Saw this this morning. I didnt realize my state was 2nd/3rd worst from June on for so long. Any clear takeaways from this?

Not sure if qualifies as a clear takeaway, but West Coast and Northeast got whacked in the beginning of the pandemic and now it's starting to hit the middle of the country. Hopefully we stay below each state's healthcare capacity.

States with runway from watching NY and CA, just did not learn from what happened in those states.

Good luck. We’re having an uptick by me. Three guys at work are currently out with it. All are doing fine (relatively young and healthy). Although one of the guy’s grandfather passed away from it recently. He was elderly and had health problems. Pretty typical.

Thank you. If I have it, I will be number 12 at work since this whole thing started. I will know in a couple of hours. Fever went up to 101.2 last night.

Report from my retirement community indicates to me that people are getting sloppier about this and cases are starting to crack our "bubble." We have had just this last week three persons who come in as care givers test positive, plus three residents test positive. None of these are yet involved with the general residents but with the assisted care and memory care areas. I also witnessed several (10) outside persons traveling in four separate cars, decide to set up a no mask, no distancing hot dog grilling picnic for a resident, who is [probably] not the type to complain to them about this. So if any of those outsiders had COVID, she was in danger and can then pass it on to any of us.

I mention these things to indicate that I believe them to be another data point in the American psyche which looks for any excuse to take the easy and pleasurable road rather than the right one. I've decided to up my game by wearing my mask more even in the allegedly safe places, but it sucks that I have to do that when everyone just behaving morally and maturely would not make the restrictions quite as draconian.

Good luck.

The wife and I had tests a couple of months back and tested negative. I am having out-patient surgery on Friday and had to get tested yesterday. The first time they gave me the swab and asked to me to put it up my nose to the indicator on the swab. This time the healthcare provider did it and she used a swab much longer. Ouch! The positive is my left nostril has much better air flow now!

A friend blasted a stat that US has 2x to 5x more people in nursing home/long term care facilities than countries of Europe.

Best to disregard the results of any self-collection test done that is not done like this:

nasal-swab.jpg

Nasopharyngeal swab/Oropharyngeal (Throat) swab

The degree of false negatives should an individual briefly swabs their anterior nares is great.

For initial diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2, CDC recommends collecting and testing an upper respiratory specimen. Please contact the testing laboratory to confirm accepted specimen types. The following are acceptable specimens depending on the authorized SARS-CoV-2 viral test used:

- A nasopharyngeal (NP) specimen collected by trained healthcare personnel; or
- An oropharyngeal (OP) specimen collected by trained healthcare personnel; or
- A nasal mid-turbinate swab collected by trained healthcare personnel or by a supervised onsite self-collection (using a flocked tapered swab); or
- An anterior nares (nasal swab) specimen collected by trained healthcare personnel or by supervised home or onsite self-collection (using a flocked or spun polyester swab); or
- Nasopharyngeal wash/aspirate or nasal wash/aspirate (NW) specimen collected by trained healthcare personnel.
- A saliva specimen collected by supervised self-collection.

My dad tested positive, and a girl I was next to at the bar last weekend both tested positive so I imagine it's very likely that I either have it now or am a superhuman who is immune after generations of fortunate breeding from all each corner of the Holy Roman Empire.

I really appreciate all of the well wishes, guys! It's strange. I feel fine during the day. At night though, my fever shoots up to over 101.2 from 8pm to midnight. Then it breaks quickly and I can't get to sleep. Took NyQuil twice last night and that finally did it.

Nyquil is the greatest. Just knocks you the f**k out until you feel better. It's my go to for most things. You'll be back to normal in no time.

Hang in there and get well soon. Nyquil is some good stuff.
