And don't worry about clogging the thread....The fact that we're talking about vampire stories on a Pitt thread is awesome.

What if Devon Street is a vampire

Then he would be the second coolest black vampire:

Cheesus Krist! YES, I understand that vampires are a part of pop culture and therefore should play some role in the education of pop culture. Like I said earlier, if this was a chapter or two in a humanities class of some sort then I'd have no problem with it. But, an entire accredited course? Sorry, but no!

Done with this, back to the actual thread.

Studying the historical context of vampirism with Vlad the Impaler and the societal messages brought through in more well composed stories than Twilight, could absolutely be a viable class. Everyone immediately equates this with Twilight, which is really more revealing to those doing the equating, since Twilight is just some **** tween book series. Vlad the Imapler started it all, and it could be quite interesting to have a course like this on earlier events and the legacy of human consumption, etc. Societal impact and the messages vampie stories convey about modern society is a course I would take. There are epic fantasy courses which shed light on numerous topics, so I fail to see how this would be any different.

Who cares if these kids play, ND SHOULD handle Pitt with or without these kids. They were charged but the whole things sounds kinda like BS to me.

Can anyone tell me when Lou and Mark May make their picks for the week? I'd like to tune in to witness Mark May pick Pitt.

On a related note, I'm actually a little proud of myself for NOT knowing when Mark May is on TV.

They always make their picks on Fridays on Sportscenter. So at 5 CT

I just realized this... is this the first week that we didn't have our opposing fanbase visit us?

Does Pitt have fans outside of Mark May?

Plus Dracula is a classic and vampirism in the book was a metaphor for sex and class relations in the Victorian Era. It's interesting stuff.

Pregame six pack: The 8-0 edition | Inside the Irish

Notre Dame’s defense: The place where high-scoring offenses go to die.

Last night on ESPN, Mark May cited Pittsburgh’s 42-point offensive outburst against Temple as reason for belief that the Panthers offense could put up some points against Notre Dame’s defense. That logic doesn’t look too solid when you consider that six of Notre Dame’s eight opponents scored 40 or more points in the game they played before facing the Irish.

Here’s a quick look at the offenses that stalled out at Notre Dame:
Purdue
Before: 48-6 win over Eastern Kentucky
Notre Dame: 20-17 loss
After: 54-16 win over Eastern Michigan

Michigan State
Before: 41-7 win over Central Michigan
Notre Dame: 20-3 loss
After: 23-7 win over Eastern Michigan

Michigan
Before: 63-13 win over UMass
Notre Dame: 13-6 loss
After: 44-13 win over Purdue

Miami
Before: 44-37 win over North Carolina State
Notre Dame: 41-3 loss
After: 18-14 loss to North Carolina

Stanford
Before: 54-48 win over Arizona
Notre Dame: 20-13 loss
After: 21-3 win over Cal

BYU
Before: 42-24 loss to Oregon State
Notre Dame: 17-14 loss
After: 41-17 win over Georgia Tech

Oklahoma
Before: 52-7 win over Kansas
Notre Dame: 30-13 loss

The opponents that came in scoring 40 or more points have scored a total of 55 points against the Irish, and none scored more than 17.

But that's exactly why it's a useful college course. Going back to Dracula, vampire stories have indirectly said a lot about sexual values, female sexuality, social anxiety around female sexual desire, etc., and now suddenly they are hotter than ever. An educated person should understand his cultural environment, and a course like this will help people understand why vampire stories are so persistent in our culture and where they come from. I am pretty sure that it is being taught all over the country, and I'm pretty sure that people who take it will be able to get something out of it, if it's capably taught.

Not to belabor this and continue to clog the thread, but here's all I'm saying at this point: if you don't accept that any liberal arts courses are worthwhile, like irishpat, that's fair enough and I'm ok agreeing to disagree, as I've made my point about that; but if you do think liberal arts education is valuable, I don't think it's fair to be dismissive of this course.

We get it, you like Twilight.

Just read Mayday picked ND to win. What a pathetic, last-ditch effort to throw a whammy out there.
