That's not like a reg thing everywhere?? I always assumed it was... every week there is a showing of a 'classic' at each of our local theaters...

Well we've got the Drafthouse and the other theaters around here show classic films pretty frequently, but this whole series has been going on for years. It used to be either free or very cheap and has a double feature every week. We also don't live where the movies are being made so...

I'm a classic movie junkie. Particularly from about 1931 - 1955. I watch TCM all the time. I would love to have a theater around here show a classic once in a while.

Doesn't the IMA have a movie film fest thing?

We have an old timey cinema downtown. They play old/indy movies all the time.

Who would have thought Fargo was on the cutting edge of vintage entertainment...

"The Untouchables." I watched this movie a million times as a kid. I haven't seen it in a while, and it's funny what you notice as you get older. For instance, David Mamet wrote the screenplay. Bearing that in mind, I noticed that the movie had this small scope. So many parts of the movie are very reminiscent of a stage play. I think that fits director Brian DePalma's style. He's a very studio type director. His films look like movies shot on soundstages, even if they're on location. That's not a criticism, just an observation. But it's interesting to contrast the tightly focused writing and direction with Ennio Morricone's soaring, epic score. It's like Morricone was scoring a much larger scale movie. But it all still works. Great movie.

Is it really vintage or does it just take that long for movies to get to Fargo?

Aldo: "Welp, I speak the most eye-talian, so I'll be your escort. Donowitz speaks the second most, so he'll be your eye-talian cameraman. Omar third-most, so he'll be Donny's assistant."

Omar: "[Confused Look] ...I don't speak Italian."

A: "Like I said, third-best... Just keep your fuckin' mouth shut. In fact, why don't you start practicing right now."

That movie has such an odd place for me... it had a couple of GREAT scenes, some funny dialogue like above... but as a whole it was so fragmented and just kind of all over the place that is was hard to like in total.

I actually think it fits together in its fragmented state better than some other Tarantino films... or maybe not better, but still feels more linear than other films, like it's a chapter book.

I love Pulp Fiction, and I think the fragmenting/overlap makes it brilliant, but it's also more extreme in how disjointed some things seem. Same with Hateful Eight, though that's not nearly as good as Pulp Fiction.

Inglorious Basterds has almost endless replay value for me, though. I could watch it every night and not be bored.

To each their own... I saw it as a couple of great scenes thrown into an otherwise pretty shitty movie... it just felt disorganized (not in a Pulp Fiction way, despite not being linear PF was still never felt fragmented or disorganized) and the ending was horrible... it's easily my least fav Tarantino flick among those I've seen...

I felt the same.

It was a movie that relied on suspense and dialogue, but didn't do either up to normal Tarantino standards. And that's a shame, because the cast was awesome (as it always is).

61* was amazing.

Roger Maris is one of my all time favorite Yankees. I can remember taking his and Mickey's baseball cards and making a little mark on the back each time they hit a home run that season. If Roger had come up through the Yankee system, he wouldn't have taken so much crap while chasing the Bambino's record. I also think if Mantle hadn't gotten hurt that season he would have also passed Ruth that year.

"The Fury." A 1979 flick about telekinetic kids and shady government agencies that want to harness their powers. People liken it to "Carrie" mostly because Brian DePalma directing both movies. I think it's more like a precursor to "Firestarter." It's not great, but it's worth watching as one of those funky period piece films where a lot of random, weird stud happens.

Wow...I remember that one...Kirk Douglas, Andrew Stevens, and I think Amy Irving...its been eons since I saw that. Loved the paranormal flicks of that time period.

Cc: Wiz and any other Pirates fans. Wasn't sure if this should go in the Comic Book thread or here, so it's here

I knew Jack was essentially labeled a "pirate" for being a decent dude, but the depth of the plot's background is actually impressive.

The ladies in my life all want to go see Wonder Woman tomorrow... they're buying me a rib eye dinner from our local high end steak house to get my to come along. I have super low expectations for the movie and will get a free steak out of it. We shall see.

I saw it last night. It was not at all what I had expected, though I admit that I'd not bothered to read anything about it.

I thought it was quite good.

I only wish that I had gotten a rib eye. All I got was a ham and Swiss Panini and a domestic beer!

Bon Appetit! and enjoy the flick.

You're getting a steak dinner and you get to watch Gal Gadot wear not too much clothing for 2 hours. I think the ladies in your life are treating you remarkably well.
