The specific play pointed out was in regards to Studstill missing the tackle on the touchdown. As a safety how often do they engage in shedding blocks and in the meat of the plays on defense? Serious question. Looking at the stats he only had 6 total tackles.
I understand what you are saying especially if it was a LB or DL but does the secondary really get that physically beat up continuously like the front seven would?
No, but I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. I was explaining that it more than likely isn't his cardiovascular fatigue that is the issue. He's a 190 lb. freshman S. Longo has had 8 months with him, and he's expected to play 67 snaps against P5 competition. That's quite a lot to ask on all parties. That's what Kelly is explaining. Now if this was taking place with Juniors and Seniors, which some think it is, then that's the issue. This wouldn't be a good example of that, that's all.
don't forget though he is also on special teams....just because you don't make a tackle doesn't mean that he isn't getting blocked , running from sideline to sideline
I got the impression that Kelly might have been talking about mental fatigue on that particular play. Devin is the last line of defense, and yet he bit on the run, which he had no business doing with a receiver running deep. That's a mental lapse that might occur when a guy is getting worn down, even though he's in-shape enough to keep running and tackling.
I don't usually watch the Tuesday presser. Does WatchND typically show a replay of it? I am interested in this one.
I call bullshit. Not buying it
His words an actions since the start of last season when our D is a dumpster fire. Paired with, what I see as respectable, posters pushing that it wasn't his call.I am curious, why do you think this?
Kelly initiated firing and reached out to Swarwick for his blessing

It is bull.
I don't know if he did or didn't BUT he would be stupid if he didn't.
This is Notre Dame not the NFL, BVG's contract was NOT with Kelly. It was with Notre Dame. And a Notre Dame coach does not have the control that an NFL coach does. Further how many years were left on BVG's contract? He was in his third year at ND. What liability did ND have firing BVG in mid-season? That's why you check with the AD.
When Bob Davie let Joe Moore go, he didn't consult the Athletic Department first. He told Moore that he was too old. Davie dodged the real issue and gave Moore what he thought was a more polite reason. Moore sued for age discrimination. It's the law. Had Davie told someone in a administrative capacity, it would have been a red flag and avoided an unnecessary, expensive, and embarrassing lawsuit. "Whoa, you can't do that without exposing ND to a lawsuit!" They would have asked what were the real reasons. Moore should have been fired for retiring on the job while drawing a full salary, dodging coaches meetings or showing up late, failure to recruit, AND undermining the authority of his former boss, Lou Holtz.
I wasn't saying he didn't consult with Jack first. I am saying Jack made the decision himself.
I agree with the fire and intensity but in a week does the defense suddenly take correct pursuit angles and make tackles they missed in the first 4 games?
Does the highly touted LB (an AA on this board) start making TFLs instead of tackles 5 or 6 yds into ND territory?
Do the DE's suddenly demonstrate that first step burst that blows by OLs and creates sacks?
Does the Secondary which has been playing largely a collection of second stringers because of suspension and injuries suddenly reduce their 40 time by a tenth or three to keep up with WRs?
Does a CB still abandon coverage to bull rush a QB running wide on a QB option, where the QB correctly reads the faux pas and flips a short pass to the suddenly uncovered receiver for a score?
And does Hudson's presence on the sidelines stimulate Special Teams integrity on Kick-off coverage or the OLine's blocking on place kicks and punts, or the OLine start making holes for the "3 headed monster" to run wild?
Like Koon asked, if this your opinion or are you basing this on some inside knowledge?
I already said I didn't stutter.
Bogs or someone like that said it first. I have heard the same thing.
Additionally, why would you praise your coaching staff 2 days before you decide to fire them? You don't gain anything by doing so.

Well that seems like a pretty crucial point. If he hadn't decided to fire him yet, he had nothing to gain by trashing him.
Happens all the time.
I'm just saying the evidence we have points to him not making the decision and I've heard it from an inside source and so have others.
I would love to match tempo with tempo. Though, for whatever reason, Kelly has been reluctant to do that. Kizer looks damn near unstoppable while running the 2 minute drill.

I'm calling bullshit.
Shocking.
I'm tired of people claiming to have inside knowledge.
And your animosity toward Brian Kelly is pretty well immortalized on this board. So what's "Shocking" is that you think that Kelly didn't make the decision to fire BVG.
If Kelly called Swarbrick to talk about it, but didn't make the final decision, then that says that someone other than Brian Kelly could have fired VanGorder last year. I don't recall you complaining about anyone else not firing the guy? Your inside source didn't tell you about that?
