I'm gonna do it. Even if it sucks, I can afford $5/mo and I want to support real journalism. I am so fucking disgusted by what "sports media" at large has become.

Will you keep us posted? If the coverage of Week 1 is sufficiently impressive to you I'll sign on.

Thinking about signing up for this. Wish they had some sort of free period for the first day or so so I could check it out before committing. Really like the idea of a premium sports journalism website without stupid videos or advertisements everywhere.

fyi...not sure if you are aware, but they are offering a 7 day trial now

They live in an insane bubble.

Yes, a lot of people don't like Hill/Smith because they're racist/sexist/whatever.

But the bigger issue is that the show isn't good... they talk about the "double standard" when people like SVP and Simmons it's because they're charismatic and funny not awkward.

I can name dozens of female television personalities and writers and entertainers that I like and think are talented. And Michael Smith is pretty good (B+ TV personality), and I love Bomani Jones so I probably would've liked that hypothetical 3 person show. But at some point you just have to admit that SC6 is bad because bad -- it's axiomatic. It's not bad because sexism/racism/excuse-du-jour.

Agreed. Every time I somehow have it on I can't help but think of how Michael Smith's talents are so underutilized there.

One day ESPN will realize that you can change the name from Sports Center to SC6 and change the format, but in sports fans minds, Sports Center (regardless of what time it airs) should always be about scores and highlights.

Just think of all the really good SC personalities that are no longer there... and then remind yourself that J. Hill still is. She is clueless and IMO drags an otherwise pretty solid M. Smith down.

Right. And SVP's late night show is great, because he does exactly that but puts his own twist on it in an interesting way. People want sports with charisma... the entire Sports Center model was built on personalities packaging sports highlights in an entertaining way. It was fun, and an escape from other shit. If you wanted news or pop culture you flipped to the news or MTV or whatever.

SC6 should be about previewing the upcoming slate of sports and rehashing what happened last night/during the day. People don't tune in to watch an awkward, boring person talk about sports-adjacent topics. Michael Smith absolutely carries her right now. Listen to this monologue:

That is just boring, bad television. It's nearly two minutes long, and you are bored 20 seconds in and don't care what she has to say. She is not charismatic. She is not entertaining. The end.

this is so true. After the temple game two weekends ago we went out to eat, and then drove home. on the couch by midnight. The only things on are special interest stories related to sports and tennis.

Not one show showing nothing but college football highlights. On Saturday at midnight of opening week.

Also:
1.) of all the things you could talk about, let's talk about LaVar Ball being a sexist, yay/nay? 2.) Interesting to me she chose to defend him from such labels.......

That's probably a good bet -- I'd argue that show needs to be reformatted. I can't stand watching most ESPN programming.

Fox pivoting to video yet letting her go is the weirdest move ever. I assume she has her own show right away.

This was also in the works months before any Jemele Hill related controversy.

I'm kinda surprised she wasn't poached a few years back. Katie's got a following of creepy guys that would probably switch channels for her

She is gorgeous but also her humor is hilarious. I loved garbage time and always wondered why FS1 didn't give it a PTI type of time slot.. They loved her enough she was all over Fox's Pitch, so to see her waste away was dumbfounding.. Hopefully ESPN gives her a good show and not just pair her on Highly Questionable

I thought Nolan had been hired by ESPN a while ago, and it was just a poorly-kept secret.

Must have had something in her contract with FS1 that required her to stay out of work for a certain period of time, which is why ESPN is now announcing it as "official."
