Has anyone ever considered the user name Brian Kelly and posted like Brian Kelly would, say during the 2011 USF game? It would be pretty funny to hear that Brian Kelly's responses to the posts in the ND Oversold on Brian Kelly thread. Just kind of thinking out loud.
For the sake of heading off some of the questions: Irishfan33 was given the boot because he misrepresented his position with respect to the staff and team.
Title2014 has been banned before (by me). He used to do things where he was just begging to be banned. I actually ignored a lot of it but enough was enough, as he would keep at it even when asked to cool it. I know he can't stand me LOL.
So there is precedent there kuenja...I don't know what the circumstances were but I'm sure the mods had good reasoning, given his history.
Yeah, but who can?.
Thanks for the explanation. But when it's not an apparent infraction (I get that everyone used discretion differently, but a real obvious post I'm saying) I wish that there would be a chance for explanation from the OP.
I did not enjoy my week off. I tried to talk ND with my ONE friend who claims to be an Irish fan, but he didn't even know who our backup QB was, SMH.

2) That was not 'racist', nor am I a racist. I've been on this site for almost 3 years. If I were racist, it would have shown by now. That post, as dumb as it was to post without italics, was a stereotype. There is a BIG difference between being a racist and acting on a stereotype and it's reckless to throw out the racism label when it's in fact a stereotype.
Again, I've been on this site for 3 years. Never have I acted or posted with even a hint of racism. I made a dumb post that is missing italics, and all of a sudden within 2 minutes I receive a PM saying 'banned' coming back: 'never' with no chance to explain or edit?
What happened to infractions, or asking me through PM or on the thread, what I was talking about? A lifetime ban over something that might be interpreted incorrectly is a hefty punishment, and when there are a half dozen or so mods, there's multiple opportunities for different point of views.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) but Title2014 was given a lifetime ban from IrishEnvy because a mod mistakenly thought that he was asking to be banned, when in fact he was asking 'kanye west' to be banned for telling another poster that he should have been aborted. Now Title2014 is banned for life and it was a misinterpretation (again, unless something happened that I missed).
That's the problem IMO with the current system of banning. I think you guys (when the sin is not apparent) should discuss it before it's too late.
A poster's history, effect or potential effect on the board, and the nature of a reported post are definitely all things we consider in discussing potential bans and their length. Further, almost every ban occurs after several of the moderators discuss the potential ban and come to some sort of agreement on course of action.
That is the best way I believe to do it, and I think the other mods agree with me. May not always be popular, but we always try to do what is in the best interest of the board.
In the absence of italics or any sort of context, it was a single sentence that assumed an arguably harmful racial stereotype. Whether or not that qualifies as "racist" is besides the point, because several people found it offensive and reported it as such.
LAX banned you immediately, but consulted with the rest of the mods afterward, and everyone agreed that a week off was appropriate given your past infractions and the tenor of the board following the Pitt loss. We don't ban people lightly, and we usually seek out consensus among the mods before doing anything.
The moderating interface that's most convenient for us to use has a field for inputting "Ban Expiration", but regardless of what we put there, it seems to be defaulting to "Never". There's a less convenient interface that apparently doesn't have this problem, which we will be using in the future.
Go check his post history. He was drunk and posting like a confrontational as$hole during and after the Pitt game. Two separate mods independently and simultaneously attempted to give him 24 hours off. As far as I know, he's free to return at this point.
We almost always do. In your case, your week off was affirmed by the mods online immediately after it was imposed.
So we banned Irish33, or whatever his name was, because he lied about being close to the team...but had good info, provided by someone he actually knows, close to the team?
WTF? Who cares!! If he's got some good info, why ban him?
(I'm assuming that he wasn't just spitting lies when it came to his substance)

According to some very reliable sources, he has a "connection" to a single player on the team, but he lied about being a professional talent scout, and lots of other stuff. He's been wrong about a lot of stuff too, which, in retrospect, makes sense since he was apparently making most of it up.
We banned him because he was pretending to an insider status he doesn't have, and people were giving his comments undeserved weight.
Drinking and game day threads do not go together!
Fair enough. I was just wondering as people, at the time, were really into his stuff and it seemed more a personal issue.

There in lies the issue, and why he had to be banned. If he has a reputation as an actual insider with legit info as a ND source and a talent scout, and he is not actually what he seems, inaccurate posts by him will be taken as gospel. Obviously that would cause major (unneeded) issues.
Did Jason fly you out to North Carolina to investigate him? Did you sit in your '89 Caprice Classic tailing him all day? What kind of booze did you put in your flask for your plaid blazer? Did the hookers Lax got for you at your pay-by-the-hour motel enjoy the magic fingers? How much of the $1,500 Irish33 tried to bribe you with, in order not to tell Jason, do you have left?

"You'd really dig my work."
All credit for the investigation goes to LAX and TP.
