The problem with gameday is that they've begun to think too highly of themselves. Rather than talking about the actual football, the national landscape, and putting some focus on wherever they are that week, Gameday has just become three hours of them patting themselves on the back, laughing at their own inside jokes, and generally acting like bros. The most emphasis they place on "where" they are is the local food that gets made and handed to them on set. They don't actually care about the home stadium or crowd anymore.

The actual CFB content has suffered because Gameday has simply become a platform for the hosts and their personalities, rather than actually focusing on the day of games (you know.... Game Day).

100%. You have put your finger on what I hate about modern sports coverage. I am busy and I want information about sports and analysis of sports in an easily digestible format. I don't want to see a bunch of former athletes laughing and knee-slapping and having a good time; I can go literally to any bar in the country and see the same thing. I don't understand why people seem to want to see that.

Having plenty of personality is good. Gameday in its prime was the perfect balance of insight, analysis, prediction, and fun. They all brought personality to college football "content" while keeping the focus on the actual football.

Now, they care less about the football and too much about the "fun," which isn't fun that really applies to the viewer.

Shit, the best, most insightful parts that still focus on the actual football are the bits where they go to Chris Falica for his picks against the spread, because he gives ACTUAL analysis and on-field reasoning for the picks he makes. He gives the best X's-and-O's on College Gameday, and he's on screen for a total of 3 minutes maybe.

The other part that provides the most analysis is Whitfield walking through the crowd while discussing QB's, but they've ruined even that unique perspective.

This is why I don't understand why ESPN's college football coverage can't be like their baseball coverage. ESPN's baseball coverage has been top notch and about baseball and not personalities or a hot take. If ESPN actually focused on the college football games instead of their dumb personalities it would be watchable.

Wish the college football side had analysts like Olney, Kurkijan, Ravech and the like. It would make it so enjoyable. Now it is unwatchable.

They have the analysts they need to make it an actual good football show again. Herbstreit is still one of the best out there, Fowler works well with Herbstreit, Pollack is good when they actually give him a chance to talk football, and their interviews with coaches are great when they aren't just playing to the crowd standing behind them.

The problem is that rather than reigning them in and producing a good show, the producer has become part of the show himself (which is ironic, because he provides good content while letting his talent run wild). Also, they continue to employ Desmond Howard.

1) Cord cutting

2) Paying way too much for NBA and Monday Night Football

3) Sportscenter has nothing to offer anymore. We all get highlights real time or whenever we want.

4) ESPN didn't stay in their lane. Tried mixing in politics and social issues with sports and alienated too many people. Donut shops don't do steaks, and steakhouses don't do donuts.

To the bolded: I agree to an extent. We can see highlights whenever we want. However there is still the simplicity and fluidity in which watching them on TV compared to on a computer, phone, or tablet. Being able to just throw Sportscenter on while mindlessly watching and catching up on the daily highlights was part of the greatness of it. I don't have to watch a 20 second ad. Store each highlight, search for the game, or even have a smart device around me to enjoy them. THAT is what made a highlight show about that day in sports so great.

You have to watch about 10 minutes of ads to watch a full SC. If I go online an watch highlights of every game that day and they all had 20 seconds of ads it wouldn't = 10 minutes

Two reasons I stopped watching a long time ago. 1. Too much advertisement and 2. They no longer got directly to the point and the scores. You had to wait and wait. Who runs their ticker? Was it just me or do they have a penchant for going to commercials right when the score(s) you were waiting for were about to come up?

I agree that it doesn't add up to the same, however with the SC format we used to have, you would have highlights after highlights after breakdowns after highlights then commercial. It was at least continuous where you can throw it on and watch them all without needing to scroll. Small? Yes, but still enjoyable to put it on the TV and I can scroll around on whatever else on my phone, computer, or tablet.

Agree that the format today sucks. It's not good for those of us that just want the highlights, breakdowns, and analysis. I would find myself waiting to see the highlights of a game, and BOOM breaking news or commercial. Really haven't helped themselves.

Article on si.com says employees were informed of their termination via telephone with HR "listening in". I get companies having to go through this mess in order to get back on track. Experienced it myself, but doing it via phone instead of face to face is as cold and careless as it gets.

No, the article says ONE employee was informed that way and it provides no other context. It's extremely common for certain employees to be located somewhere geographically different than their leadership team (Bristol, New York, Charlotte, Texas, Chicago, LA, etc). Also, talent don't work normal MTWRF schedules so not everyone is in the office on a random Wednesday.

Speaking of the Draft and ESPN, I gotta say that ESPN's draft coverage was way better than the NFL Network's.

NFL Network coverage was boring and monotone, and their interviews sucked. ESPN at least gets some personality from Gruden and Kiper.

Also, ESPN did a better job of making things clear as they happened. Even on commercial, you didn't feel like you were about to miss anything. NFL Network would just kind of cut out and the you wondered if you were going to see the pick or not (even though you know you will, their graphics weren't as helpful).

I watched NFLN only but I did notice, the meatchicken jack wagon is getting tired.... Mayock seemed super pissy last night, dude needed a Midol or some cranberry juice or something...

Kiper still has a > 4 hour erection over Myles Garrett. He's probably seeing his doctor right now.

Kiper is probably erect throughout the entire weekend.

Then he sees his own hair in the mirror and he avoids a trip to the doctor.

espn and "tv sports" has, like its "news" brethren morphed from "just the facts" (sports scores, real journalism, hard news) to the 24 hour on-air cycles having to sit thru all the opinions disguised as facts, yelling, and sophomoric chit chat and BS to get what you came for in the first place: news, scores, highlights.

is it any wonder no one can suffer watching any of this anymore and are cutting the cord and tuning out?

people are tuning out and going to the on demand, quiet solitude of the internet found inside their handhelds, on their specialized apps, and ipads/laptops to get their scores and news, and information--we are tired of being yelled at and preached to by the TV.

I have watched this station since inception and what has happened is inevitable when you run out of stuff to do. Polish Leppy hit the nail on the head. Back to tetherball championship from Laguna Beach and Australian rules Football. Maybe a little more love to my Irish could have given more Karma.

Watching that tape made me think ND currently has a lot of 1st rounders in their secondary. A lot of bad angles and missed tackles.
