I am pretty sure Kyle McAlarney got charged with weed possession as well and he was suspended for the semester.

I hope this does not happen to these players as well.

That was also nearly 10 years ago, and many ND athletes since then have been caught with marijuana and not been suspended. Based on recent history, I'd be very surprised if they receive such a draconian punishment.

I wonder if this is one of those things where they are all getting charged with possession because no one fessed up... or if they all agreed to possession, so they could split the amount five ways and lower the offense?

It says all 5 were charged with weed possession

...ok so they found 5 bags with each guy's name on them????

I'm guessing no one claimed the weed. So is there some strange arm's length deal that applies here too if no one claims it?

I was hoping the person who actually owned the weed would claim it, and we could move on.
...one bag of weed is owned by all 5...how......unless they all chipped in money like a case of beer or something???

None of this makes sense to me...just wondering how all five got popped for one "thingy" of MJ.

That kinda makes sense...I'm wondering the same stuff...someone somewhere knows why they are all getting popped, and I presume they are all OK with it...

With Redfield getting the gun violation, we shouldn't have to worry about the rest getting expelled because of a felony gun violation.

If five ND football players get expelled for weed violation there will be chaos in the streets of South Bend and I would love to tee bag everyone who made that decision.

From what I've heard they were hotboxing in the car, which would make sense why everybody got charged with possession as well as why the car got searched, leading to the gun being found.

They weren't hot boxing the car, no weed was even being smoked.

...Brian Downing strongly advises against it.

is it quite possible they all chipped in to buy a bag with the intention of smoking it together?

I would imagine, they were on their way to spend the weekend away from campus at another college to slang IU chicks and party with frat boys.

Since this happened off campus, what business is it of the University in the first place? I could see a team punishment but would ND even know about something like this if it were a non-athlete and not in the news?

I got fined for Failure to Check In Before Entering the Field during fall turkey season junior year, technically a firearms offense, and nothing happened to me.

My university has a rule that if there are more than two members of the institution together off campus, whatever happens is still considered university business legally. It allows them to take action in instances of criminal activity, dealing with the institution's "image" and whatnot, in addition to whatever legal consequences arise.

It could be that the person they bought it from is an informer and notified the cops that they'd just purchased from him and all five were involved with the purchase. Might also explain why they got pulled over.

More likely it's what GBDomer said.
Norte Dame will involve itself in these things because it can. Though, TBH, any school would involve itself in five football players getting arrested, certainly once it goes public. Too much reputation at stake.

Spot on. I'm not gonna name them, but I know at least 8 players that were busted for weed in the last ten seasons and none of them even made it to media or punished. These are just facts.

Yeah, my understanding is that resident life has been starting to chill out with the college experience stuff.
