Holy smokes that was bad. But you have to laugh too.

Lax - sincere question. You really think Biden is still the best option for the nomination. While I think a Biden with his wits is a stronger candidate than Bernie, I think Bernie is stronger than a Biden without his wits. This isn't like an occasional gaffe. This is pretty much routine right now. All jokes aside, I'd be worried AF if I were the DNC.

I think Biden is a better nom than Bernie to beat Trump. I also really dislike Bernie's toxic base and some of the BS Bernie tolerated from his surrogates this cycle, so I wouldn't vote for him, period. I think the kind of antics you see from his supporters is exactly what's wrong with American discourse right now.

I think as long as Biden picks a good VP then people won't care about his gaffes as much because the "next (wo)man in" is sharp. Most assume he's going to be a one term guy. His mental faculties clearly aren't all there.... but he did perfectly fine in the last few debates which is how he was able to ride the wave of momentum while Bloomberg faltered.

People forget that the guy he is running against is a different kind of incoherent, and does shit like today railing against voting by mail..... when he voted by mail. And then he got totally tongue tied. It's not like Biden is running against Nikki Haley, Mitt Romney, or Ronald Reagan. He's running against a guy who doesn't speak in complete sentences and tweets covefe.

I agree Trump can stumble. But like you said, it's a different type of stumble. I think Trump will crush him in the debates, and that simply isn't going to be good on a national stage, for at minimum the IND and undecided crowd. I don't see Trump getting tongue tied on a debate stage. He's actually at his worst when trying to follow a script.

Do you see any way that the dems somehow pull a switcharoo on candidates? My buddy (who's dem and Trump hater) swears they're going to find a reason to make a change. I just don't see how they can do that. Only way is if Joe bows out for "health" reasons, and I just can't see him doing that.

Yup, it's actually quite easy for them to do that. If Biden gets the nom -- including getting through the convention with a "ticket" in place -- he can basically drop out at any time after that for any reason and the DNC can pick whoever the hell they want.

Do you see him doing it though, and who do you think would be the top candidates for selection?

It would be sneaky as shit for the dems to let Biden go through the debates, be a massive fail, then pull someone in from out of nowhere that doesn't have to go through any debates. I could totally see them trying that shit lol

Thats disgusting.

If that's the Dems plan then they deserve to lose. 'This is coming from a dude who wanted President Ted Cruz right now(he would've murdered HildaBeast). Dems apparently love the idea of fixing primary...disgusting.

Can you imagine the Bern bros fall out if that happened and they didn't pick Bernie.

Since then, they have rescheduled the primary for June and it seems that everyone has agreed to move on and run the primary on that date per normal protocols.

Wisconsin should have delayed in wake of the pandemic. If I lived in Wisconsin I would have skipped voting in the primary. Having said that, I think Bernie is pass the point of "No Return" and having it or delaying it won't affect the outcome.

Holy smokes that was bad. But you have to laugh too.

LMAO.......Hadn't heard that phrase in ages. That was bad anyway you want to shake it out. I would really like to know what Joe's handlers and confidants are privately thinking.

No one said it's actually "their plan", it's just the truth of nominating a new candidate post-convention. Republicans could do the same shit if their guy dropped out close to election day. There are fail safes to allow the committee to put someone new forward if their nominated person dies or drops out for any reason.

Wow, Bernie drops out of the race.

It was probably that boost Biden got in Wisconsin.

Hmm. I’ll have to look up his reasoning. I agree w/ you & YJ. The Democratic Party will approach Biden and tell him to be a good soldier and step down for health reasons while assuring him that his legacy will be as a historical hero for the sake of the country. I could even see them getting Obama to deliver a tearful ode to his former VP as a cherry on top and to romanticize the party base by seeing their past leader at the lectern.

Then it’s a matter of what happens in the back room deals. You know Hillary will want to be in the mix but surely the Party has seen she’s far too toxic & divisive. Gotta think Cuomo & Newsome would throw in. My theory is it has to be from one of the coastal elite states that are huge in population in that it gives them an idea of their large scale governance in times of chaos.

