I'm concerned about how many of our D-linemen go down with knee and ankle injuries. This is never a good game for injuries

I just wanna see us bounce back and stuff the option. If we don't let it give us headaches, long night for Navy.

We, uh, win.

I lol'd.

I'm concerned as well, but it shouldn't be as bad as it was under Diaco. My understanding is that Navy's cut-blocking is a nightmare for two-gapping DL. Since they're always reacting instead of attacking, they're easy targets.

My hope is that BvG's aggressive 4-3 will better protect our DL by allowing them to attack instead of react. Day, for instance, will be very difficult to cut-block when he's blowing through the A and B gaps faster than Navy's OL can lay a hand on him. But Jones and Rochelle still do a fair amount of two-gapping in BvG's 4-3 Under fronts. If either of them goes down with a knee injury, our prospects for the rest of the season could take a serious hit.

I'm thinking Council has a large role in this game.

Why? He's one of our biggest LBs, and has seen most of his action this season in our goal line packages. Defending Navy's triple option requires more speed and discipline than size, so I'd expect Councell to sit in favor of a faster Nickelback (like Farley). Unless Councell played a lot (and well) in previous years against Navy, thereby giving him an edge in experience/ discipline, but I don't recall that being the case.

Drue Tranquill. Size, speed, intelligent. I see him having a very good game vs Navy.

Fair points. What about James O?

We either play one of our SAM LBs (Onwualu/ Tranquil) or a NB (Farley). I'm assuming it'll be Farley because he has far more experience against Navy's offense than Onwualu or Tranquil, and this game should emphasize his strengths-- aggressive play near the LoS with minimal coverage responsibilities.

Onwualu and Tranquil offer a better mix of size and athleticism, but stopping Navy's offense requires a lot of discipline; I wouldn't put either of them in until the game is well in-hand, simply because they're green and are liable give up some explosive plays.

When was his last game at UGA? Was it before Paul Johnson went to Tech?

I'm not all that worried about Navy's offense this year. Last year it was a concern because of injuries to our DL and other positions, plus we were running a 3-4 which typically is not a great defense to run against the triple option. If our ends can do a good job keeping contain, and our guys in the middle watch for the dive, we'll just have the pass to look for. Easier said than done, I know, but I think we're much better built to defend Navy this year. Being aggressive will help too. Navy is never going to beat themselves, they always execute well due to the limited playbook, that's why you have to attack them.

You never want to play an even game or down to Navy, it plays well into their hand. Get up by 3 scores or more quickly and it forces them out of their element. You let them hang around and they'll wear you down in the 4th.

Just stay healthy on the lines.... please. Navy killed us last year and i believe directly contributed to the Pitt loss.

I want to see:

-ND jump up early
-Greg Bryant get a lot of touches (Cam and TF are established, let's get GB there too)
-ND get out of this game without any significant injuries to either line.
-Golson play a clean game turnover wise.

Let's not forget Pat Ryan's questionable Targeting call against Tuitt.

Think we win this game on offense. Need to score touchdowns every drive early.

Please, please, please be able to get Malik some real time in the offense.

It would be interesting to say the least. His strength coming out of high school (and as demonstrated in the Blue & Gold game) is the read-option. Pretty sure the Navy defense practices well against that look.

But, if he were to get some action, it would mean that we're up a ton [sic] and I'd enjoy seeing him run more of our playbook.

I would love for Malik to get some good reps. EG is taking some abuse. I realize we have a bye week and it's much needed rest for him, but the bullpen needs some action. A 28 pt lead at half and some Malik/Bryant second half play would be my ideal scenario.

Man, I thought that we were going to see Malik against Fla St. when EG headed for the locker room. That scared me. Malik needs to see some real minutes in mop up time. We just haven't gotten to the point where there was "mop up" time. Hopefully Navy!

I know. I had visions of Hendrix vs USC dancing in my head.

Hand to hand combat in the trenches against Americas best. Only time I don't give the 'middies 'their due respect. I think they play this game a tad dirty. I pray no Irish player gets hurt. This will be an ugly game. The off week comes in time to help prepare for the cut blocks.
