Disabled their comment section, because 99% of it was critical. Pussies....

I already thought it was funny they shielded certain (Jemelle Hill, The Undefeated, WNBA) stories from comments in the past. This is full-fledged foolishness.

I don't think it's that deep in terms of avoiding the "critical."

I think it's because 99% of it was useless trolling.

Any Notre Dame article with a comment section became "Brian Kelly killed a guy" or "That Notre Dame player raped that girl," regardless of the actual topic.

Any SEC article has batshit insane comment sections that devolve into "Ya'll are cheaters because [event] happened."

The only useful and slightly manageable comment sections they had were the comment sections hosted on game preview/matchup pages. If there was a pregame breakdown on USC vs ND, showcasing stats, history, venue information, etc., THAT is where you would find the 14 reasonable people on an ESPN comment section, because they legitimately had to seek it out to talk about the game.

Yeah, I don’t think I ever saw a comment section attached to a Notre Dane story that had more then five comments that didn’t include some vile comment about Catholics or ND being a bunch of pedos...

Nothing to do about ESPN but was an article found on it talking about message boards I found interesting.

Message boards from TexAgs to TigerDroppings keep college football weird

ESPN shouldn't of let Brett McMurphy go. That guy is a pro. The entire article on Urban, no unnamed sources. The dude did his research and put everything out there... They should show this article in journalism classes

McMurphey was on Clay Travis's show last week talking about ESPN and the story. Another blunder by ESPN. McMurphy will be joining Fox Sports as soon as his contract is up.

fair dues to McMurphy though he played the situation out beautifully

Heath Evans going all on twitter today to try clear his name lol

He's going after the shield.

I wonder if they're scrambling to get more hush money together for him, or if they're preparing their own offensive against his reputation.

Bryce Love, Nick Bosa highlight Kirk Herbstreit's 2018 season of The Herbies

You have to almost go out of your way not to include anything whatsoever about Notre Dame (a preseason top 20 team) in something like this. C'mon Kirk--at least give the band some love.

If I am blind and missed something I apologize to Kirk...

Nope, I was thinking the same thing. It seems like anytime they do a category section like this, ND gets left behind. We could have 10 All Americans on the roster and we'd hear first how great Miami's OL is....Miami of Ohio.

We have been getting the "Rolling with the Alabama Tide" (fall camp) Documentary out here in Australia on ESPN. Got to admit I am enjoying it immensely.

2015 - KeiVarae Russell, Joe Schmidt, Malik Zaire
2016 - Nyles Morgan, ESB, "Student Section"
2017 - Brandon Wimbush, Mike Elko, "Suprise Team"

I know people like to dump on ESPN, but Kirk Herbstreit is not the hill to die on. The dude is a pro and he's very fair to Notre Dame.

Kirk is my favorite analyst across any sport on any network, you can tell he's very knowledgeable and loves what he does, and he gets unfairly dumped on because of his days in Columbus. He moved his family out of Columbus because he got dumped on for being "unfairly critical" of his alma mater:

https://collegefootballtalk.nbcspor...keye-fans-force-herbstreit-to-move-from-ohio/

The only fan base I know of that doesn't respect him for the most part is scUM because of the above; they know he went there and are blind to anything else regarding Kirk. I think he's a great color analyst and love him on Game Day.

He's a pro's pro.

Kirk is one of the better ESPN guys, no doubt. I was simply pointing out that it's almost impossible to not include ND on a list like that. So many options.

You're not wrong. ND was also left out of ESPN's Top 100 players list I think.

Top 50, but you're correct.

ESPN: Zero ND players in the top 50.
SI: One ND player in the top 50.
NFL.com: Zero ND players in the top 50.

It's not ESPN's anti-ND bias when most sports media outlets agree. Maybe we just don't have that much elite talent.

Top 50, but you're correct.

Sports Illustrated did a top 100 and we only had one in the top 50 (Coney #43) and two overall (Tillery #60).

That's not ESPN bias, that's "hey maybe we don't have that much elite talent."

This X1,000.

98% of IE'ers don't realize how much talent is on other teams because they don't pay attention. We don't get elite, 5-star talent, and there are teams that do believe it or not.

We have one 5-star on the roster in Kraemer, correct? And he was only a 5-star on one of the 3 sites IIRC.

Yeah, too bad we don't have elite talent like Florida Atlantic of Buffalo....

Yeah, because recruiting sites coming out of high school are 100% accurate.

This is a ranking of players that have produced at the college level and are either breaking or living up to the hype. Many of these players have to be judged on not just their body of work, but the difficulty of the opponents they face and how they fared against that competition. The fact Tua Tagovailoa made it into the Top 50 on his body of work in PART of one game warrants him to be included in ESPN's Top 50? Ridiculous. Alabama has shown in the past that they can start just about anyone at QB and be successful, and that fact is only emphasized by how Tagovailoa was able to be inserted into that game and win. Do I think he's a pretty good QB? Sure, but not Top 50. The same case can be made for Shea Patterson, Kyler Murray, and Dwayne Haskins. There's 14 QBs in that list, and you can't tell me that at least one of those guys belongs over {insert whoever you think our best player is}

I'm just an average IEer so I don't pay attention to college football in general. When I have nothing better to do on a fall Saturday I typically turn on the ND game in the background and try to stay awake while waiting for my herbal tea to brew. (My real passion is the WNBA.)

I just want to thank Koon for alerting me to the fact that our coaching staff is so ahead of our competition from a strategy perspective. With no elite, 5-star talent we play what is generally considered a top 5 schedule and somehow have been the playoff hunt/NC game in 3 of the past 6 years. This is really good because I'm told only like 4 teams make it in on average. Really ipmressive work by Kelly and Mr. Van Gordon.

Like I said above, I don't know how football works because I don't really watch it (TOO CONFUSING). But I like when we win and I like the NBC halftime show with the "I fight" tv spots. It's just really comforting to know that despite the fact that we are never recruiting at a top 10 level, we somehow find a way to win occasionally.

This right here is why IE is such a special place... where else is a guy like me going to find such like minded people???