Yes...the above is conspiratorial but most of us have nothing but time on our hands and I’m willing to entertain other scenarios...especially from the Left leaning folks on here....and then bet accordingly. We could use one of our mathematicians or engineers on here to draw up odds of the top 3 scenarios that garner the most votes by the entire board as most likely.

It’s not like we can gamble on replays of classic ND games. LOL

If I was rich I would pay for a clinical study on people like this. Or that girl who was yelling at the sky when Trump got elected. It's a form of mental illness, I know it.

Agreed. I used to laugh at Dr. Savage with his firm views on the far left and mental illness and such. I’ve also noted how Trump has done one constructive thing, brought the reality of the far left into full view... it’s been interesting.

I think the illness is the same or very similar to whatever gets people in the South to donate tons of money to TV preachers and stuff. It's all totally insane.

Speaking of Cuomo, in his daily coronavirus briefing earlier today he announced that the state (meaning of course NY) would be giving those receiving unemployment an additional $600 per week. Funny that he did not mention that this money is coming from the federal government and was a Trump proposal. Must have slipped his mind.

Yup. Misplaced religious impulses. The revolutionary left directs them into politics, while much of the religious right is vulnerable to televangelist grifters. Welcome to America.

He's done. Now Biden gets to pick the minority woman most qualified to be VP.

These are the sounds of your people.

Why couldn’t he have done that one day sooner instead of forcing all his supporters & other voters to risk their lives to go vote in person. He should be held accountable for every person who went to vote and passes away since they would not have been at risk had he pulled the plug one day earlier.

It's nothing unique to the left. It just manifests itself in different ways.

The reason the psychosis on the left seems to get more prevalent each day is the positive feedback loops in our education systems and social media that encourage this kind of behavior instead of curbing it. The Coddling of the American Mind should be required reading for every US Citizen.

This is the same reason Bernie got smoked this election cycle and couldn't grow past his ~30% base even after other candidates dropped out. He got less votes and worse percentages than last time against Clinton when he was a virtual unknown. Why? Because his surrogates and his supporters pissed off everyone with their morally superior drivel and caustic antics... whereas Biden went out of his way to not piss off anyone. Many people inside the "Berniesphere" will never understand how they're perceived by the 85% of America that isn't. I have never seen a group go out of their way to alienate people how they did, and it was incredibly ironic to see them go all shocked Pikachu when Buttigieg and Warren supporters didn't jump on their bandwagon.

Lax, what are your thoughts on bridging the two "sides" of the party together? Do you think the onus is on Biden to extend the olive branch to Bernie faction, or for Bernie to tell his supporters to get in line?

Just the preamble. Several that dropped out earlier used the term "suspending their campaign" and they are now just after thoughts. Gathering delegates is probably something of a power play to get some of his agenda included with Biden or his replacement once Joe has been confirmed as a risk by the DNC. Or possibly keeping them for now in case Biden is strong armed to drop out. Then he has an advantage over anyone else the DNC wants to run.

I think Biden has already done it. I think there is a large portion of Democrats that aren't really Democrats and are unlikely to vote for Biden... these people are Socialists or Communists who see Biden as a corporatist. That's fine and that's their prerogative, but the worst thing Biden could do right now is capitulate to people who aren't going to vote for him anyways at the risk of pissing off moderates and Republicans he has a chance to win over.

I don't know if there are good polling numbers on it somewhere, but I think it really depends on what kind of conservative or Republican people are. Most of my friends from ND are Republican/conservative. None of them would vote for Bernie and said as much, and I think most of them are going to vote for Biden. Trump has broad appeal to a lot of different demographics, but the young upper-middle-class or upper-class suburban dad group he doesn't do great with.

My parents also voted in a democratic primary for the first time in their lives this year and do not plan to vote for Trump. I think there are a lot of center-right people as well as #NeverTrump conservatives that will cross over as long as Biden doesn't try to run to the left to appease the Berniesphere. At least that's how I interpret anecdotes in my own life.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything that would give some insight. I'm also wondering how this pandemic will effect the election. If the economy responds pretty quickly, Trump is probably getting reelected. If it doesn't, it may cost him.
