I'm guessing KH's reasoning is that it's a gotcha game that Clemson is overlooking that could be the hiccup. Clemson's going to be on full alert for ND. That's what I took from that conversation anyways.

Was watching the Clemson game and Herbie was announcing. Question came up about who could possibly upset Clemson. Said maybe VT or FSU. Seemed to dismiss us totally.

lol I’d rather fly under the radar, but given the playoffs are half a popularity contest, F*ck Herbie.

Watch ND beat Clemson, lose to UNC, and somehow be the odd-man out of the title game, and then miss the playoffs lololol.

Hoping for an early snow in South Bend

Herbie thinks an Irish win wouldn't be an upset

It doesn't matter what we are ranked.....Clemson will throttle us again as long as we keep recruiting 3 star quarterbacks.

I see what he is saying. He knows Clemson will bring their best against ND, he thinks the only way they lose is a game they sleep walk through. Which we know they will be up to the challenge coming to South Bend.

Hasn't Clemson lost or almost lost to Syracuse twice in the the last 3-4 years?

My initial thoughts: Herbie is tired of covering many of our big ‘show me’ games and seeing us not get beat, but beat down. I bet he’s of the, ‘not until they win one of these’ mindset and frankly who can really blame him??

We were pretty awful at defending the zone read Sat. I can see why we weren't ready as Travis had barely played before their game vs us but it was obvious early that the zone read was a big part of their game plan.

2nd half was as bad as the first. We better figure it out because just about everybody we play has a QB who can run.

Bauer played a lot, it appears he's supplanting White. Somebody has to step up at Buck. Simon got most of the reps, not impressed. Liafau didn't get many reps but when he was in there he went the wrong way often, which is probably why Simon played more.

Don't be surprised if White gets moved to Buck. He's not great but he's rarely out of position. If the USF game wasn't a mirage Kiser will win the Buck job when he's ready to go,

I'm with you, although I think it would be Bauer who is more likely to get snaps at Buck.

With Moala out, we already know Pryor is essentially going to be training at Rover full time, but I'd also like to see Marist focus on Rover again. Also, Lamb impressed in his snaps last year. He's obviously coming off an injury and the staff has determined that he's behind Simon/Liufau/Kiser thus far. But, I would like to see what he can bring to the table in a game situation again.

In general, I really do think it was the layoff and conditioning that is affecting these guys. Reason I say that is because there were just too many players that seemed to be struggling, that usually don't, for it to be anything else. Lacey was pretty poor in gap control. Jayson A. wasn't getting much penetration. White was quite bad. Hayes looked slow and out of control, at times. So, I wouldn't take away too much from that except for a few things.

1. I was keyed in on White and Bauer a lot of the afternoon. It's a small sample size but it was pretty clear to me that Bauer is ascending and at the very least, White, has plateaued. I'd like to see Bauer earn the start and only work White in if Bauer isn't consistent with his assignments and keys.

2. On Buck, I'll probably re-watch some of the game to get a better idea as I was really focused on the MLB's. My initial reaction was Simon flashed early but then seemed to disappear later. And Liufau seemed to play a little hesitant. I think he's still a little light for Buck on early down work. I think Kiser has to be worked into the mix with at least a 50% of the snaps providing he's practicing during the week.

3. Daelin Hayes needs to concede some snaps. His effort is there but he's just slow and not very violent with his hands. Nobody is going to confuse Ade with Jadaveon Clowney but he fires off the ball and is violent with his hands. OL feel him. Daelin is 270 lbs. but doesn't play like it. So, now he's a 270 edge rusher who isn't quick like his 240-250 counterparts but isn't playing with the requisite punch/power that you'd expect from a 270 DE. Through 3 games he has no sacks or TFL. Last year through 3 he had 3 TFL and 1 sack. I was worried about his increasing weight over the last 2 years and I think now it's finally time to realize he shouldn't be playing at this weight.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">FSU WR Tamorrion Terry is expected to miss a few weeks after undergoing a knee procedure. <br><br>Via <a href="https://twitter.com/247Sports?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@247Sports</a> <a href="https://t.co/k08rIsISFn">pic.twitter.com/k08rIsISFn</a></p>— NCAAF Nation (@NCAAFNation247) <a href="https://twitter.com/NCAAFNation247/status/1316419639061237763?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 14, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Travis was 13 of 24 for a touchdown and an interception while rushing for another 96 yards and a score against a defense that entered the game as one of the most dominant units in the country. That production, however, came at a price as Travis was banged up throughout the game. He took multiple shots to the lower body and torso area, and was seen flexing his right hand (throwing hand) while working with head athletic trainer Jake Pfeil in the fourth quarter. ”My hand is doing good,” Travis said late Saturday evening before FSU began its travel back to Tallahassee. “I’ll get some treatment in the morning, I’ll be fine. But I’m learning that I have to get down and protect myself a little bit. I have to do a lot better because there’s hits that were unnecessary today. I just have to work on that.”

My thoughts exactly. He had 19 carries and officially 4 sacks, but there were multiple hits and hurries in addition. He will get killed continuing to go for broke and play a full season like that.

Norvell when asked about Travis in his presser this week: “He was limited there on Sunday, was obviously sore coming off the game. But I think everything is moving in a positive direction and we’ll see how the week plays out.” He has since participated on Tuesday and Wednesday but Brock Prudy’s younger brother has been reported as getting a lot of reps.

“Chubba Purdy (shoulder) has seen “extended work” in practice this week.“ Norvell said the freshman is “progressing well.”

With FSU’s D unlikely to stop UNC’s offense often enough this weekend, losing Terry and a slowed Travis will make it hard to keep up. We may have seen their best shot they will be able to throw for a bit.

We have IE posters who don't want to believe this for some strange reason, but we are a very physical football team, and people feel it. Remember that the QB and Samuel also went to the bench among others.

Agreed, and this is the vibe I got from listening to that clip. He just brushed right over Fowler mentioning ND, didn't even address hit.

Herbie has called a lot of our games in prime time and we've failed to show up. The only game I can think of when we pulled off a game we were underdogs for was OU.

Until we prove it, not surprised the pundits aren't going to say we are a threat to Clemson.

Not to say that I don't believe we can put up a real good fight against Clemson in South Bend next month, because I think we have a shot, but from his perspective, I totally get it.

Agree and it's great. I really think the last piece for this program is to find game breakers who can make big plays against the elite teams. Looks like we have it with the running backs and WR recruiting seems to be trending up.

It also is finally starting to feel like we are closer to having all of these things at once. No longer do we have: a dominant line and good offense with a handful of missing pieces on D. Or an elite D with solid skill players but a QB that can’t get them the ball. We may only have one position group that is top 5 in CFB, but we’re becoming a team that doesn’t have a single group that holds us back from competing with the elite teams.

FSU looks like a different team being led by Jordan Travis. A shame he got hurt against Miami, bet it would have been much closer.
