Almost all teams pray before games. But as far as I know no other school tries to call attention to it via a Jumbotron. It's a way of the school making the prayer be "seen by others," i.e., against the spirit of Matthew 6:5.

No. Matthew 6:5 is about praying in a way that other people will praise the prayer for his beautiful prayer. It does not mean to not pray publicly. It means be sincere when you do pray publicly. Sharing the pre-game prayer is not for the glory of the Priest giving the prayer, it is to show the spirit of what Notre Dame is all about.

OR they want to give the ND community a chance to participate in prayer with the team, and each other, prior to kickoff.

Nah that’s crazy talk. Totally an attention grab. U rite tho.

Seriously, do you even fucking like ND? Be honest. You can't ever find 1 thing to like. EVER. You are insufferable and miserable.

I love ND. I've lived and studied at ND for several years, have a degree from ND, etc. I don't like turning everything about ND into a commodity or putting everything about ND on a giant television.

You guys notice that NDgradstudent has zero things to say about the game.

His first post in the post-game thread is to bitch about a community prayer.

Notre Dame football has always been a commodity. It's what made a small regional Catholic university a nationally known Catholic university that is revered for BOTH its athletics and academics. It's been a commodity since Grantland Rice wrote his article about the Four Horsemen, Hollywood made a movie about Knute Rockne and George Gipp, and again when Rudy was filmed. It's been a commodity since signing a major television deal with NBC.

Expanding the brand has always been a part of Notre Dame.

Postgame Thoughts:
1. Before entering the game my dad and I stood in front of coach Elko's wife. I let her know how great coach Elko has done and that I hope they were here in South Bend a long time. She said they liked it here.
GIVE ELKO AN EXTENSION.
2. USC's first play of the game summed up the rest of their evening.
3. For anyone who attended the game I thought the ND band was alive and rocking the whole night (more so than any other game this year). Props to the best band in the land.
4. I love how this defense unit is gets better and better each week. Someone different each week steps up their game-- Coney and Kareem vs USC.
5. If Josh Adams keeps playing like this, you need to put his name in for the Heisman.
6. I think this team could've played 2 more strong quarters, props to the strength and conditioning program.
7. Good showing for all the commits!

Go Irish!!

I honestly don't think he knows much about football or played a sport in his life. Liked it better when he just bitched about politics. He's the most grumpy, jaded young person I "know".

You hit it on all points..,I haven't seen that stadium in that state ever (been going since '64). And the weather was perfect for all day tailgating followed by great Irish FB.
Irish had an immediate answer anytime SC tried to make it a game. Band was blazin' all night.
Video board was active all night, even thought they cut of our band a few times.
D was flying to the ball. Twin K is my new DL hero.
Receivers don't always help BW...catchable balls that are not caught.
Josh is unbelievable.
Lots of SC fans, but they never were heard from, same for their band.
Wish we could find a TE every now and then.
Great win for team, staff, and fans.

I just watched a piece on USC.com that analyzed last nights beat down .
The asshat supplying the attempt at a analysis refused to give ND credit.
He literally said ND is a nice team but they're not "this" good.
So typical of SC. He just blamed coaches and players which is deserved to a extent but zero props to the Irish. Another reminder why I detest SC, not that I need any more reasons.

Went to one of their boards to see the meltdown, and they had a group convinced Darnold was down on the first offensive play fumble, and that alone changed the entire outcome of the game.

If this is truly your understanding of this situation, then you have seriously missed a huge part of the education you were supposed to have received. Many others would have given dearly to have taken adavantage of (and appreciated) that same opportunity. What a shame that it was wasted on someone like you.

I told my Dad before the start of the game, if ND matched USC's intensity early on, created a turn over and capitalized on it, went up early we would break their back. We did that in spades! 28-0 first half the whole stadium new it was over.

USC committed to the run on the first drive of the second half and scored. took 5 minutes off the clock. This really helped the Irish. We took 4 minutes on our next drive and scored. Margin of victory was still the same as the start of the half with 2/3rds of the 3rd quarter gone.

One thing I noticed is the USC band sat way up in he corner of the stadium. I never really heard their fight song the whole game. Glorious! The other thing I didn't notice was the USC cheerleaders... the Irish were so dominating I did not even glance in their direction...first time that's happened since the Bush push game.

Took my wife and daughter to the game and ND never loses when they go. So, they are going to the NC State game next week...just to make sure...

It was so glorious going to church and around town afterwards in full ND gear... I'll just leave it at that.

Just to clarify, you're not using the correct terminology. A commodity is something that is differentiated solely by price. You don't want to be a commodity.

Notre Dame is a brand.

Best performance of the BK era. I do not like the guy but this season has been an incredible improvement . Elko's defense, a run oriented offense, and vastly improved strength and conditioning has made for a remarkable turnaround.

I do believe this team feels they can be different, or are determined to do so. They aren’t satisfied with big wins against rivals, they want it all. Now is that attainable, maybe not, but that unrelenting belief will take them pretty far. At least that’s how I feel right now. It’s everyone, at all times, that’s on the field.

After rewatching, Daelin Hayes was such an animal. Even when he wasn't making the play he was forcing USC to deal with him

He’s a special player. Only getting better. That sophomore DE class looks like it’s going to be scary good. Kareem is really coming on and Okwara is playing as well as anyone.

Answering USC's scores with TD's tells you all you need to know about this team. Another game and more improvement. Wimbush took another step in his passing game as well. Coney made a statement to start. Big run up the gut of the defense and USC can't catch Adams. Kid runs like Eric Dickerson.

I see no let down next week.

I was at the Miami game. Everyone stood and prayed along with the team. I thought it was AWESOME

I also saw a dude literally ripping on the fact that a guy took a puppetry class as an elective, saying that was indicative of ND's bad academics. Literally this was the hot take of someone rooting for the school where Leinart took nothing but ballroom dance one semester so he could focus on football. Can't make this shit up.

He is truly a horrid human being. Really the worst of society. Y’all know I’m pretty anti-permaband, but in this case, screw him. I’m glad he’s gone and what great timing to pull the trigger.

I love that Lion called his shot and then it played out exactly as stated. How the fuck you can be a "Notre Dame fan" and have literally zero positive things to say after a historic beatdown of a rival AND #11 ranked team in prime time is a non-starter.
