Book had a lot of flaws that were easy to ignore or gloss over because of the relative strengths of the team in general…He got worse with pocket presence as his career went on. He's been playing football for 8 years out of HS now and he still runs 7 yards out of bounds rather than throw the ball away. Some people just don't have a feel for the game.
Coaches end up being wrong all the time about QBs. Look at Brees/Rivers, Tom Brady needing an injury, hell Cardale Jones over #16 who held that offense back (pains me I can't recall his name, captain, repeat starter).
But saying that he didn’t have a feel for the game is absolutely NOT how I would describe him. A guy that made lemonade out of so many busted plays absolutely has a good feel for the game.
The scrambles for loss of yards rather than throwing it away is maddening, but I’d chalk that up to his fear of turnovers, which basically describes all of the other shortcomings that held him back, too.
But his patented reverse-scramble-to-throw, back-shoulder throws, QB draws, and general freestyle abilities showed plenty of “feel for the game” to me.
