It's not looking great right now

Westphal is leaning UM, Garrett leaning OSU and Jones leaning OSU plus we aren't even recruiting Mikale Wilbon right now

Best best is Weishar and Smith right now

Garrett has virtually no chance of qualifying for ND. We are likely to take only one RB next class and there are btr prospects on the board than Wibon. Same case with Weishar and Smith. I want the best prospects regardless of geography. Don't want someone from Chicago if we have a better prospect from somewhere else.

I still think we should be showing a little interest in Wilbon since he's teammates with Jones and if we strike out with Michel, Starks, etc we can go back and offer guys like Wilbon or Jones who are both top RBs still

We are in great shape with Hood, who I think is better than all of them with the possible exception of Michel. Further, RB is not going to be a major need in '14. One solid prospect should suffice.

He needs to be a huge priority, we have to lock up Chicago. It's our backyard, losing players there, let alone notmevenputting in a big effort to get them, is totally unacceptable.

Why is this the case? If ND is going to be assembling Top 10 recruiting classes year in and year out, getting players from an area that doesn't have good football compared to the rest of the country doesn't make much sense. If anything, ND should be recruiting the best players wherever they are. And generally adding their own 1/2 star to any 3 or 4 star player from a state with good football (TX, FL, CA).

Signing local players is nice and all -- it makes for good copy. But if Tyler Eifert was from Alaska he would have still been the most prolific TE in ND history. Purdue wants to secure the best local talent. So does Michigan State. I doubt Alabama really cares where their best talent comes from.

I agree with this to a point. When you have these recruiting services projecting higher ranks for these players around us you need to go after them hard.

I want Hood because he seems like a great fit, personality wise, for ND. If we're not going to get a super stud player then you might as well take the really good player who is a perfect fit.

Just my opinion, but I think Hood is a super stud player. Love this kids film.

Ty Issac is the first reason that comes to my mind.

The reason why you want to sign local players is that it is MUCH easier to hold onto them if things go south. Long before the USC implosion I made a comment about them going for so much OOS talent being VERY risky if things went poorly and doubting they would hold onto everyone.... and that prediction turned out to be more spot on than I ever could've guessed.

When you recruit someone OOS then you have to worry about all of the local schools hounding them 24/7 and the local pressure to stay close to home. This doesn't matter if you're the national champs and recruiting a kid from, say, Kentucky... but even with a great year it can be hard to hold onto a kid from a hot bed state (TX, FL, CA) if there is a local school also having an awesome year.

So yeah... most people believe you should recruit inside-out. Identify local prospects with top tier talent and try to sign them and then move on to OOS talent as necessary. Urban Meyer doesn't think so... he doesn't care at all where his talent comes from even in a pretty darn talent rich state in Ohio. Brady Hoke does think so... and the reason why Michigan's class didn't implode last year is that so many of their players were from Michigan and Ohio. So there are definitely different perspectives but I'm always MUCH more enthusiastic about an early commit who is either a lifelong ND fan or local than I am about one from a big time football state where we have to hold off teams for 12 months.

Big, raw and fun to watch!

Looks like a corked bat out there.

I would bet his sr tape looks very different in technique.

If he has a great work ethic and is smart the sky is the limit.

I want!!

Per his twitter account he will make a decision before his senior season and will narrow his top 5 in the summer.

What makes you guys think he's an OSU lean? Did he hint to them as his leader after visiting one of their junior days?

Also Wiltfong and others have said so. I wish I felt better about our chances but I just don't see it. Maybe it is because we keep whiffing on every kid out of Chicago.

We really do, lately. It wasn't that long ago that we got Fleming and Filer in the same year. We need to get back to that.

At least you didn't mention Martez Wilson because I have never been more sadden about a recruit picking another school.
