Here's the thing. Ultimately, you have to believe that Hopkins--and not the Oregon coaching staff, or high school coaches, or parents, any other plethora of boosters, and most importantly Barnett's own feelings--was the reason why Barnett flipped to the Ducks.

Hopkins doesn't have to be the proximate cause of Barnett's flip to justify this. He's a Regional Analyst at 247 who insinuated himself with the family at a very early stage. If, as our sources are reporting, he was actively undermining ND and shilling for Oregon, that's: (1) a recruiting violation; (2) a pretty major violation of journalistic ethics; and (3) a serious slap in the face to every BGI subscriber. Why should we, as ND fans, be supporting a private company that is actively seeking to undermine our interests?

And why should we, as ND fans, be embarrassed that Lax and others are trying to be heard on this issue? Consumers try to organize boycotts in response to bad corporate behavior all the time. This is no different.

If this was nothing more than an attempt to scapegoat Hopkins for an otherwise legitimate decommitment, then you'd be right. But people far more connected to the program than you have indicated that there's a legitimate beef here.

I didn't ask you to prove anything. You are the one asking for information, not the other way around. You also are the one accusing all of us for being niave/stupid/ridiculous.

So again... if you feel so strongly about this, then why don't you take the onus yourself to get educated on the situation. You keep saying that you do, but it's quite obvious to the rest of us that you do not.

member with you guys for numerous years and I bring up a valid concern as
did numerous Irish fans about the integrity of one of your so called
journalist and your response to me is "Thanks for the support and you hope
I return", here's a thought why don't you address our concerns and give proper feedback to a paying customer who has been a loyal paying customer for over 3 years.

That's all I really care about in this situation. You seemed pretty adamant about it in the recent past and now it seems like you're kind of back tracking.

It's too bad because I do agree with a lot of your critiques of 247 and specifically with how Hopkins handled his business, BUT, if you really don't believe he did unethical things then what do you have to stand on in this boycott other than Hopkins was an ass on Twitter?

My point is even if you're a Hopkins truther that thinks he had sparkly clean hands in this and doesn't pimp Oregon to anyone... his conduct after the fact in and of itself is grounds to never pay another dime to that network when coupled with JC Schurburtt, etc. and the myriad of other anti-ND unprofessionalism that has come from that network recently. And there is no debating or "sourcing" that JC got on the radio and showed his true colors with an epic anti-ND rant that he had to publicly apologize for, there is no ignoring that Hopkins openly gloated and trolled over Blake Barnett decommitting, etc. Why would any self-respecting ND fan give their $$ to a network that employs people like this in power positions when you could give it to someone else?

And that's fine. I don't anticipate any calls to lynch those traitorous ND fans who haven't given up their BGI subscriptions. If you deem your sources to be more credible, then good on you. But as LAX pointed out above, this boycott can still be justified by Hopkins' unprofessional trolling of our fan base after the fact. So regardless of where you fall on the recruiting violation issue, there's no reason to call the boycott "embarrassing" or to be arguing against it here.

A trainer ended up being important in EV's recruitment... and you don't think a regional analyst for a major recruiting network who promised the Barnett family he'd get Blake exposure and ingratiated himself with the prospect, the family, and his coaches could have a serious impact?

I will reconsider when I see the results of the reprimand that you are insinuating is taking place with Hopkins. I and others aren't about the de-commitment, we are furious with Hopkins gloating on a Notre Dame board as well as his conduct. I will join 247 again when I see him removed or heavily punished and an apology until that happens, I will take my business elsewhere as I think any ND fan should. Last night Justin Hopkins got into arguments with anonymous users on Twitter following the Barnett news and let his emotions get the best of him last night. It was unprofessional and unacceptable and that's not how we conduct ourselves here at 247Sports or who we are trying to be as a media organization. It was dealt with this morning and Justin was reprimanded by us. We take these situations very seriously. I ask those members who are upset at Justin, please do not take it out on Lou, Dan, Tom, Andrew and Steve, the people who I know work very hard every day to bring you the very best Notre Dame team and recruiting news.
