I'm just an average IEer so I don't pay attention to college football in general. When I have nothing better to do on a fall Saturday I typically turn on the ND game in the background and try to stay awake while waiting for my herbal tea to brew. (My real passion is the WNBA.)

I just want to thank Koon for alerting me to the fact that our coaching staff is so ahead of our competition from a strategy perspective. With no elite, 5-star talent we play what is generally considered a top 5 schedule and somehow have been the playoff hunt/NC game in 3 of the past 6 years. This is really good because I'm told only like 4 teams make it in on average. Really ipmressive work by Kelly and Mr. Van Gordon.

Like I said above, I don't know how football works because I don't really watch it (TOO CONFUSING). But I like when we win and I like the NBC halftime show with the "I fight" tv spots. It's just really comforting to know that despite the fact that we are never recruiting at a top 10 level, we somehow find a way to win occasionally.

Go Irish! Beat Michigan State!

This right here is why IE is such a special place... where else is a guy like me going to find such like minded people???

You guys sometimes ask me why I, a Bama fan, am here on a Notre Dame board. Well this is why. You and Greyhammer. I'm not really into the whole CFB thing either. I just like the colored uniforms and all the pageantry. Well, that and the sweating. I love autumn.

I bet the best part of the CFB season for you three is the Tournament of Roses Parade

Agreed, if by uniforms you mean spandex.

We have been getting the "Rolling with the Alabama Tide" (fall camp) Documentary out here in Australia on ESPN. Got to admit I am enjoying it immensely.

It's pretty interesting... a lot of behind the scenes stuff, personalities, etc. Did you see that dining room in ep. 3? Lobster. They serve lobster. Then they talked about how many hundred pounds of shrimp, steak, wings and bacon they went through every week. They serve enough food to feed a small country.

Kirk is my favorite analyst across any sport on any network, you can tell he's very knowledgeable and loves what he does, and he gets unfairly dumped on because of his days in Columbus. He moved his family out of Columbus because he got dumped on for being "unfairly critical" of his alma mater:

https://collegefootballtalk.nbcspor...keye-fans-force-herbstreit-to-move-from-ohio/

The only fan base I know of that doesn't respect him for the most part is scUM because of the above; they know he went there and are blind to anything else regarding Kirk. I think he's a great color analyst and love him on Game Day.

He's a pro's pro.

No, It's because the other guys are constantly homers toward the sec, B10.. etc.. Kirk just wasn't very good In the CFB playing world and decided why pick favorites when they didn't pick me... He's playing politician.

Yeah the kitchen is amazing. I assume ND's is the same. I've been impressed with how intelligent some of the Alabama players sound. Damien Harris sounds intellectual.

Jamele Hill reportedly taking a buyout with ~$2M left on her ESPN contract.

I wonder what kind of dirt she has on ESPN or her superiors that she's getting a buyout and will be free to work immediately, whereas everyone else basically has to hang out in limbo or find a new job and forfeit the money ESPN owes them.

From FoxSports.com

Jemele Hill, the ESPN commentator who has made controversial comments about President Trump, is leaving the sports network, according to reports.

A buyout of her reported $2.5 million-per-year contract has been completed and her last day will be Friday, sources told the New York Post.

The separation was due to Hill's desire to be involved in politics, while ESPN wants to be apolitical, the Post reported.

She wants to be involved in political commentary, which is completely fine.

I'm just wondering why ESPN caved and gave her a buyout, rather than making her wait in limbo like they did with other folks.

I'm glad she's gone. Cannot stand her. The only ESPN personality I hate to listen to.

Did they cave or did she come to them? Given they aren't making her wait in limbo, my guess is she approached them meaning the buyout could be much less than the $2M left. The amount is probably in relationship to how much she wanted to leave and how much ESPN wanted to get rid of her.

Then why did you listen? lol

I don't. I have no idea what podcasts she does (if any), or what show she does.

If my daughter's life was on the line and I had to get it right, I'd be lost.

But whenever the TV happens to be on and she's there, I just can't stand her.

It's an interesting phenomenon. People say they can't stand Stephen A. Smith either, but their inclination is to watch him and yell at the TV or rage-tweet about him. The people who don't like Jemele Hill just literally turn the TV off.

She made 2.5 million??????????? No wonder they had to lay off a million people.

It's because Stephen A. Smith is a caricature when he's on TV, so it's that whole "I love to hate him" thing. He's annoying, but in a way that's entertaining enough that you tune in so you can think of all the ways you'd refute his arguments.

Jamele Hill is just a bland TV personality. There is no incentive to tune in if I'm going to be bored when she's saying whatever she's saying.

Stephen A is in the same boat as Colin Cowherd. Most of it is just mouth breathing, but they’re interesting enough, intelligent enough that you listen anyway, at least sometimes. They create interest, even if you disagree with them.

Jemele Hill is just ignorant and reckless on most topics, and an overly-sensitive race/women’s right proponent, and makes drama when there are other attributing factors for the “unfairness” she's parading around.

That is the part that most people can't comprehend, myself included. I just don't see how she was ever interesting/good enough to merit anything close to a seven figure contract. You should be able to hire five pretty good people at half a mil each to provide so much more content than her at $2.5M.

Hopefully it is a sign they realize the need to be non-political, shut up and give me highlights, scores and news. Most likely she just went too far, flew too close to the sun and got burnt.

My theory is that Stephen A. is annoying but has enough unique characteristics that he is easy to mock and imitate, which makes watching him fun, because it's like being in on a punchline. "Kobe is a dear friend, we've shared many bubble baths together. "

Hill is annoying and is completely unoriginal in her schtick. For Rstings: Interesting/likeable = Great (Van Pelt), Boring/likeable = Good (Herbstreit), Interesting/Unlikable = good (Bayless), Boring/Unlikable = Bad (Hill)

I agree with this. The Skips, Stephan A's and Cowherd's of the world can at least be entertaining at 1:00pm when nothing else is on. And they have guests on frequently that add value and will debate them. Jemele made me want to turn the TV off and any guests she interviews or talks to are just people that agree with her.

Yeah, people with distinct mannerisms or a shtick often draw loud criticism (Stephen A., Berman, etc.) but at their core they're "entertainment" and it works. That's how a lot of drive-time radio hosts get their fiefdoms... for example, Mike Francesa might be the king of all distinctive radio idiots but his mannerisms fit perfectly with the kind of sounding board his market wants and he crushes ratings so good for him.

Jemelle Hill literally has no talent. She has less talent than anyone I've ever seen on TV, period. There is no one thing that she even does "well"... it's all just bland, below-average television. She isn't funny, she isn't original, she isn't particularly insightful, she doesn't have presence... it's just a joke she even has a job much less was making millions of dollars. And before being a failed TV personality, she was a below-average writer.

If you're bored, you change the channel. I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did. Really all of this just shows how terrible Skipper was at his job.

And the reason they're buying her out and letting her walk is that 1) they don't care about her going somewhere else, unlike their actual talent they laid off 2) I'm sure they are scared shitless of the racism/sexism wrongful termination lawsuit you 100% know she would have filed.
