I want to see:

-ND jump up early
-Greg Bryant get a lot of touches (Cam and TF are established, let's get GB there too)
-ND get out of this game without any significant injuries to either line.
-Golson play a clean game turnover wise.

My list would be
-ND wins
-ND get out of this game without any significant injuries to either line.
-ND get out of this game without any significant injuries to either line.
-ND get out of this game without any significant injuries to either line.
-ND get out of this game without any significant injuries to either line.
-ND get out of this game without any significant injuries to either line.
-ND get out of this game without any significant injuries to either line.
-ND wins big

Sagarin's Predictor Model makes ND a 19 point favorite against Navy.

Opened -13.5 in Vegas. Looks like it has moved to -14.5 already.

Surprised it's that low. Navy is probably the weakest team we face this season. Sagarin has them ranked #88 with the 101st Toughest Schedule. They have wins over Temple, Tex St, SJS, and FCS VMI. Sagarin has Temple ranked 71st, the only team ranked ahead of Navy that the Middies have beaten.

They've played to single digit losses in 3 of their 4 losses but only Rutgers is rated better than Navy and not by a lot. AF and WKU are rated considerably lower than Navy. The only TOP 70 team they've played this year was OSU, a 17 pt loss.

Navy is scoring 30.9 ppg while allowing 27.6 ppg. Throw out their big win over FCS VMI, 51-14, which is best offensive effort and best defensive effort and their adjusted numbers are 28 ppg scored and 29.7 ppg allowed.

For a team with a ball control offense their Time Of Possession for the season, including the VMI game, is 30:16 minutes/game. Their averaging 16 seconds a game of possession advantage.

Opponent Result
13 OSU L 17-34
@ Temple W 31-24
@ Tex St W 35-21
Rutgers L 24-31
WKU L 27-36
@ AF L 21-30
VMI W 51-14
SJS W 41-31

Defense can't revert back to tacking like they did against UNC.

They didn't against FSU, did they?

Kelly acknowledged in the post game PCs that UNC's high tempo kept ND from making substitutions that normally would have been made. As a consequence there were players on the field tfor 80 some plays and some of them were gassed. Check the transcripts.

Navy averages 67 plays/game which is a typical number of plays.

Expect BVG to attack the option with discipline and dictate their options, not sit back on his heels like Diaco did with Read and React.

Just making an observation. Didn't mean to offend anyone. Just throwing out one aspect that could hurt ND.

Our defense has tackled well all year long, with the UNC game being the lone exception. Your statement is quite misleading.
Just saying.............that is one way ND could have troubles if they don't tackle.

Navy is in trouble. I honestly think we are in for the biggest beatdown of the Kelly era this week. I say we put up ~60, give up 20 at the most.

I used the bye week to recuperate and I enjoyed my weekend off from football. Ready to get back at it on Saturday. Let's get this thing rolling again and not leave any doubt that ND belongs in the playoff discussion. Looking forward to an injury free ass whooping of Navy. ND 44-13

I have my doubts that ND will run up the score on Navy. I'd love to see them put up 60. I think they could, but I just don't think they will. ND 42, Navy 17.

I agree. If there is one thing I know, is that I would hate to be any team facing Notre Dame after the FSU loss... especially after a bye week.

I forgot what BK's record after a bye week is, but I know its really, really good.

5-1 at ND

2010: ND 28 Utah 3
2011: SC 31 ND 17

2013: ND 14 SC 10
2013: ND 23 BYU 13
2014: ND 31 'Cuse 15

2014: ND versus Navy

Brian Kelly's Record After a Bye Week

"Notre Dame's bye week could not have come at a better time, with more freshman and sophmores playing than ever before. They have had three games to get some playing time and have had a week off to watch film and work on things that need improvement. The offensive line has some questions and Brian Kelly has talked of reshuffling the starters, so the week off has come at a perfect time.

Notre Dame is ready for a game against Syracuse,, which is coming off its first loss of the season, and this game looks more and more like an easy win for Notre Dame, but how have the Irish done coming off a bye week in Brian Kelly's four years at Notre Dame? Let's take a look.

In Kelly's first year as the head coach in 2010 the bye week came on November 6, after a 4-5 start. They had just lost two straight games to
Navy and Tulsa, but they came out of the bye week and beat a ranked Utah team 28-3 and finished the year on a four game win streak.

In 2011 Notre Dame had a bye week on October 15, after a 4-2 start to the year. After the bye week they had a poor performance against USC. Tommy Rees was injured and Dayne Crist filled in for him and fumbled the ball on the goal line which was returned for a touchdown to put the game out of reach, but it was more than just quarterback play, the team looked completely flat and Notre Dame lost 31-17.

We all know that Notre Dame won after its bye week in 2012, because it was the year they went undefeated! The bye week came on September 29, a week after they had beaten Michigan 13-6. The week off gave them plenty of time to get ready for Miami and they came out and destroyed them 41-3, which was their largest margin of victory for the year.

The 2013 season had two bye weeks. The first came on October 12, after a Shamrock Series win against Arizona St. After the bye week they notched another win onto their record with a 14-10 victory over USC. The second bye week was on November 16, after a 28-21 loss to Pittsburgh. The week off gave the team and coaches a chance to recover from the stunning loss and they were able to beat BYU 23-13.

This season there are two bye weeks again and it is hard to survive two weekends without Notre Dame football but Brian Kelly is 4-1 coming off a bye week at Notre Dame. A game against Syracuse might not seem like a big game, but it gives the players a chance to put to practice, what they worked on during the week off, in live action before a showdown with Stanford.

The second bye week will be on October 25 a week after the big game against the defending National Champions, Florida St. The extra week will give Notre Dame a chance to switch gears as they prepare for Navy's triple offense.

The bye weeks seem to be strategically placed and they are definitely working in Notre Dames favor, even though we have to suffer thru two long weekends of watching lesser opponents!"

You didn't offend anyone. The missed tackles against UNC were an aberration not the norm.

I'm more concerned with the defense getting gassed and missing tackles against 85 or 90 plays from ASU the following week than against Navy. Particularly as there will be a bunch of bruised shins, at the least, against Navy.

Collectively this DLine isn't as touted as last year's group but they're healthier and playing well as a unit. I expect Day, Jones, Okwara, and Rochelle in BVG's attack mode to shut down Navy's inside threat leaving Jaylon and Onwualu to clean up on the outside.

We scored a very, very late TD on them in 2012 instead of kneeling. That Toma running play. We snapped it with 46 seconds left on 2nd a 1 from the 9 when we were up 43-10. Toma ran 9 yards and we won 50-10.

In 2011, we beat them 56-14. I don't think BK will hesitate to drop 50+ on them if he can.

Although, I honestly think a lot will come down to where we are in the committee's rankings this week. If we're at 6 or 7, I don't think BK will be concerned with style points. If we're sitting at #10? I bet he goes for the throat whenever possible the rest of the season.

I hope this is a lesser team we don't let hang with us like the last 3 weak teams we played and how last season it was a nail biter.

No injuries. Get Day and Jones out of there early, and just continue to torch their secondary, while getting GB snaps.

I'd be a huge fan of them wearing knee braces against Navy, especially Jones. Day has a lower center of gravity and long arms so it's easier for him to shed cut blocks. Jones is going to have a real fun day keeping linemen off his knees.

I'd like us to get up early and go into halftime up 21-3 then win 35-10 with Malik playing the entire 4th quarter.

I say 35-10 because as much of a jerk as I can be, I don't like to see our service academies take a beat down.

No disrespect to Navy but I hope this game gets out of hand quickly and we can play some back ups.
