Holy crap - how do you field half of a DII team against a top 10 opponent? Maybe the coach set them up so they wouldn't be broken in half for the conference action.

This DII shit has got to stop - seriously take a bye week and play 10 or 11 games instead of this crap. Stats for those games should not count.

Yeah thats the college football factory teams for you. Always looking to boost stats by crushing high school teams. It was worse when it was the bowl eligible times...I remember teams losing to every team on the schedule with a pulse but still being bowl eligible 6-5 by scheduling 4 cupcake OOC teams and winning two bottomfeeder conference games.

to someone else's question my initial post was in regards to the ball state stuff a few years past.

and yes crusader it is receiving improper benefits, technically. and yes, i believe a lot of college athletes were guilty of the same actions.

High, my names Crusader and I'm a recovering book seller.

Did the same thing, EVERYBODY did it at every DI school I know. We were allowed to sign up for 21 hours and forced to drop 2 classes (Freshman could only take 5 classes so as not to be overwhelmed, you could do 6 or even 7 if you got clearance as an upperclassmen which a lot of football players did in the spring). This enabled you to get a feel for which class fit your semester better. We then got books for all 7 classes. Smell what I'm cookin'... Ka-Ching. Selling 2 semester of books would net you an extra $300-$400 a year. The real money maker was selling your extra Air Force One's to the frat boys for $150-$200 a pop.

Didn't Nelly and the St. Lunatics teach you anything?

You hoard all of the One's.

Man that story is a bunch of bullsh*t.

A bunch of players were told to use their leftover book allowance to buy other stuff from the bookstore to use for classes, which is par for the course at any institution that gives out loan, grant, or scholarship deferments (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

The students are supposed to be able to use that money however they see fit towards academic supplies. Some institutions even cut the leftover money as checks and turn it loose to the student to go into their bank account for whatever use they want. In the end, that money was either (1) theirs to keep from a scholarship or grant or (2) going to be repaid as a part of the loan anyway, so if they keep the whole deferment, they're just going to pay it back like the rest of the loan.

I understand that the rules are probably different for student athletes and any deferments that they get, but that's extremely messed up, IMO, especially when I'm sure they didn't know any better and when they were directed by University employees to use the leftover deferment money.

This is awful if true (the players account).

Cripes. I have to pay the loan back anyway, it's my money!

Yes!

I'd even get a check for the left over on my loans in my last 2 years. Bank.
