How is it that a school like Tenn didn't have a list of catching replacements BEFORE firing Butch?

United way would have to cut the salary for their CEO ($1.2M) - tons of hospital administrators would get it too. I don't have a problem with this one bit, I would probably take it down to $500,000. So many of these non-profits are really salary machines for some rich AF folks.

How Stephen M. Ross' gift to the University of Michigan ended up in tax court
(Detroit Free Press)
On his way to becoming the University of Michigan's largest donor, Stephen M. Ross and a group of business partners donated a collective gift to his alma mater.

In return, the partnership claimed a giant charitable tax deduction: $33 million.

I thought I read a week ago (maybe longer) that if jimbo left FSU would have Kelly on their short list of replacements.

it's going to be a package deal with lou holtz and lee corso coming to ND and raining hell on Saban, Myer, and the rest of the untouchables. 80 is the new 50.

Probably wouldn't be a terrible hire, he'd recruit well probably even better than now.

Bottom 10 ends with perfect seasons and Tennessee Volunteers once again in Coveted Fifth Spot

Source: Bret Bielema to receive $11.8 million buyout to pay off final three years of contract

Former Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema will receive an $11.8 million buyout to pay off the final three years of his contract, a source familiar with the situation told ESPN on Friday.

Some members of Arkansas' board of trustees tried to argue that the school owed Bielema between $5 million and $6 million. Bielema's attorney, meanwhile, wanted the full $15.4 million buyout. But the sides agreed on the negotiated settlement, which should be executed in the next few days, the source told ESPN.

The Razorbacks are expected to focus their coaching search on Auburn's Gus Malzahn, a former Arkansas assistant coach. Arkansas officials announced earlier this week that the school had hired DHR International to conduct its coaching search.

The Razorbacks are expected to contact Malzahn after No. 2 Auburn plays No. 6 Georgia in Saturday's SEC championship game in Atlanta. If the Tigers defeat the Bulldogs for the second time this season, they'll likely be among the four teams playing the College Football Playoff.

Malzahn, who has a 45-20 record in his fifth season at Auburn, is a former Arkansas high school coach and was head coach at Arkansas State in 2012. He was the Razorbacks' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2006.

In his first season at Auburn in 2013, Malzahn guided the Tigers to a 12-2 record, SEC championship and an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game, where it lost to Florida State 34-31 on a last-second touchdown.

Bielema, 47, would become the fourth FBS coach to receive a contract buyout in excess of $10 million. UCLA's Jim Mora ($12.275 million), Arizona State's Todd Graham ($12.26 million) and Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin ($10.46 million) also are scheduled to receive sizable buyouts after being fired in November.

If the Razorbacks pay Bielema the negotiated buyout, the seven programs from Power Five conferences that fired their coaches during the past two months would be scheduled to pay more than $69 million in contract buyouts. Tennessee's Butch Jones ($8.125 million), Florida's Jim McElwain ($7.5 million) and Nebraska's Mike Riley ($6.63 million) each received buyouts of more than $6 million.

In some instances, the fired coaches have negotiated smaller buyouts with their former employers. For instance, McElwain received a $7.5 million buyout rather than the $12.9 million buyout he was owed after Florida officials threatened to fire him with cause.

UCF just won and Frost was asked if the reports of him going to Nebraska were true and his response was “I’m going to go celebrate with my team”.

Pretty sure that’s a yes.

Has the new Tennessee AD hired head coach Phil Fulmer yet?

AutoNepotism...???

No, simply a case of ...

When Tennessee was having trouble finding a coach, I immediately thought they should probably hire Fulmer again. He was about as close to the Lou Holtz of Rocky Top as it gets. He was their last truly successful coach, even if things started to get away from him at the end of his tenure. There were a lot of contributing factors in that decline I think, namely the rise of the SEC West, but the Vols would probably be glad to get back to the 9-3, 10-2 seasons that Fulmer routinely created.

Now that he's AD and they've whiffed on their previous coach searches he has a tough task in front of him...unless he does something crazy and make himself the head coach.

In some ways UT is following ND, just 10 years behind. ND won it all in ‘88, UT won it in ‘98. Both of their championship winning coaches fizzled out the last few years and many were glad to see them go. Poor coaching hires and recruiting culminated in their worst seasons ever, ‘07 for ND, ‘17 for the Vols.

Maybe we can get them to hire Kelly.

Gotta think either Arkansas or Tennessee makes Mike Norvell a richer man this week.

Why would Gus want to go to Arkansas over Auburn? Serious question. Is he being forced out of Auburn?

No, not being forced out at all. In fact, they just agreed on a huge deal today. However, Gus is from Arkansas and was a walk-on at Arky. It's his home territory. As for Auburn, he probably has felt a little under-appreciated recently and wasn't thrilled with the hot seat stuff over the past couple of years. Auburn's athletic department is a mess and has been for years. He didn't get along with outgoing AD Jacobs. Maybe the new AD will be better, but there's still a lot of uncertainty and chaos. If he'd gone to Arky, he'd have been the big fish in that state, whereas at Auburn, he's probably always going to play second fiddle to Bama.
