Best tidbit from the Irish Illustrated pod today was Tim O’Malley recounting what his neighbor told him. His neighbor was watching the ND game w/ his friend who happens to be deaf. Since the friend is such a great lip reader he translated what Etienne was saying to his coach: “they’re (ND) just hitting too hard”.

NOTE: or something to that effect...I’m going by memory but it was a great insight.

Could have also meant something along the lines of hitting the gaps too hard so Etienne couldn't find any running lanes.

Just finished a rewatch. What a game. How long will they be showing that Book to Davis sequence and that Hayes sack on highlight reels? I hope forever.

From the others reaction I got the impression it was the physicality b/c they had just mentioned how Clemson had multiple players throughout the game leave the field after getting banged up.

Dabo discussed injuries from the game in his PC yesterday

We lost a bunch of people," Swinney said. "It was a crazy, crazy thing. ... A lot of guys that are sore. Had a couple of concussions. Hopefully this week will allow us to really nurse some of these guys back to good health. Probably the worst (injury) was Ladson," Swinney said. "He hurt his foot. He is probably going to be out for a couple of weeks.

Also safeties Lannden Zanders and Nolan Turner, cornerbacks Sheridan Jones and Andrew Booth, defensive end Justin Mascoll, defensive tackle Bryan Bresee, and offensive guard Matt Bockhorst were all sidelined with various injuries.

All of their injuries does beg the question...is there a chance they get beat again before Charlotte?

I apologize if this has been discussed but the move to using the huddle with the TE's running in the plays was genius. Have to give credit to the staff to going back to the "old school" approach to avoid having signals stolen.

What would be super amusing, is if ND loses to Clemson in a competitive title game. Makes it to the playoff, and to play them for a 3rd time lol

It's possible.

Yes!! Amazing tidbit.

ND beat Clemson physically on the OL and DL. How great is it to be able to say that.

The young lads played their hearts out. Book earned redemption. Kelly won his big game...though a special thanks goes to the assistant who whispered to Kelly that it would be best to decline the holding call with 2 minutes left in the game. What I enjoyed most was the lads' champion like fortitude. Yet something was missing.

I remember the glorious 93 FSU game and the cursed painful BC game. College football was different pre-playoffs. Teams played as though there was no tomorrow. Every game was a playoff game. There was no tip toeing to the sidelines. Every play, every yard, and every turnover mattered.

Saturday, Clemson came and played hard but in my mind with an understanding that there is a tomorrow. I hope we see them again and remove all doubt.

I think you mean the 2002 FSU & BC games. There was nothing glorious about the 2003 FSU game unless you’re a Noles fan. They came into South Bend and embarrassed us.

lol, yeah the FSU game of the century was 93. November 6th, I think. Glorious game.

I think he was speaking from personal memory of the 2002 season when ND went down to Tallahassee as a big underdog before knocking off FSU. The following week, ND had to roll w/ back up walk-on QB Pat Dillingham. The hope was that he could manage the offense which the Irish D dominated the BC defense. The D held up but poor Pat turned the ball over (can’t remember if it fell out of his hand as a fumble or his arm got hit for an interception) which was picked up by BC defender and returned for a TD. That ended up being the difference in the score and the end of ND’s surprising “Return to Glory”.

Great point! That assistant was Mike Elston who ran up to BK after he told refs they would accept the penalty & told Kelly to decline it. Luckily, BK changed his response to ref and they declined it. Not doing so may have saved the game b/c it would’ve given Clemson one additional play to run clock making that 91 yd drive less likely

"They are so good up front," an ACC defensive coordinator said. "They look like a bunch of 35-year-old men out there. They're old. You can't throw anything new at them. They've seen it all, they've played so many snaps. You can't try to do some funky s--- to try to catch them off guard."

Lol here is what an ACC assistant had to say about ND's line per an espn article about the top teams.

AH, my favorite Dancing Grizzlies are now getting their just dues not only by the outside world, but by a whole IE thread response --- never thought I'd see that.

Way back, post-Duke, I talked about how roughassed we are and that we hurt people (really doing damage to what was up to becoming a great Duke DLine and the strength of their team.) Ruined their season in my opinion.

We had guys poo-poo-ing that idea. We are a REAL problem for people facing our lines. DLine included, but especially the Five Fingers in the Fist of Doom.

If you don't agree, well, here's one tall upright "Patterson" for you.

That BC game was my first ND game. They wore the green jerseys for it.

Not sure if it's been discussed, but it seems like we have FINALLY got our receiving situation figured out. Rolling out in 12 personnel seems to be our best bet at the moment, maybe 11 or 02 Personnel if Lenzy ever gets fully healthy.

I'm a bit worried about trying to work Lenzy and Austin in at this point if either gets healthy. It seems like our inexperienced WR group is finally hitting their stride and stepping up to the plate. It took half a season to get their feet underneath them and build a rapport with Ian and we're finally seeing the dividends of that. What if Austin comes back and is too rusty? I don't think I want to sit Davis in favor of Lenzy either, Davis helped get us to overtime Saturday, he stepped up big when the moment counted.

I thought Austin is done for the year? And that's a good point about Lenzy. Hopefully the positive side of it is true, where there's things we can do with Lenzy that we haven't shown on film yet come ACCCG and Playoffs time

IDK. I'm still no where near thinking our WR group is settled or dynamic. It just didn't look "easy" at all lol. There were certainly flashes at times. AD wouldn't sit for Austin or Lenzy though. Both are listed as outside, while AD is inside. I still don't see much separation on a consistent basis. Everyone did step up though when needed last weekend, just not sure if it's something we can expect to replicate.
