Honestly the sex scene wasn't as weird as I would've guessed. That opening scene, yeah it's great.

Saw the new Spider-Man movie. Was very good, probably not as good as Homecoming though

I've got a list of almost 300 movies that are favorites, classics, must-see, etc. that I'm trying to work my way through. I just finished watching The Last Picture Show (1971). Jeff Bridges, Timothy Bottoms, Cybil Shepard, Cloris Leachman, Ben Johnson, Randy Quaid, John Hillerman, and Ellen Burstyn. Johnson & Leachman both won Oscars for their roles in it. That was a seriously good movie that exceeded all my expectations. I never knew Burstyn was that good looking back in the day.

This sounds cool, I’d rather revisit all the old classics that I missed than try to keep up on the new blockbusters,... those just don’t move me at all anymore

That's exactly where I am. So many newer hit movies don't hold up over time or aren't really worth jack once you get past the hype. Too much flash and special effects, and not much plot or quality acting.

Movies for the most part just suck anymore. It's either too strong on effects, or too strong on politics/message. It's all about quantity now days to fill up on-demand, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc..

Saw it last night really enjoyed it as well. I don't know how well it will hold up to multiple viewings though. QT's stuff never gets old for me, but I could feel lots of slow spots, especially in the middle, that I will feel like skipping if I watch this one again.

SPOILERS

I liked what he did with Sharon Tate. The subversion of not including her at all in the Manson murders really held the tension because I was waiting for the other shoe to drop the whole time. Watching it again though I think the Tate stuff is going to feel super unnecessary knowing there's really no payoff for her character.

The final act though is prime Tarantino. I lost it when Leo came out of the tool shed with that flamethrower lol. I also loved how they didn't force the dumb cliche "best friends get in a fight that drives a wedge between them only to reconcile later on" plot. Leo and Pitt were best buds, and they stayed best friends throughout.

Also saw The Art of Self Defense tonight. It was pretty good. I thought Eisenberg was going to just be playing himself based on the previews, but he actually brought quite a bit to the role. The main character is super insecure and weak and he really sells it. It gets dark but didn't have as much comedy as I was hoping for. Overall it was fun, probably a soft recommendation. Not something you have to run out and see in the theaters, but certainly worth the watch when it hits whatever streaming service it will end up on.

Also the main antagonist dick karate teacher reminded me so much of Bryan Callen and I couldn't help picturing him in that role the whole time. He would have added some more comedy.

Another day, another masterpiece by Tarantino. The guy's filmography is unassailable.

I watched The Usual Suspects tonight. It's a Kevin Spacey movie from the 90's. Heck of a good crime drama/psychological thriller movie with a bunch of twists & turns and a great final twist.

Yeah! Maybe I'm dense, but I never saw the final twist coming. Now I've gotta watch the whole thing again knowing what's really going on. Really good movie. Spacey's got some serious acting skills.

Not dense at all. Just the subsequent viewings makes you kick yourself for not picking up on it...at least i kicked myself, pretty hard.

Also, Shutter Island.. I've seen it about 20 times, but it wasn't until the third viewing that i had a breakthrough on the true ending of the movie. Mind blown, unless i overanalyzed.

Always thought Del Torro stole his scenes but I tend to think that about all his movies so maybe I’m just a fluffer with my man,... but I love his scenes in US,... he pulled off ‘mumbles’ very well

Our idea of classics may differ, but that’s why I love Turner Classic Movies. Great acting that doesn’t rely on special effects because there aren’t any! Lol

Love TCM. I find myself watching a lot more old, than new these days. I was into a lot of the old black and white oldies, but I think I burnt myself out on those for a while.

The good thing is, the quality of TV/Cable has gone way up, and good series are easy to come by. I still find myself watching some of the older TV shows occasionally. I've been doing a slow re-watch of Miami Vice. Love that show. Been thinking about the original Star Trek as well.

Thought the ending was him getting "In" with the new Hollywood which is what he wanted the whole time to boost his career.

I think Pitt had the better of the story lines

Exactly. You're not overthinking it and most people missed it. I've had a conversation with many friends and none of them picked up on what was happening.

True ending? Am I missing something, too? At the very end he knows what's going on but he doesn't want to live with the memories of what happened to his family so he pretends to be the detective so he can get lobotomized...

I'm watching There Will Be Blood (2007). This Daniel Day-Lewis guy isn't a bad actor.

TWBB is a movie I would call perfect. For what it was going for and the message it was trying to tell, I don't think it could be improved.

No argument here. It's one of the best movies ever in many ways. Every bit of it was well done and you're right... hard to find much you could improve.
