wednesday the guidelines for gun owners in light of a recently passed state law allowing guns on campuses.
"I have thoroughly reviewed the policy recommendations of the Campus Carry Working Group and decided to adopt them," Fences said. "Under the law, I cannot adopt a policy that has the general effect of excluding licensed concealed handguns from campus."
In 2015, the Republican-led Texas Legislature voted to allow guns within buildings on public college campuses throughout the state.
She should be scolded.
A.) I live in Grand Forks(see Location), girlfriend goes to school at the University. They received an email recently telling them to not be alarmed, that the ROTC was going to be doing some stuff in that part of campus.
B.) As a one-time ROTC cadet(wasn't my cup of tea), the "guns" they use in those things are clearly toys, orange tip and all that. I suppose it is possible that the army guys at UND use different ones than the Air Force guys up there(we worked with the UND guys regularly, ours had orange tips).
C.) This dumb waste of space said even though she is now aware that they are doing drills on campus, she will continue to call 9-1-1 every time she sees it happening. There is no reasoning with that sort of person. She deserves all the dumb press she gets. I have very little tolerance for that brand of stupidity.
As an aside to my experience in ROTC, a semester or two after I withdrew from the program, we got a day off school at NDSU because of a bomb threat. Turns out, either the army or the air force kids left out a fake bomb from when they were doing their drills in their building that also hosts some gym classes and someone called it in.
I don't see anything particularly wrong with this. All staff and faculty members on a campus are trained to immediately call police if there is ANY potential gun threat.

Lastly, Miner calls on right-handed people to check their privilege, observing that “I didn't realize for a while that nearly everything is structured for convenient use by right[-]handed people, from school supplies to the structure of houses,” and that left-handers often have to deal with discomfort as a result.
“Don't try to silence a left-handed person who complains about scissors hurting their hand or how uncomfortable school desks are to sit in, or the struggle of having dirty hands from writing in pencil,” he advises righties, adding that they should also support increasing the number of left-handed desks in classrooms.
It's funny that the University of North Dakota made its way into this thread and it has nothing to do with the fact that they're the Fighting Sioux.

ETA: Wait, I Googled it. They're the Fighting Hawks now!? Of course they are.
That's a bad thing?
Why shouldn't they be called Fighting Sioux? Would be okay if it was just Sioux? Should we change our name?
Yes. I can maybe understand the criticism of "Redskins" and Chief Wahoo but things like Fighting Sioux, Blackhawks, and Seminoles are completely different. That's a bad thing?
Of course it is.

That logo is dope AF.Oh while that has been brought up, I got some fun stuff to talk about there.
So for years and years they battle to keep this name. Fine by me. I don't care what a school uses as a name. But its decided that they will change the name....and it comes down to Fighting Hawks, Roughriders, or Nodaks. The other two are much more unique obviously, and can be tied into North Dakotan heritage and all that jazz. NOBODY was on team Fighting Hawks, until this gets circulated as the logo they will use.

Suddenly, these clowns decide that this is the only way to keep their "heritage of honoring the Sioux!" Anyone with a brain knew that there was no way that they could use that logo but of course, it was too late....the damage was done. And now they have the most generic nickname ever...and no logo for the time being. They don't even announce the name at hockey games, just call them "North Dakota" because they didn't like having 11,000 booing everytime they said it.

Suddenly, these clowns decide that this is the only way to keep their "heritage of honoring the Sioux!" I think they call themselves, and always have called themselves 'Lakota.' Anyone with a brain knew that there was no way that they could use that logo but of course, it was too late....the damage was done. And now they have the most generic nickname ever...and no logo for the time being. They don't even announce the name at hockey games, just call them "North Dakota" because they didn't like having 11,000 booing everytime they said it.

And of course, the absolute irony of all of this is that no one (of any Native-American ancestry) would want to be called 'Sioux!' Nor would that honor the 'Peoples of the Seven Council Fires.' That of course being that the term is an insult from another peoples, meaning snake tongue, implying that the Lakota are all liars. Exactly : Nadouessioux - 'snake' or 'enemy'.
So in effect this is like whites trying to have a conversation about how they have rhythm.
Kind of like this scene immortalized in celluloid :

Czerwiec went so far as to leave an angry voicemail with the university ROTC office in the minutes following her call to 911 and subsequent phone call with a UND police officer.
"There is no reason in this day and age that you need to do these exercises in the middle of the quad," she said in part of the voicemail recording. "Do them somewhere else. I shouldn't have to work in a terrorized environment."
She said she regrets using profanity in the heat of the moment.
"But I do stand by the things I said in that message, which was that they had scared me unnecessarily and I didn't think it was a good idea for them to be doing the drills on campus while classes were going on," she said. "That I thought that was creating unnecessary stress and fear."
