Timing is everything. Momentum is a big thing in todays game on and off the field.
But on Coach Diaco, I can tell you that if you and others knew the new deal he recently received from ND at BK's request, with Swarbrick's and Fr. Jenkins' blessing, I don't think you'd push the above argument/suggestion regarding his actions or intent. To the contrary, he feels he owes ND something even bigger than heretofore and that ND has made it very difficult now for him to leave other than for a (from him) "head job at a major program that no one could turn down." Obviously, things can change in life with situations, but he hasn't acted nor spoken, nor frankly even "emoted" to anyone close to him, as if he were a man going through the motions and with a change agenda. To the contrary.

AWESOME!
Would a major new deal for Kelly even be announced at ND? I may be way off base, but other than Weis, it seems like they keep it quiet at times.
Given the uncertainty after January's dalliance with the Eagles, I'd think they would want to make news of an extension as public as possible.
I agree with that. Unless they are planning on him leaving, what is the problem then? If they are too cheap to keep him, I'm done with ND.
Question: I know we are all high on Diaco and I have seen talks about Martin (given enough time) to both possibly take over after BK. Has anyone ever thought about Alford? I always wondered in the back of my mind why he has always recruited the way he has and stuck around like he has.
Maybe I missed something along the lines but from what I know, which isn't a lot, he is big on supporting a recruit to make life decisions, says even if he wasn't at ND it would still be a great life decision and he stayed after the BK takeover. Obviously he is a great coach and recruiter, but is it possible he is putting in his time at ND to be the next man in line?
I figured this would be a good thread to ask. Only outside jobs I heard rumor of was his Alma of CO State. (Which was on here)
I doubt anyone seriously has a shot except maybe Martin at being the next guy in line. At least, I hope not. It's been said before but deserves repeating, ND is not the place for a 1st time head coach. BK is succeeding because he's the first person we hired since Lou that matched the classic mold of a proven commodity. He had years of experience running his own program and system and was able to show on every stage that it worked as reliably as clockwork. Even then he had to learn a few things when he got here. It's too big of a job, with too much scrutiny to give to a 1st time head coach for the sake of momentum or a single recruiting class.
If BK leaves I predict we'd try to keep Martin (though I doubt we'd get him since we only landed him because of BK) and Longo (BK would likely take him with him), maybe Alford if the new coach thought there was a place on his staff for him.
I understand that. Which is what triggered my thinking of Alford being around for so long. If BK ever left, I am sure we will all **** our pants at the next move!
Thanks Grey....

I assure you sir, I would be shitting my pants quite spectacularly if BK announced he was heading somewhere else. There's no one on the job market on his level right now IMO. If Louisville is able to go to another BCS bowl and win next year I'd throw all my money at Strong.
The pickings are slim, that's for sure. My short list of current college FB head coaches that I'd go after would be (in no particular order): Chris Petersen, Charlie Strong, Bill O'Brien and Kevin Sumlin. I'd leave Nick Saban and David Shaw a voicemail, but I wouldn't expect them to call me back.
Charlie Strong would get serious consideration, as he's had Lou Holtz in his corner for a long time. I don't see Kevin Sumlin leaving A&M anytime soon unless the NFL came calling. He has it perfect right now in that he has a strong up-incoming program in the SEC with a excellent recruiting base. If they can get back to their Wrecking crew days, I can see them overtaking Alabama as tops in the SEC. As good as Stanford has been the last few years, I don't know that they can get any better, so he may consider a change if ND came calling. A dark horse candidate could be James Franklin at Vanderbilt. Kliff Kingsbury would be a guy to keep tabs on and see how he does at Texas Tech.

The staff continuity Kelly has maintained (so far) is a huge advantage that gets little discussed. Also helps in recruiting. Another reason why one very much hopes that contracts have been resolved.
I have heard quite a bit about this. And Jack Swarbrick seemed to confirm what I have heard.
A) Jack and Brian have been working diligently to find the money to pay all of the assistants well, and assure them of competitive packages to stay.
B) Jack, Brian, and the administration have a development program which they have put in place to develop each assistant to maximize their coaching potential, whether that be becoming a head coach or a more capable assistant. This includes more responsibilities, education and enrichment.
C) The 'snag' for the Kelly contract, has been getting the assistants taken care of first.
D) The power of this implicit camaraderie among the staff is already paying team dividends.
