Tried 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die IPA yesterday.

Anyone else tried it?

Would love to hear your thoughts after you open it.

I had it this weekend.

General thoughts are that it is a great sour ale. If you like the Flanders Oud Bruin/Flanders Red Ale style then this is something that you would enjoy. Notes of vinegar (red wine, a little apple cider and a touch of balsamic) with very tart raspberries and cherries (and maybe a hint of tart cranberry). Very little sweetness to it. My only hesitation with recommending it is that it probably isn't worth the $20 that they are charging for it. While I enjoyed it more than the Rodenbach Grand Cru, I can get a 750ml of the that for $11 or a 4 pack of 11oz bottles for $15.

I also had the Stone Bastard's Midnight Brunch this weekend. A very good beer but way overpriced at $18 for a 500ml bottle.

A lot of West Coast breweries have them as well (The Bruery Humulus Lager, Ballast Point Fathom, Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Hoppy Lager, etc.).

I really enjoyed the Hoppy Lager... but I pretty much enjoy everything SN so....

Well it's a coffee IPA. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not. But it's pretty good. Coffee is definitely there on the nose and in taste. Actually pairs pretty well with the hops. I'd recommend this to try at least. Probably not something I'd drink a sixer of but I enjoyed two.

Have you had any other coffee IPAs and if so what did you think of them? They seem to be becoming pretty popular.

Knee Deep Hoparillo Triple IPA

pretty darn good, real citrusy but not quite as citrusy as a 3F ipa. Taste is somewhat hot but at 11% abv, not too surprising.

I need to finish off some old whisky samples that have been hanging around, some for many years.

First up
Dalmore Mackenzie 1992 vintage. Sample is from 2010

One of the few Dalmore's that I have enjoyed (well since their rebranding). Lots of raisins, dates, and oranges with a nice layer of smoke lingering underneath to keep it somewhat balanced.

Brora 1975 20yo. Damn delicious, and I am very sad to finish it.

Nice waxiness, smoke, wet dog, oats and a little white fruit.

Going through my samples I found 6 bottles labeled just with numbers, but sadly the key is missing. Well time for some blind taste testing.

First up the bottle labeled #1
N: Malt, white fruit (peaches), honey, and oak.
P: Honeyed peaches and nectarines. Some slight oak, and malt. Hints of nutmeg and brown sugar.
F: peaches and oak linger with a touch of smoke.

My first guess is Cragganmore, middle aged (15-20 years), but it could also be a few other Speyside distilleries as well.

Where'd you get these samples?

The first two samples are from about 5 years ago, that I traded with a friend. The numbered ones are from about 4 years ago (trade) and I had thought them lost but found them today while searching for something else.
