This guy's a unicorn. Every other USC "fan" I've ever met simply starts repping the Raiders when the Trogans take a dump.

That whole post is excellent writing. Respect to that guy. That had humor and gravitas, and I'm legit more amped up for the game having read it.

Go Irish, FUSC.

Agreed. That was one thing that made the Carroll-era so painful. Losing always sucks, but losing to a team with no apparent fanbase (like Stanford) is the worst. USC has seemed to straddle that category as well, since I don't know anyone who sticks with the Trojans rain or shine. So good on him.

Check out the big brain on Bra... er, Chris Arledge. Only attended SC for law school, so his fandom is a little suspect. But I'll allow it.

It's getting colder, Saturday high is 48 with showers in the morning and a low of 39. Winds WSW at 10-20 mph.
I fear the Irish Wear Green effort is going to suffer.
Who cares? I'll take temps in the high 30s/low 40s over a green out vs SC. Those boys have seen green way more than they've experienced temps like that if I had to venture a guess.

Greenore, This is an SC grad trying to pretend he has an ND education. Sad isn't it.

Terrifying!!! Drop him off in South Boston so he can spread his "love" for the Irish and the Catholics. The Faithful in South Bend are too nice.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

The WR corp has me nervous. Chip Long must stay away from the cuteness and keep USC needing to pass. J.O will get home soon enough starting in the second half.

Sounds like he was a fan since childhood...which to me is pretty damn loyal for any fan.

Was that article full, hardcore sarcasm?

My vision is not that good and I read it a few times and my only conclusion is that it is satire. I am not being facetious.

Am I right? Is it sarcasm?

Cheers and Go Irish!!

BTW - I never really hated USC or USC fans until I attended "THE GAME" in 2015. I had never encountered such pretentious individuals in my life... well, maybe at Disneyland a few years earlier.

Definitely laced with a healthy dose of sarcasm. Agree, I thought it was clever and funny.

They'll get their catches and stats - Lea just has to avoid getting beat by the big play. His defense has consistently prevented big plays, including the USC game last year. Daniels was slinging it last year and they still couldn't break a big play and had trouble finishing drives withTDs. It'll be even more difficult for them this year on the road with a lesser QB.

Hard to throw the ball if dline tbagging the qb all night. That's my strategy.

This is the worst advertised "green out" I can remember. Really doubt there's any effect on TV, especially if the coats come out.

What would be a good advertised green out? I can't look at any of my social media without seeing a ND school sanctioned account promoting the "Irish Wear Green" tag. If the fans in the stands don't participate in the green out that's on them. I will say it's foolish not to do a fan giveaway of something green for this game.

Maybe it's just my perception, but only a couple non-student folks I know who are going were aware it was a thing this year. Last year, most of us had already been suckered into buying the Irish Wear Green shirt and planned on showing up in all green by this point.

The whole issue is an overall lack of hype for this game. Michigan was a big game to open the year, this is a game against an unranked foe. So there is just not enough buzz/dissemination of information.

Also, I am reallllllly hoping that the lack of buzz doesn't carry over to the stadium atmosphere and the team's energy.

I really don't see this being an issue. The crowd was pretty hype for UVA and that was an afternoon game. Granted they were ranked, this is our biggest rival, under the lights, and likely our 2nd toughest game remaining on the schedule behind scUM (unless Duke is for real but I think the ACC is just hot garbage this year).

I think everyone understands the magnitude of this game, and the nighttime environment will help a ton IMO. This is USC's Super Bowl now with 2 losses (one in conference) already. The staff will have these boys ready, they know how talented our opponent is.

I think the close game in LA last year may keep the boys from being complacent as well.

When the Irish run out of the tunnel and see that team on the other sidelines, I think they will find plenty of motivation and energy. These should be the type of games they go to ND to play in.

IMO, this will be the 2nd toughest opponent to date (I know that’s not really saying a lot). SCum is without a doubt the 2nd most talented team ND will face this season.

I imagine Lea will run a fair amount of zone coverage. It’s gonna be hard to get to their QB b/c they get rid of the ball so quickly. The onus is going to fall on the ND secondary containing their stud WR. My hope is it doesn’t become a track meet nor a flag show. Not having Crawford makes it an even bigger challenge.

Agree, it isn't like USC is winless or 1-4. Everyone knows they have talent and can be dangerous.

So you don't think our defensive line is going to have an impact? I think they will get to the young, inexperienced QB forcing him to make quicker throws and turning it over. That's the catch with our defense this year. You try to nickel and dime down the field and you will eventually come up short. You try to let guys get open and the DL will get home. You start forcing throws earlier and the DBs will feast. You run and the LBs are now making plays. The apparent weaknesses in our defense have been patched up. SC will be fortunate to score in the teens on Saturday.

I didn’t say they wouldn’t have an impact. I said it will be difficult to get to the QB based on their offensive scheme which is to get the ball out quickly. As you say, hopefully the inexperience of Slovis leads to rushed & ill-advised throws. Turnovers have killed SC and they’ve been attributed to both inexperienced QBs.

Georgia was able to scheme around ND’s elite edge rushers...plus they have a high IQ quarterback in Fromm who is rarely rattled.

The safeties are going to have to play better than they did last week where they struggled w/ missed tackles. Hopefully that’s an anomaly as both are veteran heady players who know where to be.

ND should be the best defense that SC has faced or will face

What I want to see in this game is more Book on the run, i.e. more bootleg, option run, and designed running plays - early / 1st and 2nd drives.

Jurkovec, IMO has proven he can run this offense. If (God forbid) Book gets hurt or injured where he has to sit a few plays, drives, quarter or game, there are two QBs that can come in and make the same plays that Book can.

Plus it will open up the passing game even more.

Georgia also has a MUCH better O line and running game which helped slow or at least help manage our rush. Plus Fromm is on a complete different planet ability-wise when compared to whatever SC puts out there. I get what you’re saying, but the it’s not really close in terms of personnel (other than an edge at WR). For the record I’m concerned about the recent issues with missed tackles by both safeties
