We should really be seriously considering dropping Navy from the schedule. It's a lose-lose situation, especially with Georgia Tech tabbed for the future. It was the Navy game where the injuries began piling up, and it directly affected how this season ended. Not only that, but nobody gives us credit for playing Navy. To them, it's essentially a game against Western Carolina.
Sigh!
Injuries started piling up last Spring and continued through the summer. Springmann, et al. Then there were the academic self imposed injuries through incredible student stupidy that robbed the team of a couple of starters, much less healthy bodies. Then there were a number of rehabbed players like Collinsworth, Hounshell, Baratti, et al, who were re-injured. Only 3 starters on defense played every game and that doesn't include the loss of the Frozen Five. Schmidt was lost for the season in the Navy game in a scrum not due to Navy blocking.
Here's a link to an article about the loss of Springmann and the impact of the defense:
Why you should be concerned about the loss of Tony Springmann - One Foot Down
ND beat Navy by 10.
OSU played Navy and won by 17 and the Buckeyes are in the playoffs.

OSU played the 53rd Toughest including Navy and still made the playoffs.
