Way too early top 25 from ESPN

Yes, and judging on the total unknown is any better? Especially calling for 9-10 wins on recruits that you're not entirely sure of?

Show me your crystal ball. All you can do is use history to make educated guesses about how things are going to turn out.

And you can either have high expectations, Low ones, or somewhere inbetween. I'm sticking in between from now on and will remain a realistic fan from now on. We're not National title caliber, but we're not total garbage...we're Sun Bowl.

I don't intend to attack your personal opinion for the record.

What a freeking JOKE! We should not even be close to the top 25. If I were to rate ND from a 1 out of 10 scale (10 being the best) they would get about a 5.5!!!! This team is NOWHERE near good enough to be considered the 22nd best team in the country. They should be around the 40-45 spot.

Don't buy into the hype every year people. We will NEVER EVER win, let alone play in a National Championship. It's just not gonna happen. So be happy with mediocrity because that is as good as we can pretty much get. Oh and btw, have you seen the schedule for next year? LOL..............7-5 here we come.

The only thing we will be ranked #1 in is graduation rate and last time I checked that doesn't win a national championship.

I was 11 years old last time we won a championship, I'm 35 now. That was 24 years ago. Sad.

I agree with some of your post...But not the "NEVER EVER win" part.

I think we can get back there. But you're right, we're not the 22nd best team in CFB right now.

No worries, buddy!!! I don't take offense to anything on this board.

My friend, I welcome all opinions and we can respectfully disagree while in a heated debate.

Not a chance...It might be fairly low scoring, but Michigan won't score more than 2 touchdowns and I like this because Denard will be roughed up and worn down by the time we play him
If bama remains so damn good you could see a UM team that is happy to play poor little ND...

just sayin

Something will probably agree to disagree on. No quality QB, no RB depth, LB core very weak sans Te'o, no depth at the CB spot.

Weis left Kelly with the #1 QB prospect in his class Dayne Crist, No RB depth??????? Armando Allen, Robert Hughes, Cierre Wood, Jonas Gray, and Theo Riddick= No RB depth?? I obviously agree with there being know depth in the secondary, but LB's I dont agree with you, they were struggling to absorb a new defensive scheme, by the end of 2010 Brian Smith, Kerry Neal, Manti Teo, and Darius Fleming looked like a pretty decent looking group of linebackers IMO, Not elite, but definitely far from "Very Weak". Weis had also signed 2 of the top 8 MLB prospects in 2008 Anthony McDonald(#8) and Steve Filer(#4), they just never fulfilled their potential.

Not everything can be blamed on Weis!!!

I dont see us ranked this schedule is beyond dumb . I watched the game last night and we are miles I repeat miles from either of those teams .

Go re-watch the first LSU title game in the Super Dome... against OU... THAT game will blow your mind... No Notre Dame team I can ever remember played like those six units did all night long... I shocked me when I saw it again over the summer...

last night was two good units dominating, and four very "eh" units added to that....

but yeah... ND has miles to go... M.I.L.E.S.

I thought, contrary to popular opinion here, that Weis was a fantastic recruiter. He just wasn't good a developing talent at the college level. Nor was a fit as a head coach. He's an offensive genius. That is all.

Was that the game where the number one team in the nation racked up an unbelievable 92 yards of O?

LSU scored less points in 2 games than 5 of Bama's previous opponents did in one game ( this includes teams like Penn State and Georgia Southern ). The only teams that scored less points in one game where Vanerbilt and North Texas.

Call me crazy but it would be hard to do less than LSU did on offense. I think ND's offense could score at least 0 points against Bama's D. Maybe a few more than that.

why create all these excuses not to win already?

because the are legit???

Like ACamp said, because they are legit. Are you kidding me? These are not "excuses." Excuses are what you blind koolaid guzzlers live by. Rational people can see that there were some major flaws with this past season's squad. Their record is indicative of those flaws. If those problems are not addressed and corrected, then next season's squad will be just as mediocre and you will once again be spewing out the excuses and playing the "what if" games that annoy myself to no end.

Well then, thank the good Lord we've got you and Acamp here to preach to us how dumb we are to go all in on our team. I feel I'm now a better person for having seen the two of you post about how mediocre we're going to be and preach it as gospel. :jerkit::jerkit:

If the turnovers under control i can see this team go 10-2/9-3, forour top five opponents, an andrew luck-less stanford will be quite capably beat i find, and im pretty sure we can beat michigan, or get lucky with one of the top 3.

ND definitely doesn't belong in the top 25. And even if they are ranked in the real preseason poll, I'm sure they'll find a way to get knocked out of it. Seeing as how I hate michigan more than anything else, I'm sure they'll get hideously lucky and somehow beat Bama and then come lay a whipping on ND at home. Especially if it's a night game at ND - we know how well our boys do with hype. Whatever - if they overachieve and get 9+ wins, I'll be extremely happy. If they fail, as I expect, it's not like it's anything new.

Aren't you a ray of sunshine

Try to tell me with a straight face that the team that could only put up 16 on Pitt and Boston College could score on Bama when LSU couldn't. Bama D is a wee step up from service academies.

I never said that, but I'm not on here intentionally bashing my teams offensive capabilities

"negative points" #ndnationworthy

How is that bashing the team's offensive capabilities? The fact is, our offense was awful against every good defense we faced. Even MSU, our offense wasn't very good. If not for GAIII and Blanton, who knows what could have happened. Bama has a better defense than any of the teams we faced this year, by a large margin. FSU's defensive rankings are close, but their competition wasn't as stiff (and even then, we only scored 7 points against FSU, thanks to an incredible effort from Floyd to wrestle away what should have been an easy interception). When I said, ND's offense would score negative points, I thought it was pretty obvious that it was a tongue-in-cheek remark. But it takes no stretch of the mind to assume that ND would be shut out by Bama, and it is not "bashing the offensive capabilities".
