The first two samples are from about 5 years ago, that I traded with a friend. The numbered ones are from about 4 years ago (trade) and I had thought them lost but found them today while searching for something else.

Cool beans!

Sample labeled #2. By the look of it it is definitely sherried.

N: Definitely sherried. Lots of almonds, walnuts, raisins and figs.
P: Massive sherry, almonds, walnuts, raisins, figs, dates, oranges, and cinnamon. A little oakiness (pencil shavings) and a slight breadiness.
F: Raisins and oranges linger along with the pencil shavings.

A very nice sherry dominated whisky. Reminds me of a sherried Glendronach (15 or 18yo), or Glenfarclas (15 or 21yo).

Sorry, wet dog?

I know it sounds weird. Mostly it shows up on the nose (sometimes along farm type smells) especially on some non-islay peated whiskies. Benriach Curiositas 10yo is a great example of it (though it is too dominate in that whisky for my taste).

#3 was not sealed very well. Ugh. Smelled like apples and massive smoke. Tasted like like shit. Has anyone every left a glass of whisky out for a day or two and then tried it? Now think about a few years. Rough.

#4 Another sherried whisky based off the color.
N: Raisins, some citrus (lemon?), cinnamon and malt.
P: Raisins, orange, and a hint of the lemon carry over. Malt and a touch of oak carry over. Tastes like a young sherried speysider, 10-12 in age range.

#5
N: Farmy. Lots of dry and wet hay. Lemon, vanilla custard and malt. Some slight wood smoke.
P: Wood smoke is much more noticeable on the palate. Lemon, hay and vanilla are there as well and some oakiness. Peat as well.
F: Peat, wood smoke and vanilla linger. The hay just won't go away.

I really want to say that this is a young Bowmore or a highly peated highland whisky.

#6 Sherried again.
N: Big time sherry. Lots of nuts, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. A little balsamic vinegar.
P: Candied walnuts, raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon. A hint of rubber.
F: walnuts, raisins and a touch of rubber linger. A hint of cherry as well.

Tastes like an older sherried speysider such as Macallan 18 or Glenfarclas 21yo.

I had some Bells Hopsolution yesterday. Really good stuff. Will post my limited notes later.

2012 Guarte Rioja right now. Dry, dark, plums. Needed some time to breathe though, and that always throws me off.

For those that can now get Shorts Brew outside Michigan. Get it, do yourself a favor. Very creative and great beers.

I drank Short's Hopstache tonight. Great beer! Thanks Jackalope!

You are welcome my friend. Tonight I've had 3 Dark Horse Kamikaze Kaleidoscope's and 3 Shorts Beard of Zeus. Beard of Zeus is really good. Somebody mentioned IPL's a while back. This is a hot style. Great flavor, lower abv%. A good IPL should be the new session IPA.

Have you had any other coffee IPAs and if so what did you think of them? They seem to be becoming pretty popular.

Sorry pkt, just saw this. The only other one I've had was Stone Dayman. That was better than the Snake Juice I'd say but not by much. Even so, it's a weird style. I can't say I'm a fan. But I also can't say I'm not. Interesting, different, worth a try from time to time, etc. I'd say if I drink 6 coffee IPAs a year that would be perfect.

Not a problem and thank you for your input. Stone Mocha IPA just released, and I am tempted to grab a bottle or two to try (probably not a whole six pack though).

How was it?

Not the best enjoy by ive had but was pretty good. Nice after tones.

Currently drinking Lagunitas Hop Stoopid. Packs some punch on draft.

I also had North Coast Brewery Scrimshaw. Step Dad's favorite craft beer. (It's been hell getting him off the Miller Light train) in San Fran now so hoping to stop by the Brewery tomorrow.

Bought a New Belgium sampler platter for daughter's birthday party last weekend. The only ones left were "Heavy Melon" watermelon flavored beer. I just finished them, and all I can say is yuck......
