Interesting, I've actually watched the whole thing. I thought it was generally considered that Clay Travis is a douche? I never really listened to him much before, but that video makes sense. At some subconscious level I'm sure I already knew the message, but I never really thought about it. When you really break it down, liberal thought has crept into so much of our media it's becoming the norm. Conservative opinions get attacked just because they're conservative, and even if they're perfectly acceptable they get thrown back by liberals as racist, homophobic, sexist, etc. It's become the rallying cry...don't like what someone says? Just call them an a word ending in "ist", even if they're not.

Yes, he is.

Clay Travis has two distinct personas (because he's smart):

1. Troll provocateur for clicks/views. He does this because it's proven to work for "personalities." See below:
Cn_x-KFWgAUNE3s.jpg:large

That image is from when Brian Kelly grabbed David Grimes by his shirt. Yes, there headline was "Kelly to jail"... for grabbing someone's shirt.

2. Discerning and thoughtful sports mind.

It's very obvious when watching/reading/listening to him which hat he has on. I don't respect him because his default is #1 and he's beyond obnoxious when he's in that mode.

I like Clay Travis, until he starts talking about how fast his audience is growing and how Fox is starting to take a big bite out of ESPN. He's trying too hard to validate himself. Just talk sports. If I like you, I don't care if your rating is crappy or great.

It also fails the common sense test. Every time someone drops their cable package, they're dropping FS1 right along with ESPN.

That's true. My hunch is that Clay is talking about radio. Mike and Mike is ending, LeBatard is a joke, Rusillo and Kanell are done, then you have Bomani Jones.

Fox Sports radio goes Clay Travis, Cowherd, then Doug Gottlieb.

When i listen on iheartradio, it goes Travis, Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen, Gottlieb.

Yeah, but ESPN is by far the most expensive cable channel: it costs 5x the cost of the next one on the list. Obviously you know ESPN better than me, but don't decreasing cable subscriptions hit ESPN harder than other channels?

Hopefully. That's what you get when you alienate your true base and instead try to cater to millennials and make your network more into a sports TMZ than what got you to where you are.

It's not just cord cutting though. It's not just subscriber loss that they're worried about.

Their ratings for non-live-sports have also been going down at a rate that can't be chalked up strictly to cord cutting because there isn't a corresponding, proportional down tick in their live sports programming.

I listen on my way to work from time to time but haven't watched in a long, long while... Golic has lost a TON of weight, man.

Golic definitely doesn't like what's happening, but he enjoys the paycheck so he's biting his lip.

Jake going after ESPN is funny, but I hope he understands that his actions can definitely impact his dad and brothers futures.

Days after Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, two ESPN employees who happen to share the same first name, officially announced that their radio show Mike & Mike would be ending this year, a new report from Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated suggests that there might be more to the Mike situation than meets the eye. Deitsch’s sources spoke of a relationship between the Mikes that has soured, to the point where the two only talk to each other during the show.

The Mikes’ listeners (and big Mike’s son, Jake) might have been disappointed by news of the show ending, but the report suggested that division of the Mikes is so severe that the program may go off the air before its scheduled end in December:

Multiple ESPN staffers, including current and former employees who have had roles with the show, told SI.com last week that the once-warm relationship between partners Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic has turned icy over the last year, prompting a number of ESPNers to predict that the show will conclude long before this December’s contractual end. The sources said Greenberg and Golic are not talking to each other off the set—and hardly at all before the show or during commercial breaks.

Through an ESPN spokesperson, both Greenberg and Golic declined comment.

“It’s really a poisonous atmosphere right now,” said one longtime ESPNer who has worked on the show. “Most of us don’t see the show lasting through its contractual end [which is believed to be the end of December]. But I give both these guys immense credit because when the light comes on, you would not know what’s going on. They are pros on air.”

“They are marvelous actors on set,” said another ESPN on-air staffer, who speaks to both Greenberg and Golic. “But they barely even make eye contact with each other these days.”
An end to Mike & Mike might be the best course of action for all Mikes involved.

Greenberg is a pretentious wanna be activist that thinks he's meant for bigger things that talking sports, so it wouldn't surprise me. He tries to take every sporting event and try to talk about how it impacts the bigger social picture, to the point he's become annoying for years now. Always liked Golic, and I think I'd like him bias aside.

I know it is not a popular opinion, but I like Greeny, yes his takes and his attitude sometimes has him on this pedalstool looking down to us common folk, but I think he is a very good drive radio guy and he is seamless with hosting. I think he will be very successful in whatever he does, and I will def check out an episode or two of his tv show

I wonder if what you're saying contributed to the break up? Golic wanting to keep the show based on the sports side and Greensburg wanting it to become more social commentary. If true Greensburg is in the wrong business. People are attracted to sports as it is an escape from the daily political and social turmoil we see everyday. ESPN needs to figure that out asap or Wiz is going to be hitting us all up for a job.

i think there's a place for it but the issue is Bill Simmons already been there and done that and Greeny was just a imitation of this. TBH I can't watch the show as its just really dull. Golic Jr being on ESPN is a joke and pure nepotism. He has the charisma of a cardboard box
