Disabled their comment section, because 99% of it was critical. Pussies....
I already thought it was funny they shielded certain (Jemelle Hill, The Undefeated, WNBA) stories from comments in the past. This is full-fledged foolishness.
I don't think it's that deep in terms of avoiding the "critical."
I think it's because 99% of it was useless trolling.
Any Notre Dame article with a comment section became "Brian Kelly killed a guy" or "That Notre Dame player raped that girl," regardless of the actual topic.
Any SEC article has batshit insane comment sections that devolve into "Ya'll are cheaters because [event] happened."
The only useful and slightly manageable comment sections they had were the comment sections hosted on game preview/matchup pages. If there was a pregame breakdown on USC vs ND, showcasing stats, history, venue information, etc., THAT is where you would find the 14 reasonable people on an ESPN comment section, because they legitimately had to seek it out to talk about the game.
