I don't have the schedule so please feel free to drop it in here, but with Fall practices beginning today (for now), I wanted to kick off this thread. I know local media isn't welcome today and if/when they will even be allowed into the facility, but any nuggets of information you guys can share I'm sure would be greatly appreciated.

I'm interested to see the WRs and who will emerge early. Not a lot of proven production at any of the WR spots but I think most would agree the depth is there and we have a lot of pieces we can move around. I think Braden Lenzy and Ben Skowronek stand to benefit the most from Austin being out for the next month to develop rapport with Book. I also think Lawrence Keys III is poised to have a strong season from the slot. I think he can match or exceed Finke's output this year.

As far as RB is concerned, I hope Jafar is healthy and ready to roll, and please feed Tyree early and often. I want to see the ball in that young man's hands. We have plenty of other guys who can pass-pro; no one at the position has his skill set.

I'm stoked for this defense, especially at the first two levels. Clark Lea in year 3 has a TON of potential and should lead the way for the Irish in '20. Depth at CB might be the biggest question mark on defense but our starting lineup looks poised for a big season on the back end, hoping they can stay healthy and give some of the youngsters at corner time to develop. Certainly not a shortage of bodies who have been in the system for a couple of years backing them up, though.

Rant over, hopefully fall camp proceeds and we can talk some real football. Go Irish, beat Duke.

I’m really curious what the pass rush will look like. We lost a ton of good production off the edge.

I'm really high on Hayes and Ogundeji. I thought they were both very productive in 2019 with their somewhat limited snaps. On top of that, I think DT will continue to progress. I'm very optimistic about the DL on the whole. Plus, JOK just got better and better as 2019 went on.

Once again, the interior LBs are my biggest worry. I thought White did reasonably well last year but he's a guy with clear strengths and weaknesses. The staff seems pretty high on their group of guys; I just hope one of them is ready to make the leap.

I think you could make the argument that Hayes was the best edge defender for the first month of the season and Ade the last month. Now they just need to put it together for an entire season. Plus, they’ll have a combination of young talent in Botelho/Foskey and two guys that have been in the system for a bit in Ovie/Justin A. I’m excited about this group.

Our interior rotation should be fantastic. My concern is the depth behind Ade and Hayes. And as good as those two are, they arent Kareem and Julian.

Foskey looked pretty good with limited snaps. Hopefully he develops a bit. He could have used spring ball.

I’m really curious to see the development of Justin and Jayson Ademilola. They always seem to produce but you never hear anything mentioned about them.

Further review of the roster:

Isaiah Robertson isn't listed, likely an oversight on our part as he actually wasn't listed on the ND spring roster either: https://und.com/sports/football/roster/

-There is a total of 87 scholarship players (not including Colin Grunhard) and 32 walk ons
-2 medical scholarships will be awarded in the next month (Mabry, Gibbons) or the staff is aware of a COVID concerned player or JD Bertrand's scholarship isn't renewed

28 Griffin Eifert WR 6-1 195 Fr. Fort Wayne, Ind.

-Wanted to point out the younger Eifert for those who weren't aware

Not to pick on you but your comment just spurred a thought in my mind. I've read posts on here and 247 as well as podcasts that Bertrand's scholarship might not get renewed. If I recall correctly, Bertrand and Liufau both never visited officially and came with the promise of getting scholarships at a future date - but with the full intent of honoring with a 4 year scholarship.

Any one in the braintrust want to chime in as to why that would change or provide additional insight? I also thought the reports about his performance last year were mostly positive with only some drawbacks on athleticism.

Also, COVID concerned players would still count against out 85 I believe. I do wonder if there will be a one year waiver or increase to the scholarship limit due to players possibly wanting to stay longer because of the uncertainty of the season, the next draft, inability to transfer to certain schools that have shut down fall football, etc.

I'm excited to see if Nana can make some noise in this group as well. Should be very capable of keeping everyone fresh.

I haven’t heard anything on him losing his scholarship. But, with all the other shit going, I honestly haven’t even given a second thought to scholarship numbers. Does the 87 include Robertson?

Losing Kevin Austin is kind of devastating. He was the one guy with true “alpha” potential. I think you will see some of the freshmen immediately compete for PT, and I think Lenzy is the biggest beneficiary for sure... might double his targets in the early weeks.

The 87 doesn't include Robertson.

I just threw out some other unfounded possibilities. By far the most likely direction is a couple medical hardships the staff has been aware of, like Robertson, for the past 6 months.

I might be wrong on this, but I think he is currently projected to be back after a couple of games? If the ACC ends up pushing the season back a little more (I know they just put a schedule together, but the SEC and Big 12 decided to push back an additional 2 weeks beyond the ACC) Austin might be ready to go very early in the season

Yeah current timeline is 6-8 weeks from the surgery I believe. Surgery was end of July, so that would bring him back anywhere between Duke on the 12th and Wake on the 26th (ND has a BYE on the 19th). So if all goes well he could be back before FSU and Louisville games.

O'Malley said the similar on the II pod a few days ago.
OK, so what if 4 OL go down at once or the whole WR room?

Stuff's over, at that point.

How many have to self quarantine if there is a positive after everyone's been practicing for two weeks?

IIRC, Bertrand would have been off scholarship because he qualified for an exception for an academic scholarship. Kiser was kind of in a similar situation with that scholarship he won and could also be a possibility to be off scholarship if it looks like that is the situation.

Liufau was different in that he was just going to grey shirt if we didn't have room that first semester. So he was never going to be enrolled and not count as a scholarship, unlike Bertrand and Kiser who might have been able to be on the team and not take a scholarship spot.
