Kaep was FA because he was demanding $10mil/year and a starting gig at the start of free agency. Now he's changed his demands... after the draft, after most teams already signed their backups.

The media is working overtime to get him signed now because it's good for their business.

EDIT: lol she didn't even know Pete Carroll was the head coach and called him the GM... but yeah, we should listen to her football opinions...

We really are just two or three years away from ESPN/FS1/NBCSports/CBSSports being nothing but computers writing stories by putting game data into pre-made templates.

The exceptions will be the big TV personalities, who remain employed and eat 98% of the salary pool that used to go to actual writers, and occasionally put out a column.

All of the think-pieces and written content that requires work and talent will have to be independently produced.

I already await the day where the greatest college football writers, who had been let go by their employers, band together and create a "vintage" newspaper, mag, and/or website, and sell to subscribers. People will quickly tire of computer-generated game recaps that have zero personality, and will turn to the old timers for help, not realizing that they've basically and inadvertantly just revived the newspaper industry out of a sense of "nostalgia" and in a quest for "vintage" sports coverage.

Basically, the hipsters will have to save us some day.

With that said Manfred is focused on all the wrong stuff...

-Replay is horrible right now, it takes WAY TOO LONG and often gets the call wrong any damn way.
-the INT walks thing was so stupid
- If you really want to make the game move faster then limit the amount the pitcher and batter can leave the mound and or batter's box.. what happened here is the Tony La Russa style of slowing everything down, it was effective but became the norm rather than the rule. don't let the batter leave the box during an at bat, how about that... Don't let the pitcher walk around the mound in between every pitch... to me this solves just about every issue the detractors complain about with baseball...

but first we have to focus on important stuff, like INT walks and what to do with the all star game.

Your spot on about the box/mound time. No brainer indeed.
I think they will do that but probably go farther. I've heard a lot about them messing with the count, pitcher change rules, # of innings, etc..

I'm just glad the Cubs got one before they go and screw with it.

I hope not, but I would not be shocked. Mike and Mike actually talked about it yesterday (I think it was yesterday, maybe it was this morning). Greenie I think mentioned dropping to 7 on double headers. Again, hope they don't.

I wouldn't be upset it they took the count to 3-3 though. Always wondered why pitchers got more balls than batters got strikes. Fair,,, Baseball is where you can get cotton candy after all.

Hockey is way more action packed with limited interuptions yet it's not gaining popularity like soccer so I don't think that's the only variable.

Baseball is still awesome, Imo.

Personally, one of the main reasons I've become more interested in soccer is due to the nonstop action. Perhaps as I age my tolerance for constant breaks for advertising has severely diminished.
I haven't missed a Dbacks game all year and almost root for blowouts one way or the other so I can be done with a game early.

Exactly this. Get the ball. Throw the ball.

I didn't realize how much hockey is considered a sport for white people until they touched on it a bit in the "Best of Enemies" 30 for 30. In that respect, hockey is facing an uphill demographic battle in this country.

I was going to say the same.
It's also IMO a sport that just will hold firmly in most warm climate towns. Kids don't grow up with easy access to ice.

It already is. MLB is only popular in one or two countries, really.

Soccer is a global phenomenon. The fact that America is not onboard with it says more about American fans than it does the sport.

When I have some time I would like to see the attendance number in comparison to capacity of the facilities. MLB has been building smaller stadiums lately, but I would bet that MLS attendance is closer to filling their stadiums than MLB.

The comment was in regards to this country though... soccer is by far the world's biggest sport if we are talking global and I'm a soccer fan, but this talk like soccer is over taking baseball in this country by like next thrusday... no. In fairness though baseball is popular in far more than 'one or two' countries.

I guess soccer has overtaken basketball....

anyway, the MLS is doing a great job of growing here and I'm prob this board's biggest MLS fan (and really one of the only few, period). I just don't buy this baseball death narrative that is so popular with the talking heads lately. It's stuck in an odd regional position after steroids and a decade of nothing but New York v fauxston from these same tards that are now beating the death drum. It'll eb and flow back as it and other sports have done numerous times.
