This is a dumb question, but can anyone give me the backstory as to why we call BC Frodo??

Fredo not Frodo haha

Godfather reference. Notre Dame : Michael :: Boston College : Fredo

I've always seen other schools refer to "Little Brother" as Fredo, but henceforth I think we buck the trend and start referring to BC as Frodo. They're smelly halflings with hairy feet that live in holes. The Irish are kings of men living in the Ivory Tower. Condoms SUCk is spot on here

Well to be fair...that kind of misses the whole point of the Lord of the Rings. The Hobbits were the ones who were noble enough to destroy the One Ring without temptation to use its power. The lineage of Gondor failed because of their weakness. And as the movie showed, the entire kingdom of Gondor kneels before the Hobbits with newly crowned King Aragorn saying to the halflings "my friends, you bow to no one."

Fredo is still the better comparison. "I’m smart. Not like everybody says, like dumb. I’m smart and I want respect!" That just fits better!

I’ve only shed tears over ND football once. It was ‘93. I was eleven.

I have no love for BC.

Please beat these schmucks by 50 and somehow get them kicked out of the ACC so we never have to play them again.

There will be no taking a dump on the floor of the visitors locker room this year. BC will give a fight for the first quarter. Then the bloodbath begins.

Crush these punks like a leaf.

I rememeber watching back in the Clausen days a BC DLman just bullying the crap out of ole Jimmy Boy. Pushed him down and kept pushing him down when he tried to get up. JC must have been really hated by the ND OL because none of them came to his rescue.

Of course, with the whipping they were giving ND, they probably didnt have much fight left in them. Lord knows they didnt show any all game!

Either way, these punks must be punished for their past sins as well as current and future sins. Bring out the Irishhammer on these clowns and show no mercy!

The whole Fredo = "little brother" analogy is flawed in that Fredo was, in fact, Michael's older brother. So unless we're Sonny in this analogy (which I don't believe is the implication), it's just wrong lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That’s true but I think the name stems from BC being the weaker of the two Catholic P5 teams.

My second game was '02 BC. I was a young, naive tyke and I remember telling my brother "we are ranked #4 and they aren't even ranked so we will kill them," as if ranking mean anything and me having no knowledge of the series history. Fricken Pat Dillingham.

The era I began watching ND football, BC and USC dominated us. Let's keep the streak of dominating these two punk rivals alive on Saturday and bury them early, and continue to return the favor.

lots of misery in this series, but this was great.

I remember this like it was yesterday. My man Deke Cooper. And hell of a tackle by Jimmy Friday.

Perhaps it’s from growing up a Notre Dame fan in Boston in the early ‘90s but I absolutely loathe these punkass wannabes and their dumb Superfans who play at big-time football but only show up for one or two games a year (ours, typically). They consider themselves our rivals.
I hope we destroy them.

Boston College’s entire football tradition=a Hail Mary pass against Miami and a field goal against ND.

Can’t Flutie take a LOA for a week?

Agree...Flutie is a cockoff…"the older I get the better I was". That's how he rolls. if I see him... I'll fight him. He can lick my balls after a bad interview, a filthy workout, a three hour sex session, a brutal session in the sex dungeon. BTW I fucking hate flutie and want to give him a fucking head-butt everytime I see him.

Let me get you a valium. We don't want you having a stroke.

What's the over/under on NBC showing that FG during the broadcast? I'm guessing 2. Once during the intro and another sometime during the game.

Doug Flutie stood right in front of me during the Trumpets under the Dome on the Friday before the USC game. He had never seen it before. He recorded the whole thing on his phone. He was in awe.

A teen was standing in front of him. The teen's dad asked his son to move aside for Flutie. Flutie would have nothing to do with it. And then he took some pictures with the kid after. The kid had no idea who he was!

All of that made me feel like he was a standup guy and very impressed with Notre Dame tradition.

Notre Dame to wear alternate uniforms for Boston College game

According to a release from Under Armour, Notre Dame will wear the “Heritage Uniform,” which honors the 1988 Championship Team.

Mesh number detailing, traditional “Vegas Gold” coloring, striking black Under Armour Spotlight cleats and throwback “ND” shoulder patches are all inspired by the 1988 program.

The tough thing about hating on former BC stars is that no one grows up dreaming about playing there, so virtually every one of them (Flutie, Kuechly, Ryan, etc.) is a kid ND could and should have had, but failed to scout properly.

has anyone ever spurned notre dame FOR boston college? AJ Dillon wanted to play RB, and Kevin Pyne most likely didn't have an actionable offer, but those are the two closest examples I can think of.

Brian Toal was a pretty big LB recruit out of New Jersey in the Willingham years. Ty was a lousy recruiter but the story was he went all-in on Toal right before Signing Day, spent hours in the kid’s living room and like wouldn’t leave. But Toal went to BC like he was always going to. His dad coached one of the big NJ Catholic schools and IIRC, never liked Notre Dame. And BC was pretty good in those days.
As spurns go, it was a big one. Toal wound up being a freshman All-American and Big East rookie of the year, though injuries eventually derailed his career.
